It’s Time to Choose

Ichabod Thornton, American Renaissance, November 2, 2026

You can spend hours with “conservative” articles, podcasts, conferences, and debates, and it all boils down to the same blunt truth: this is about race. The real solution is to become pro-white. Full stop. We have to stop hiding behind soft language, like “the effects of socialism,” “Third World culture,” “Islam,” or “non-Western migrants.” The words that need to be used are “white” and “non-white.” Anything less just keeps the conversation stuck in the same rut, while demographic reality keeps moving.

Unless you’ve completely tuned out social media and cable news, you’ve watched France burn. Foreigners living in France have been blockading schools, looting stores, and fighting police all over the country. The media mostly call it anger about crowded classrooms, missing teachers, and run-down buildings, and now the cost of living [1][2][3]. France is at a real turning point, but nobody wants to use the R-word: race. Marine Le Pen, the National Rally candidate, has a good chance of being elected president next year. What does she do? Dig deeper into civic nationalism.

Just the other day, she answered a journalist’s question about poll results showing that almost half of French Muslims would think about leaving if she won by saying that they’re wrong: “It is their country, they are French” [4]. She added that Islam fits with the Republic, but anyone trying to bring in Sharia will have to deal with her, and regular Muslims have nothing to worry about [5][6]. Translation: You don’t have to be white to be French.

The excuses and deliberate blindness on this topic are exhausting. It’s the never-ending cycle of white people being unable to state the obvious. The first step in fixing anything is identifying the problem. Civic nationalism cannot solve a problem it refuses to identify. And hardly anyone truly believes in it.

Explicit racial identity is where this conversation must go. Civic nationalism gives an illusion of progress but stops short of stating the solution. And yet it faces the same, fierce opposition as white nationalism. Take basic civ-nat arguments: “I’m just against mass immigration,” “I want only immigrants who speak our language,” “some cultures are incompatible.” Even this gets liberals and non-whites complaining about “dog whistles.” Everyone knows those lines are polite stand-ins for race. Red flags go up the moment talk turns to “preserving culture” and “protecting heritage and values.” It’s obviously not logical to stop at “culture” and “values” or “assimilation” because everyone knows the problem boils down to race, but whites are afraid to say so out loud — so far. Non-whites and liberals are terrified of whites gaining any semblance of racial consciousness, and they bully anyone who even talks about “culture” or “assimilation.”

There was a perfect example of this almost a year ago. Alec Penstone, a 100-year-old World War II veteran, was brought onto the Good Morning Britain show on November 9, Remembrance Sunday. That is the day Britain remembers its war dead. The TV hosts were Kate Garraway, a British woman, and Adil Ray, who is non-white. You can almost picture what the producers were hoping for: a warm speech about how proud he was of the diverse, multilingual Britain of today. This was what his generation truly fought for.

Instead, when they asked what the day meant to him, he looked straight at them and said the sacrifice “wasn’t worth the result of what it is now.” He added that the country is “a darn sight worse than when I fought for it.” Kate tried to soft-pedal it with gratitude and reassurance. Adil pressed him: “What do you mean by that?” Alec didn’t spell it out any further. He didn’t have to. Everyone on that set, and everyone watching, understood what the problem was and what he was getting at but dared not say [19]. We all know the problem, but most of us are too afraid to name it. Alec Penstone, poor man, probably could not bring himself to say what he truly felt to a non-white.

Mainstream voices and news outlets have gradually started to bring up the demographic change in white countries. Many reluctantly discuss it because it can’t be ignored. They point out the huge shifts in just a few decades — cities that used to be mostly European turning minority-white in one generation, birth rates among the majority crashing, immigration numbers that make earlier waves look small. Most people now, even grudgingly, admit there’s a problem. But almost none will name the real problem or the real fix. Analysis always stops at culture and assimilation. It never gets to race. The only answers are: believe harder in the Constitution, worship the “proposition nation,” share our values.

