Belgian police have launched a manhunt for a teenager after footage emerged of him calling for “the murder of all Christians”.
The video shows the 15-year-old, who has not been named, in Verviers and, in Arabic, declaring, “Oh Allah, destroy the odious Christians. Oh Allah kill them all.”
The boy is filmed on a French website saying, “Don’t spare any of them.”
The film was shot in Verviers, the scene of a successful anti-terrorism operation last year.
Police said the boy has been identified and is on a list of radicalised persons, but did not disclose his name.
A source said the teenager, the son of a local radical imam, posed a potentially “serious threat” to the public and they wanted to trace him “as soon as possible.”
Verviers Mayor Muriel Targnion said the video was being taken seriously and has asked the police to trace the boy “as a matter of urgency.”
Liège newspaper La Meuse reports that the teenager is the son of a local radical imam, El Alami Amaouch, who currently faces deportation to the Netherlands.
Amaouch has duel Dutch-Moroccan nationality and is imam at a mosque in the village of Dison, near Verviers.
Theo Francken, Belgium’s Minister for Asylum and Migration, said the authorities had repeatedly tried to extradite Amaouch to the Netherlands but his appeal had delayed proceedings.
“We have been trying to get him out of the country for the past year but he has appealed. I can only hope that the Aliens’ Council deports him quickly”, Francken told VRT News.
Francken says that the imam was the “spiritual father” of a terrorist cell in Verviers, adding, “It seems that it runs in the family.”
Meanwhile, a policewoman is due to undergo surgery after being attacked by a machete-wielding man at a police station in Charleroi on Saturday.
In January 2015, police disrupted a suspected extremist cell Verviers. The authorities said the terrorists’ aim was to kidnap a high-ranking Belgian representative and behead him live online.
