One Dead, 16 Injured in Tuskegee University 100th Homecoming Celebration Shooting

An early morning shooting on Tuskegee University’s campus has cast a grim pall over the school’s 100th homecoming celebration, leaving one teen dead and several others injured, including university students.

One arrest has been made in the investigation as agents allege Jaquez Myrick, 25, of Montgomery, was in possession of a handgun with a machine gun conversion device and charged federally with possession of a Machine Gun. Investigators say Myrick way found leaving the scene of the shooting.

ALEA responded to the scene at 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, November 10, after multiple individuals were reported shot. Twelve victims injured by gunfire and transported to hospitals, four sustained non-gunfire-related injuries.

The shooting occurred during a large gathering in the parking lot near the West Residence Halls along Luther Foster Drive. The scene of the shooting is extensive, with yellow crime scene tape encompassing a large section of the parking lot. Numerous investigators, including Tuskegee University Police, Tuskegee City Police, and Macon County Sheriff’s deputies, remain on site. Sheriff André Brunson confirmed that the shooting happened in the parking lot during the homecoming gathering, where one individual was killed and numerous others were injured. Investigators have asked media not to take video of the active crime scene.