Megyn Kelly’s outburst on Haitians in Ohio is a good example:

Go home. Get out. We know our country’s better than yours. That’s because we filled it with our work ethic and our culture and our values. You being here only dilutes it for us, those who built it and live it. And half of you people, more than half, you won’t assimilate. We don’t want you. We don’t care if you’re offended. Get out. Go home. [8][9][10]

This was Miss Kelly’s infamous “racist” rant, but she never mentioned race at all. She was talking about Haitians, not Jamaicans or Nigerians. By her telling, America works because of culture and character. Race doesn’t matter.

We’ve watched this for years. Conservatives realize the heat is being turned up and they have to say something. They’ll worry about immigration, demographic change, and the fading of American culture, but they draw a hard line at race [11][12][13][14]. Off camera, away from reporters, they probably know what’s going on, but they’re too cautious to say so publicly. To be fair, their fears are not unfounded. They likely know what would happen — that saying it out loud would mean no more invitations to fancy parties, no more status, no more platform. Those costs are real. Most people pick short-term comfort and popularity over hard truth.

I used to see the same thing every day working as a medical scribe, recording conversations between patients and doctors. Patients would show up with obvious, self-made problems: bad diabetes, heart disease, serious obesity. A clear example would be diabetics, whose condition had gotten so bad they had toes amputated. The doctor spells out the problem, explains the consequences, and tells the patient what he must do: strict diet, exercise, meds, permanent lifestyle change. The patient nods. He has heard every word; it’s a lecture he has heard many times before.

The problem is clear and so is the fix. But nothing changes because the patient does not have enough strength of will to do what everyone knows must be done. He loves sweets. Exercise feels impossible after work. Low-carb food tastes awful. He’ll get to it “later.” The consequences pile up: more amputations, peripheral neuropathy, blindness, and then — death.

White countries are like this diabetic. Native births are well below replacement [15][16], while non-whites pour in [17][18]. Cities, schools, and the voting population keep shifting. People see the data. Plenty of them will talk about cultural friction and political fallout. But as soon as the conversation turns to whether whites have the right to remain the majority in the places they built, the language changes and the excuses start piling up. Anything necessary to stay a majority would be “racist.” Chinese don’t riot. Look at all the smart Indians in the tech business. If whites are gone it won’t matter, anyway. We’ll still have the flag and the Constitution.

Something happened a few months ago that really drove this home for me. I was on the street in Seattle, near the famous Pike Place Market. The soccer World Cup was playing on a huge screen on a barge. The streets were packed with people in red, white, and blue, waving flags and wearing patriotic gear. Everyone cheered the national anthem, and chanted “USA!” every time the American team scored.

But when I looked around, almost the whole crowd was Indian, Somali, or Hispanic, with maybe a few white tourists. I felt like I was staring straight at what “civic nationalism” looks like. The American flags were waving. The anthem was loud. But this wasn’t America. I was the minority, I was a remnant, a dying breed of conquered people. These were foreigners, and no amount of red, white, and blue and “USA” could hide that.

I left the city feeling sick. I stopped in a small place about an hour from Seattle. It was a different world, a quiet little Victorian-looking town, mostly white families, speaking English, strangers saying “Hi” and being friendly. The streets were clean, quiet and orderly. They could have flown a pineapple flag, with some guy playing “Old MacDonald” on a Kazoo and I would have felt more patriotic and at home than standing next to a sea of brown people wearing red, white, and blue.

It just clicked. My whole politics came down to one thing: whatever keeps this kind of place alive and protected. If any party promised to protect this as its number-one priority, I would take it without hesitation. Their other policies wouldn’t matter. The name wouldn’t matter. I knew this was what I wanted to protect, and my politics are whatever ensures that towns, nations, and white people like this are safe and endure.

France without French won’t be France. England without the English won’t be England. America without whites won’t be America. The solution is also simple, though it’s not easy or popular: Either whites decide to put their racial interests first or they lose their countries and everything they love.
