Man Falsely Accused of Rape by Sharpton: Advertisers Must Drop Support

Steven Pagones, Truth Revolt, October 11, 2013

Steven Pagones is a former Assistant District Attorney in the State of New York. He became the victim of Al Sharpton’s defamatory smear campaign to label him a rapist of 15-year-old black girl Tawana Brawley in 1987. Now he speaks out at Truth Revolt. To help stop advertiser support for Sharpton, sign our petition:

In November of 1987, 15-year-old African-American girl Tawana Brawley went missing. When she was found, it is alleged that she began telling people that she had been approached, kidnapped, raped, sodomized, and her body scrawled on with human feces by individuals whom she supposedly described as resembling white police officers. Law enforcement officials began working with her, but she soon enlisted the efforts of attorneys Alton Maddox, Vernon Mason, and a then-obscure supposed civil rights leader named Al Sharpton.

Soon thereafter, all cooperation between the Brawley camp and law enforcement was cut off.

I remember very clearly the day I was first accused of being involved in the kidnaping and rape of Tawana Brawley. I was preparing to attend a Christening on a Sunday when my phone rang. I picked up the phone, and the person asked if I was Steve Pagones; it was a media member inquiring about team Brawley’s allegations about me. I didn’t know what he was talking about. Then he dropped the bombshell: the Brawley team had said I was responsible for raping Brawley. I stammered, disbelieving, “That’s absurd. There’s not a shred of truth to it.” For the next 24 hours, my phone didn’t stop ringing. I was on the front page of every major newspaper in the state, and many across the country. It was simply unbelievable that the allegations had been made–and that the Brawley team made them without any evidence or support whatsoever. As soon as his charges hit the media, I had to hire around-the-clock security. I received death threats on the phone, in the mail. I had to hire armed guards for my family, for my property. My whole life was turned upside down.

{snip} Eventually, a grand jury found not only that I hadn’t had anything to do with whatever happened to Brawley, but that the entire story was a hoax.

{snip} Sharpton’s decision to spew hatred and outrageous lies about me and about law enforcement was a crucial one–I realized there was no stopping him but by suing him. I had two goals: holding Sharpton accountable, and clearing the record. So I brought a defamation suit against Sharpton, as well as Maddox and Mason. It took almost ten years to get them into court; they did everything they could to delay, to fight, to exhaust me. When we did go to court in 1997, a trial that should have taken a month at the most ended up taking eight. A judgment was rendered, and I was legally vindicated.

But Sharpton was never really held accountable for what he did. You can watch him every night on MSNBC. He visits President Obama at the White House. Matt Lauer interviews him on NBC’s Today Show. And advertisers pay his salary.

{snip}

And I truly do not understand those companies that choose to advertise with Sharpton. I would like to think that when an advertiser spends money, it wants to be involved with a person who has a history of integrity, who has a history of telling the truth. Sharpton doesn’t represent any of those ideas. How can any type of commercial advertiser be comfortable with having Al Sharpton as a spokesperson? While it is true that Sharpton has on occasion served a legitimate purpose in representing individuals who may have been harmed, that should not allow him to get away with the statements he has made about me and the damage he has caused to others; the media and advertisers should not be allowed to rehabilitate Sharpton without him providing any honesty and accountability. I have a hard time viewing Al Sharpton as a civil rights activist. I view Al Sharpton as being nothing more than an opportunist and a race-baiter.

Whenever I hear wishful-thinking white people say that things might be just about to change for the better, I think of certain cases, one of them being the Sharpton-Brawley race hoax and the attempted (and partially successful) lynching of Mr. Pagones.

If there were any real racial consciousness among white Americans, that case alone would have crippled the race merchants for good. But no. They’re louder, bolder, and stronger now by far than they were way back in 1987.

There’s no bringing to consciousness people who are not unconscious but DEAD.

    • 1stworlder

If they got their media from the lamestream they didn’t know it was a hoax, the coverage just stopped. I wouldn’t know the duke lacrosse hoax was a hoax if I didn’t look at these sites

      • [Guest]

I agree that the media is an enemy, but I still don’t see that as an excuse. White Americans KNOW that blacks are dysfunctional but almost none of us will say it openly or act upon what we know.

What is wrong with white people?

    • Basketeddie

Kind of like muslims …. louder, bolder and stronger now by far then they were on 9/11.

      • [Guest]

True. I’ve often commented that 9/11 was the greatest possible public-relations coup for the Muhammadans. I hadn’t even heard the phrase “Religion of Peace” until after the atrocities of that day.

Today’s Americans are perverse, and I see no good end in sight.

  • Pagones was the prime victim of Sharpton’s evil. I’ll yield to him all the live long day on this matter.

But there is a certain benefit for our cause in having a black extremist like Sharpton on TV every night.

    • QuinnTheEskimo9

what benefit might that be? Because I can’t come up with one.

