Islamist Bomb Hoax on Paris Train Causes Chaos

A 56-year-old Islamist caused panic aboard an inter-city train in France on Monday morning after claiming to have planted explosives, triggering a full-scale security operation at the Achères–Grand Cormier station in the Paris suburbs.

The incident occurred on the 7:02 a.m. train from Le Havre to Paris when the man reportedly began shouting “Allahu Akbar” repeatedly and announced that he had planted a bomb on board, threatening to detonate it.

As reported by Le Parisien, frightened passengers rushed to the front of the train to escape the man, prompting immediate action by fellow travelers and an SNCF conductor who alerted authorities.

At approximately 9:20 a.m., the train was halted at Achères–Grand Cormier station, where police officers subdued the suspect at gunpoint.

The station and the train, which carried around 150 passengers, were promptly evacuated as a precautionary measure. Bomb disposal experts were called in to inspect the scene, though no explosives were ultimately found.

The incident disrupted regional rail service, with some trains rerouted and others cancelled entirely.

Authorities placed the suspect, a resident of Seine-Saint-Denis, in police custody under suspicion of “glorifying terrorism.” However, a subsequent psychiatric evaluation determined that the man, who had no prior police record, was suffering from severe mental health issues.

He was declared criminally unfit and ordered to be involuntarily committed to a psychiatric facility.

Police confirmed there was no indication of an actual terrorist plot, and no other individuals are believed to have been involved.

The investigation has since been closed with no criminal charges filed.
