A boy attacked by a roaming Ongar gang was eating at a Chinese takeaway when he was randomly beaten over the head with a metal chair.
The Irish Sun revealed yesterday how locals have been targeted by a group of up to 50 youths armed with crowbars and baseball bats in recent weeks.
The latest vicious assault came inside a restaurant in Ongar village, Dublin, at around 11pm on Sunday, when four young men were badly beaten by the group — known as the Pesties and who’ve dubbed themselves the ‘Ongar N*****s’.
A relative of one of the victims last night told how the unprovoked assault and attempted robbery unfolded as the pals were eating.
They said: “(The attack) was actually inside the Chinese while they were minding their own business eating dinner.
“(It was a) totally random attack like they’ve been attacking everyone else.
“They ran by the window staring in and came back five minutes later and smashed through the doors, tried to rob their phones that were sitting on the table.
“They battered (my relative) with a metal chair as well.”
Local Green Party Cllr Roderic O’Gorman, who was re-elected at the weekend, condemned the latest incident.
He told the Irish Sun: “It’s hugely concerning to see this sort of violence happening in the middle of Ongar village.
“It’s clear Garda resources need to return to Ongar quickly.”
Gardai confirmed the incident. A spokeswoman said: “Gardai attended the scene of an incident on Sunday May 26, 2019 at approx. 11pm in Ongar Village, Dublin 15.
“Four males — aged 18 & 19 — were assaulted outside a restaurant and received minor injuries.
“Damage was done to the restaurant. No arrests were made and investigations are ongoing.”