      • Letting them expose themselves for what they are.

When our enemies are making fools of themselves, we should get out of the way and let them.

        • FransSusan

It doesn’t matter to liberal whites what they do. If they’re black they can do no wrong. It’s the truth. I have DWL friends and they make excuses for idiot blacks every time.

  • Whitetrashgang

The funny thing is Sharpton is never on the right side,I mean what are the odds? You would think he could get one legitimate case in 30 years.

    • Erasmus

Good point. From there we can extract a rule of thumb: If $harpton supports it, the right thing to do is oppose it.

THIS is how Sharkton got his “Planet of the Apes” hairstyle:

      • Brian

I saw a woman at the grocery store yesterday who looked like this. Well, her mustache was a little thinner. They say not to shop for food when hungry; I wasn’t after seeing her.

      • Garrett Brown

        Sharpton has aids? Lol.

      • Chasmania

Imagine your daughter bringing something looking like that to your home.

    • Some folks are dead-reliable as negative indicators of responsible behavior. If the old TSA passenger screener I used to know was still on the outside, I’d tell people to listen to everything he says, and then do the exact opposite.

    Since when ?

    • sbuffalonative

It’s time they be forced to face this issue with the FACTS. If they chose to continue to hire or air Mr. Sharpton, they need to be shamed and embarrassed. It’s time for us to hold them to their own standards and call them out.

    • me

      Before 1965.

    • SFLBIB

You bring up an interesting point. Whoever heard of, or saw, an advertisement that was true?

  • sbuffalonative

This is an excellent tactic to challenge and embarrass Mr. Sharpton. Mr. Pagones should follow him everywhere and he should contact every news agency with the FACTS that puts Mr. Sharpton on the air. If they don’t drop him, then these media outlets should be shamed and embarrassed as well.

  • joesolargenius

I am 60 years old and spent at least two thirds of my childhood living next to the railroad track in Beaumont ,Texas where on the other side was the Black Quarters, I had rock fights with the residents of that neighborhood for almost five years before school integration started. My father whom was a WWll combat veteran and a very large and extremely muscular man from a family of hard drinking and fighting men was the only White man in a union of all Blacks some 400 strong and he was a Steward. The other Union members (blacks) would place their guns on their laps in front of him whenever he stood up to speak out against something he thought was wrong, and this was during the heyday of the Civil rights movement in the sixties.I learned during those times that Blacks had been programmed to hate whites and would try and intimidate them when possible but were afraid to actually attack us openly. I never met a black male whom wanted to be my friend during those times although some of the mixed light skinned girls showed a physical interest in me but were of course forbidden to me by the unspoken rules of White conduct in those days.It was in the Marine Corps as a grown man that I first met Black men whom actually treated me with respect and one actually fought along beside me in a bar fight in Kenville ,Okinawa. As I get older I meet more and more Black people whom are friendly towards me but as there are a lot more Black people here than before I still believe that the percentages are the same. Whenever White people try to live with or associate with groups of Blacks they are subject to more danger and violence and if I continue to live in the South ,it is only a matter of time before I have to kill one in order to save some stupid White Liberal from being harmed by them . I am no longer in good enough health to physically stop several blacks from beating some one to death, therefore I have to stab or shoot one so the rest will run away ! Avoid the Groid has been my Mantra for almost twenty years and should be yours too.

    • Katherine McChesney

Sir, on many occasions you misuse the word ‘whom’. Most of those call for the word ‘who’ to be used.

  • bigone4u

WE should BOYCOTT Sharpton’s advertisers, if the dumb old fool has any. Who would watch the mindless babblings of a well-dressed, but incredibly stupid and evil groid? And we should also take Bill O’Reilly to the woodshed for giving fool Sharpton air time and credibility on The Factor.

    • Erasmus

We also need to remind people of all the politicos who’ve been kissing Sharpton’s ring. Monica Lewinsky’s boyfriends’ wife comes immediately to mind.

    • Oil Can Harry

Not only did Bozo Reilly give Sharpton air time he also gave him $25,000 out of his own pocket for a group of nonexistent black orphans.

    • Mergatroyd

Upon reading further into this, Truth Revolt, believes we should go after one advertiser at a time rather than spread ourselves out, Ritz Crackers is the first one up. Don’t forget to sign Truth Revolt’s petition and let the parent company of Ritz know why you will not be buying their product.
This can work if we all do it, advertisers only see one color: green.

  • A Freespeechzone

    Ritz Crackers for one…..

    • Spartacus

      But isn’t that racist ?

      • negrolocaust

al sharpton stands up for his people… he is aggressive, and looks out for the interests of his own race, there is not one white figure nationally who is even close to comparable to al sharpton… not one.

