Broad Street Arrest That Went Viral Overturned as Man ‘Wrongly Charged’ With Assaulting Officer

A man charged with assaulting a female police officer in Birmingham city centre has had the case against him dropped after footage that went viral online was reviewed.

Cody Harper, 20, had been charged with assaulting the officer after police responded to an incident in Broad Street on Sunday, June 21 at around 1.30am.

He had been due to appear at Birmingham magistrates’ court on July 23 but will no longer face the charges after the Crown Prosecution Service overruled the decision of West Midlands Police following calls to release the arrest footage.

Footage shared widely online appeared to show a man being attacked by a group of men.

A female police officer appeared to told the man against a wall after he was pushed to the ground by one of the other men.

He reacts by swinging his arm, and appeared to hit the police officer in her head.
