Victim, Suspect Identified in Fatal Stabbing on Marta Train

The victim and suspect in a fatal stabbing on a MARTA train were identified Sunday by authorities.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office identified the victim as 66-year-old Margaret Swan of Atlanta.

MARTA police identified the suspect as 25-year-old John Elijah Matthews. He is facing murder charges in Saturday’s fatal stabbing.

Just last week, a man was stabbed multiple times at the Georgia State MARTA station. The victim is recovering.

In April, a 16-year-old boy was shot and killed at the Oakland City MARTA Station, which is where Saturday’s stabbing occurred.

MARTA statistics show that crime is down, but some riders say it’s not enough.
