Al-Qaeda Unveils New Magazine Aimed at Western Jihadis

Rob Crilly, Telegraph (London), March 10, 2014

Al-Qaeda is starting an English language magazine as part of a fresh effort to recruit and inspire Western jihadis to launch attacks in their own countries, according to security analysts.

A video posted on YouTube uses the words of Malcolm X to justify violent struggle, before announcing the name of the magazine, Resurgence.

It appears to be modelled on Inspire, an online publication produced by al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), which has carried messages from Osama bin Laden, bomb making directions and tactics for launching “lone wolf” attacks.

However, the new magazine appears to be the first English language magazine from the group’s core leadership and is advertised with a slick video from as-Sahab, its media production house. Analysts believe it marks a shift from al-Qaeda’s recent focus on Syria.

It mixes graphics, images of George W Bush and warplanes launching missiles with a speech by Malcolm X, the African-American Muslim leader, in which he said: “You can’t ever reach a man if you don’t speak his language. If a man speaks the language of brute force, you can’t come to him with peace.”

Magnus Ranstorp, a terrorism expert at Swedish National Defence College, said the choice was significant, playing on polarisation among youths from immigrant communities and using social tension to justify violence.

“Its simplicity appeals in many ways. It focuses on the raw emotions of victimhood in the Muslim world which reinforces the al-Qaeda narrative that the West is aggressively at war with Islam,” he said.

The use of English, he said, reinforced the idea it was directed at second and third generation immigrants as well as converts.

And it suggested something of a response to the groups troubles in Syria, where the core leadership has cut ties to its offshoot the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham.

An analysis published by IntelCenter, a counter-terrorism intelligence service, concluded the magazine may signify a shift from the Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan–and a slew of messages in Urdu–back to the West.

“The announcement of the Resurgence magazine is a strong indicator that as-Sahab is working to make a major push back into the English language,” it said.

“The content and tone of the video indicates that this will likely be along the lines of AQAP’s Inspire magazine with a focus on motivating aspiring jihadists in the West to conduct attacks in their own countries.”

[Editor’s Note: YouTube has removed the propaganda video.]

And we’re allowing this magazine to be shipped into western countries why?

And there are any western Jihadists in western countries why?

    • And there are any western Jihadists in western countries why?

Increasingly, probably because they were born here and apparently they find us repulsive.
The feeling is mutual I’m sure.

      • 1stworlder

Nope they are imported with your taxes. See Refugee Resettlement Watch for details.

        • Ron Cheaters

Its most likely they open the borders wide to these people it seems like an attempt to say. “We are not racist, or against any religeon. We accept the killing of our people and encourage it! Welcome to America/Canada/Australia! It makes us look bad to be at war with you and not let you free-reign to our countries… here’s your welfare and welcome package. Don’t spend it all in one place wink wink, nudge nudge”

          Sickening!

    • Nathanwartooth

Inspire was online and I believe this will be as well.

    • 1stworlder

Same reason we are allowing your taxes to bring in muslims. The boston marathon brothers and Ft Dix attackers both came in under the Refugee Resettlement Program

    • Alexandra1973

And yet they can open your mail and read it. What the fudge…?

  • IstvanIN

to recruit and inspire Western jihadis to launch attacks in their own countries

The Anglo-Sphere is NOT their own countries. Europe, outside of Albania and, unfortunately, thanks to the US, Kosovo, is not their country. They are hostile aliens who have no business in our nations.

  • Truthseeker

This type of thing is a clear security threat, and it would be in the interests of the Western nations to have it removed and banned. However, you know that anyone who tries to do so, or even questions whether Muslims should be living among us Westerners, will be declared a “racist,” and that this will be dismissed as some negligible group of nuts who don’t represent true Islam.

    • NoMosqueHere

I don’t care if they call me a racist. They can go straight to hell.

  • mobilebay

These are sub-humans, driven by hate, who plan to either covert the world to their rotten religion, way of life and laws, or kill each one who doesn’t join them. They should not be allowed to live among normal people.

    • Einsatzgrenadier

Muslims don’t even have to go on jihad anymore if they want to destroy the west. All they have to do these days is just mass immigrate to Europe, collect welfare and outbreed white people. Muammar Gaddafi, former Libyan strongman, once said:

“There are signs that Allah will grant victory to Islam in Europe without swords, without guns, without conquest. We don’t need terrorists, we don’t need homicide bombers. The 50+ million Muslims [in Europe] will turn it into a Muslim continent within a few decades.”

