Will Bolton, The Telegraph, February 20, 2026
An Afghan national accused of murdering a dog walker in a knife attack may never be fit to stand trial, a court heard.
Safi Dawood allegedly stabbed three people, including his former landlord, on a residential street in Uxbridge, west London on Oct 27.
The 22-year-old appeared via video link from Broadmoor Hospital in Berkshire for a 15-minute hearing at Southwark Crown Court. He has been charged with one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon.
Prosecutor Deanna Heer KC told the court that Dawood had been assessed by a psychiatrist, who concluded he was not currently “fit to plead or stand trial”.

Dawood spoke to confirm his name with the aid of a Pashto translator. He was not asked to enter any pleas and the case was adjourned until the next hearing on April 10.
He is accused of fatally stabbing Wayne Broadhurst, 49, a binman who was walking his dog at the time, during the assault.

The Home Office has confirmed Dawood entered the UK clandestinely via lorry in 2020. He was granted asylum and leave to remain in 2022.
