De Niro: Too Soon for Another White First Lady

Caitlin McDevitt, Politico, March 20, 2012

Actor Robert De Niro thrilled the crowd at a New York fundraiser headlined by first lady Michelle Obama when he listed the alternatives.

Callista Gingrich. Karen Santorum. Ann Romney. Now do you really think our country is ready for a white first lady?” De Niro asked a star-studded crowd gathered in the backroom of Locanda Verde, a restaurant he owns on Greenwich Street in TriBeCa.

Someone in the crowd shouted, “No!” as De Niro quickly added, “Too soon, right?”

Celebrities including Beyonce, her mother Tina Knowles, Star Jones, Whoopi Goldberg, Gayle King, Angela Bassett and Ben Stiller were spotted by the pool reporter at the 85-person event, where tickets started at $5,000 per person, benefiting the Obama Victory Fund. {snip}

DerNiro’s wealth and status make it difficult for him to understand the plight of middle class and more seriously blue collar whites who actually have to live around blacks. I still love his movies (mostly from 1995 backward) and I’m pretty much accepting that Hollywood actors are liberals. No reasonably intelligent person gets their opinions from his ilk anyway.

  • I find it interesting that this moron is obsessed with his Italian identity, and regularly travels to Italy, and cherishes his Italian citizenship, yet he makes idiotic remarks like this.

    •  And is 3/4 Irish.

      • MikeofAges

The best of both worlds, then?

  • For all his wackiness, Newt Gingrich has a sharp tongue.

Has De Niro ever dated a white woman? Not that I am aware of.

  • rentslave

He has too much dinero to understand anything.

People brandish the liberalism of the Hollywood elite like some kind of trophy, as if it would bolster that ideology. But you have to wonder about the appeal of a mindset that overwhelmingly attracts people who make their living by pretending to be other people, in a fantasy land.

I keep thinking of something the comedian Louis C.K. said. All of these boy-wonders like George Clooney and De Niro  will stand in front of a podium and extemporize about equality. But after the applause have died, they go out to the parking lot and berate some Mestizo for taking the pennies from their Lamborghini. Their universalism is all an act that stops at the iron-gate surrounding their mansion.

  • Italian is a major part of my ethnic constitution, and yes, there is (or rather, was) an Italian restaurant in the family.  De Niro is probably a servant to his own ideology.  But believe me, if you spend enough time around the Italian restaurants or the Italian neighborhood of St. Louis, you won’t find anyone who thinks we have to have a black FLOTUS.

    • MikeofAges

Not a black FLOTUS? This needs more explanation.

      • FLOTUS = First Lady Of The United States

It is no secret that to get anywhere in Hollywood, one must toe the “party line”.
As a result, there are few true conservatives in Hollywood.  Tom Selleck and Mel Gibson come to mind; Mel Gibson was pilloried for stating the truth.
If you want to know WHY Hollywood is “liberal”, look who runs it.
From “hip-hop (rap) to all types of “race-norming” and “lifestyle-norming” stuff, one can easily see that the debasement of our once-great “culture” is intentional.
ANY criticism by any conservative Hollywood actor is almost always a “kiss of death” to their career.

I’m sure if Newt thought it would get him elected he would be happy to divorce his current wife and marry a black woman.

  • RobRoySimmons

Tribeca being a wealthy white area that segregates itself from poor non-whites, except the help.

    • MikeofAges

Not to mention poor white, whom they believe exist to decorate the streets with exotic characters. No plight for these people, you know.

The answer to De Niro’s comment is in your wallet.  Let him & Hollywood know what you think by not spending another dollar on his films, dvd rentals or pay-per-views.  It takes discipline  & the impulse is to let the other guy do it while you keep on buying his tickets but we’ve all got to do it.

  • That bastard Gingrich left out Mrs. Ron Paul, TWICE.

  • shmo123

About the only thing Italian about DeNiro is his name. The guy is about 1/6 Italian. His father was half Italian, his mother English, German, French and Dutch.

Do these highly-paid, emotionally unstable  attention mongers  known as celebrities actually think the rest of the country is influenced politically by their ’cause du jour’? For the most part, any time I see a celebrity touting anything I instantly  go the other way.

  • saxonsun

He always has black women–never otherwise.

  • MikeofAges

C’mon. If he means by “white first lady” one of those pill-and-alcohol blitzed fake blonds with a surgically altered face, then he’s right. Otherwise, the candidate is the issue. As long as his wife doesn’t think she supposed to be co-president. Actually, I give Michelle a pretty high score on that one considering the possibilities.

  • I guess De Niro is more “Analyze This” than “Raging Bull”  but we knew that anyway…….Im sure real Italians are loving his call for more Moochelle!

  • De Niro’s mother was a communist. Might’ve rubbed off a little.