        • Mergatroyd

Only because he’s promoted and fawned over by the media. Don’t understand why because the media are controlled by Jews and Sharpton is an unabashed anti-Semite. He had this to say before the burning down of Freddie’s Fashion Mart:

“If the Jews want to get it on, tell them to pin their yarmulkes back and come over to my house”.

          –Al Sharpton

          • Funruffian

It’s easy to laugh from afar sitting on your multi-million dollar estates and Swiss Bank accounts. Sharpton is a gutter peon who can only look like a clown next to the wealthy media mavens and other chosen people. Maybe they think his hatred and idiot dialogue will convince the public that he’s just a race-hustling poverty pimp. Can it have the opposite effect to make him look like the slimeball for what he is? So far it hasn’t reached that point. TV has such a numbing and aggrandizing effect on the subjects.

          • BaronBaal

The Jews aren’t afraid of stupid people. They are afraid of smart people- hence their hatred for whites…

          • Didn’t he say that when he was poverty-pimping in the aftermath of the Crown Heights pogrom (described as such by then-mayor Rudolf Giuliani)?

        • FransSusan

He doesn’t really give a flip about ‘his people.’ He cares only about money and himself, and he uses extortion to get what he wants.

        • mobilebay

“…not one white figure nationally who is even close to comparable to al sharpton…not one.”

And to that, we call all say, “Thank goodess!”

    • me

      Crackers? LOL!

    • capnmorgan5150

      Maybe White bread and mayonnaise?

  • MekongDelta69

And I truly do not understand those companies that choose to advertise with Sharpton.

In reality, they don’t ‘choose’ to advertise with ‘The Justice Brothers’ (Hi-Jackson and $harp-Tone). The are extorted to advertise with them (or give $$ to their ’causes’ and ‘groups’ – like the National Action Network, etc., etc.)

Corporations all ramble on about ‘diversity’ and ‘inclusion’ and ‘tolerance’ and ‘multiculturalism’ and all the rest of that garbage, and they all have ‘This Oppressed Month’ and ‘That Oppressed Month’, ad infinitum.

But behind closed doors, a lot of them are only thinking of the bottom line. Most (not all, but most) of them can’t stand all this cr**, and they know it’s cr**, but to them, it’s a lot cheaper to pay bribes than have those two black lunatics (and many others) marching around their Corp. H.Q. and telling people to boycott whatever service or product they’re putting out.

[Don’t get me wrong. I’m not condoning it whatsoever. I wish some of them would grow a spine. I’m just saying how it REALLY is in the REAL world.]

    • Sick of it

Corporate leadership has been pushing this garbage since the 19th century. Folks just having been paying attention. The funding of the Soviet Union by American corporations is a prime example.

  • Erasmus

It’s about time. Pagones deserves justice. It’s time that everyone be reminded what a pimp and two-bit race hustler “Revrum” Al $harpton has always been. I will gladly boycott all of $harpton’s sponsors.

    Pay attention, Je$$e Jack$on. You’re next.

    • Katherine McChesney

I vaguely remember reading that Sharptons judgement was paid by Johnny Cochrun to Steven Pagones.

  • willbest

Didn’t Sharpton already lose a lawsuit to this guy? Why would Sharpton double down on the past. That is just asking for another punch in the wallet.

    • Sick of it

Because Sharpton has yet to pay him what he owes him (per a court order). He gets away with it.

      • Bon, From the Land of Babble

Sharpton never paid or apologized to Steve Pagones, however, the debt was paid FOR him:

Pagones won a $345,000 court judgment against Sharpton and his two accomplices, of which Sharpton was responsible for $65,000. But Sharpton, claiming poverty, never paid his debt… Ultimately, Sharpton’s $65,000 debt was paid (along with $22,000 in interest) in 2001 by a group of wealthy Sharpton supporters.

As for apologizing for for falsely accusing Pagones:

Because, apologizing, Sharpton said would be ‘all about submission’ to white people eager to ‘force a black man coming out of the hardcore ghetto to his knees.’

Sharpton SHOULD be brought to his knees for all the damage he’s done…

        Bon

        • Sick of it

Ahh, I did not realize he was responsible for so little a part of that judgment. It’s very odd considering how involved he was and considering how much money he brings in annually.

      • DiversityIsDeath

Sharpton’s MSCBC paycheck should be garnished to pay Pagones.

  • Sue

“I would like to think that when an advertiser spends money, it wants to

    • MBlanc46

How on earth can anyone think that advertising has anything whatever to do with integrity and truth-telling?

  • Mike Conrad

Well, maybe Mr Pagones should have considered the possible repercussions before he decided to be White in America.

  • Bon, From the Land of Babble

The first Sharpton sponsor the group is targeting is Ritz Crackers

Ritz Crackers? Really? How ironic considering Sharpton had THIS to say about crackers:

“Do some cracker come and tell you, ‘Well my mother and father blood go back to the Mayflower,’ you better hold your pocket. That ain’t nothing to be proud of, that means their forefathers was crooks.”