  • DaveMed

I want this magazine to be in circulation in Western countries.

Islam is at war with the West regardless of whether they put out such pamphlets. I prefer that this be an open war of which Whites are aware, instead of an insidious death-by-an-exponentially-growing-number-of-Muslim-births.

I can’t see a downside to this development (from our perspective).

    • AndrewInterrupted

I’m sure MSLSD will have several copies available
in the front lobby, to ensure diverse reading material.

    • Puggg

I’m going to walk back on all four legs what I said earlier here. You’re right, the more we see of their real agenda, the better it is for us. Though you would have thought after 9/11 we would already know their real agenda, and would have come up with a response that’s stronger and more effective than invading a country that had nothing to do with 9/11 and just spending money on useless stuff and letting far many more of their types into the country even after 9/11.

      • DaveMed

I could not agree more with the spirit of your previous comment. In a sane world, we wouldn’t [need to] allow the magazine because we wouldn’t have any members of its target audience in the country.

Sadly, there are jihadists* in Western countries. Why that is the case is a subject that baffles all of us.

*I use this word interchangeably with “Muslims”, because they are one and the same.

    • M&S

While I generally agree that this can have a useful effect in associating anyone who bombs based on instructions they received on Resurgence with Islamic Terrorism, I can see at least two potential issues with your argument:
      1. It gives The West free reign to declare a constant police state level of security risk, so long as one man in the CIA’s basement is writing ‘contributing articles’ to this rag. i.e. It invites Phantom Menacing as the designated of enemy of the moment.
      2. Everything from PopSci to Aviation Week self-censors their articles so that there is no release of sensitive details to the public on the technical aspects of certain weapons systems capabilities. If you read long enough, you generally learn to look through the obscuration and build a fact base which allows you to develop some real understandings but ‘with wisdom comes peace’ as they say.
That doesn’t work here because ‘sounds like’ isn’t the same as -does work- on the flash in the pan vs. real Terrorism 101 and there are enough ‘experts’ out there who would instantly point out any ersatz equivalent.
Give some nutjob looking for pipebomb data and SWAT tactics the real deal and he could generate a situation by which he _specifically aligns_ the causational factors to create further mazcats by drawing in critical emergency or police services to get dead as First Responders.
It’s the old technique of shooting twenty people in a crowded shopping market and then walking away from the bomb in the trash can you placed there that morning so that you can kill the parameds who come to pick up the pieces.
If you want to instill terror, create a situation whereby the appearance of a government in control must be set against the reality of a government which cannot respond to emergent conditions for reasons of ‘force protection’ need to save the rescuers.
I’m saying nothing that AQ doesn’t already know and which isn’t already available online. But if you give it a specific site name as broadsheet, you multiply the number of savage pretenders who would not otherwise have the brains or the patience to do the real research.
This in turn invites the libraries and servers to self-censor connections and we’re right back at condition #1.
In point of truth, nothing which isn’t racially based on genetics is ever going to get across the reality that this is not a ‘social issue’ and cannot be approached by social filters and ‘retraining’ of a global population which already is in fact an 85% majority over us.
Rather, AQ behavior is Savannah Principle driven off the reality of low environmental resources leading to low incentivism to trade self-deprivation for higher social status because quite simply, carrying capacity is so restrictive that their cannot be a large functioning elite in the middle latitudes above/below the equator. For millennia.
This in evolutionary shaping mechanism having in turn led to a condition where, by geography, these ‘hot bands’ have lasting genetic intelligence deficits in their populations. And as we well know from our own ethnic trouble makers, where there is limited awareness of The Greater World, so too is there less moral restraint in shattering it.
Which can be simplified to: “My daddy’s daddy’s grandpappy was stupid too and none of us have had the intellectual stimulus as secure lives to change that condition because…rat for dinner.”
Which is why the Middle East, being one of the richest oil geographies on the planet, /now/, remains in a mid to low 80s average IQ range.
Unfortunately, with stupidity comes R-Breeding as an added bad habit, further soaking limited physical resources, short life span as cultural intelligence base and population pressure habituated warfare as negative drivers to social evolution.
And so you’re left with the reality that not only are these people sad remnants of the genetic potential that once we all escaped from Africa with (literally being environmentally adapted to a lower level of reasoning) but they are also _instinctively_ driven by a Genetic Algorithm which says that the only way to get better is to push out a bubble of relatedness as a control over whatever resources there are present.
You cannot talk these people out of being what they are. You cannot ‘retrain’ them. They are what their genetic selection routine has made of them, from millennia of environmental pressures.
In that, the accusation that The West is at war with Islam is correct. Except that it’s not Islam but the Genetic Algorithm (breed a warrior state, expand, consume all resources, breed a warrior state, expand) which we are fighting against here.
Mohammed being as much a product of his environment as these fools.
You might as well try fighting Tribbles by locking them in a grain silo and daring them to eat themselves to death. Hand the first one bomb making instructions and a credit card and they will be out of the silo and all over the farm, in a heartbeat.