Sharpton is a race baiter. Therefore, he has a job for life on MSNBC.

With that said, this should have been done years ago. I will boycott anything that supports Shapton. False accusers should be made to pay a VERY heavy penalty, and not be rewarded with their own show on TV, access to the White House and called ‘my great friend’ by Sean Shamnisty.

Falsely accused Steve Pagones, had this to say today, 10/11/2013:

I remember very clearly the day I was first accused of being involved in the kidnaping and rape of Tawana Brawley. I was preparing to attend a Christening on a Sunday when my phone rang. • A fair question would be what has this poverty pimp ever actually done for the poor blacks he claims to represent? They’re not sophisticated enough to ask, but Shill O’Reilly ought to be.

  • Mergatroyd

Then the Jews should extract retribution and revenge on Sharpton. They have power, money, organizations and the media in their favor, something we whites do not have.
Why does MSNBC allow him a forum after what he’s done to the Jewish community? Start boycotting and get the ADL, SPLC and other Jewish organizations involved to go after this charleton and fraud. I’d be happy to join you after what this racist has done to MY community.

    • WR_the_realist

I’m sure the $PLC will forgive him for Crown Heights because he’s done so much to advance the cause of bashing whitey.

    • TheCogitator

Apparently they suffer from the same affliction that so many whites do. People who allow others to harm them when they have the ability to stop it are mentally ill. For all their faults and weaknesses blacks do not suffer from this malady. You will never find a black weakening his position for the benefit of a non-black.

    • Katherine McChesney

The Talmud Israelites are supporters of frauds like Sharpton.

  • SFLBIB

“When Tawana Brawley, a young black woman in New York City, invented the story that she had been raped by white men, her cause was loudly championed by people who acted as if the truth or falsity of her story was irrelevant. And after it was shown to be false, her role in the story of black oppression was defended by some who wrote that even if she did fake the crime, her ‘condition’
was the expression of ‘some’ crime against her that entitled her to be the object of our grieving. … Making the legal process the wholly subjective expression of group-determined minds ends the possibility of people from different groups agreeing about anything and converts the objectivity of the law into an expression of group beliefs. And that means the end of the rule of law.” [Emphasis added] – Law Prof. James Q. Wilson, Moral Judgement.

    • Reverend Bacon

You make excellent points. And it’s deja vu all over again with Crystal Mangum (Duke Lacrosse rape hoax) and Sharmeka Moffett (Midwest KKK hoax). Once these people are outed as liars, the crap about how white people made them lie comes to the fore. They don’t want the facts to interfere with their talking points.

After so much clear evidence that every white-on-black crime report is a hoax, and every black-on-white crime is buried, you’d think the MSM would be more cautious. Enter the Agoura Hills “racist graffiti” hoax of earlier this year. They pounced on it, but then, of course, they just dropped it. Never mentioned it, never had their feet held to the fire over it. Nothing.

Yes, my friend, that sure sounds like the end of the rule of law.

      • SFLBIB

“… that sure sounds like the end of the rule of law.”

“… Sharpton, Maddox, and Mason had accused the Dutchess County prosecutor, Steven Pagones, of racism and of being one of the perpetrators of the alleged abduction and rape. The three were successfully sued for defamation, and were ordered to pay $345,000 in damages, with the jury finding Sharpton liable for making seven defamatory statements about Pagones, Maddox for
two, and Mason for one. Sharpton refused to pay his share of the damages; it was later paid by a number of black business leaders including Johnnie Cochran.” — wikipedia under “Al Sharpton”

Sorry, this is America. The only thing that counts is ratings. Integrity has become a casualty of the MSM.

  • WR_the_realist

Here’s one of Al Sharpton’s “little sins” that most people don’t know about. Some years ago a some telco (I think it was AT&T) put out an internal newsletter showing people from different parts of the world talking on the phone. Because chimpanzees live in Africa the creator of that article though it would be cute to show a chimpanzee talking on the phone for Africa. Well, Al Sharpton learned about that and had a big protest with his usual rent-a-mob because of AT&T’s RACIST depiction of Africans. AT&T did the expected — they groveled, and fired the person who wrote that article. So a no doubt perfectly decent person lost his job thanks to Al.

    • Jack Burton

Odd, since nearly ever AT&T rep I’ve ever talked to on the phone has been black. Very passive-aggressive, rude, incompetent blacks.

I am a Gentile and I do not for a moment believe “Jews run it all.”

That is just a smokescreen. TPTB use a lot of Jews, the way I see it, to incite anti-Semitism. Unfortunately there are too many Jews that don’t mind selling out. But that doesn’t put them at the top, so to speak. A friend of mine refers to them as “papal court Jews.”

The Rothschilds are known as the “pope’s bankers” for example. Go figure!