  • JSS

I wouldn’t be surprised if this stupid magazine was a creation of our own government. As long they can scare us with “terrorist” they can keep building up this police state which in reality is meant to spy on and oppress us. But if its real then Al Qaeda needs to rethink their strategy. The malcom x thing Im assuming is geared towards our black Muslims but everyone knows blacks don’t read.

  • Spartacus

I suggest everyone here start reading the bomb-making parts .

    • AndrewInterrupted

The bomb design they call: “…the Lockerbie…” is especially innovative.
That one should make the Better Bombs & Boobytraps special edition.

    • Sure thing, Hal Turner.

  • dd121

In more enlightened times, the authorities would go to their downtown offices, arrest our enemies and either sentence them to long prison terms or immediately deport them.

  • David Ashton

Diversity gets more vibrant every day.

  • The real issue is how to get every Muslim out of the country since none of them can be trusted. They are genetically oriented to hate, as proved by thousands of years of middle east history.

    • DaveMed

As I posted on the Telegraph page, Western countries need to remove the incentives.

Slash the welfare states. More importantly, make the cuts hit Muslim institutions disproportionately hard. Such a move is politically untenable in 2014, but the day will come when even liberal Whites see the danger European countries are in.

    • 1stworlder

Don’t need to get them out of the country, in the ground is fine by me.

  • NoMosqueHere

The answer is simple. All third world immigration must end and expulsions of muslim jihadists and their sympathizers must begin in earnest

  • Einsatzgrenadier

Who seriously believes that blowing yourself up or dying as a martyr will land you a spot in paradise with 72 virgins? We are talking about a religion that was founded by a child-abusing goatherd who received a divine revelation from the Angel Gabriel every time he fell to the ground, had an epileptic seizure and began foaming at the mouth. Just look at the Koran, the supposed word of god, a disorganized book plagiarized from the Talmud and Nestorian Christianity. Only a culture that practices first cousin marriage and sexually abuses children could produce a stupid religion like that. Islam has low IQ written all over it.

    • JohnEngelman

I have read the major writings of each of the world’s great religions. The Koran is the least impressive. On every several pages readers are warned that if they disagree with what they are reading they will go to hell.

Comparable passages in the New Testament are few and lend themselves to other interpretations.

The Old Testament lacks a concept of posthumous rewards and punishes. What is translated as “Hell” in many English translations is either death, the grave, or Sheol.

  • saxonsun

But an English nationalist group wouldn’t be able to publish!

  • dd121

Sounds a lot what people refer to as “myth”.

  • Does that mean I’m not going?

    • M&S

It means it probably doesn’t exist except as an artifact of your mind as your willed desire for it to. Anymore than the Pearly Gates or Nirvana as an ecstasy of blessed oblivion do.
OTOH, say there -is- an afterlife.
Say that it is the sum and synergy of your conscience as life experiences, rather than, as most religions would tell you, the abrogation of them as a submission before a supreme deity who wipes your will to make you his/it’s/her own.
Do you really want to take that mess of death-fear/torment-eternalism with you, just to prove you DO have an immortal soul?
Whatever you did is the hell of your living remembrance. Crawl out of that cave. Make up for it in this life if you can. Avoid imprinting it any deeper if you can’t.
Do not let it be the sole expurgation of your existence.
Because it won’t be any more or less than what you make of it, after.
