Who Wants Gun Control, and Why?

Once again, Americans are fighting for their freedoms, this time for Second Amendment rights. Fresh from taking control of the state house, Democrats in Virginia are pushing gun control. They have the full support of Governor Ralph Northam, who is no doubt still truckling to the Left because of his blackface scandal.

He is not as brazen as Beto O’Rourke, who during his failed bid for the Democrat nomination for president said, “Hell, yes we’re coming for your AR-15,” but these are serious steps towards confiscation. A big part of the problem is that Virginia’s population is now 12 percent immigrants, and population growth is due exclusively to non-whites:

Virginia’s foreign-born population has grown exponentially since 1970 from 1 in 100 to 1 in 9 in 2012, University of Virginia researchers found in census data.

The population shift, most notably in Northern Virginia, is changing the state’s educational, political and social landscape.

The Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service released the study Tuesday, listing El Salvador, India, Mexico, the Philippines and South Korea as the top five countries of origin. . . .

More than 770,000 Virginia residents were foreign-born in 2006, or 1 in 10. The population increased six years later to almost 950,000, according to the center’s research.

The New York Times interviewed an immigrant in Northern Virginia’s Fairfax County who admitted that the only issue he cared about was clamping down on gun rights:

‘Guns, that is the most pressing issue for me,’ said Vijay Katkuri, 38, a software engineer from southern India, explaining why he voted for a Democratic challenger in Tuesday’s elections. He was shopping for chicken at the Indian Spice Food Market. ‘There are lots of other issues, but you can only fix them if you are alive.’

Mr. Katkuri’s vote — the first of his life — helped flip a longtime Republican State Senate district and deliver the Virginia statehouse to the Democratic Party for the first time in a generation . . . .

Once the heart of the confederacy, Virginia is now the land of Indian grocery stores, Korean churches and Diwali festivals. The state population has boomed — up by 38 percent since 1990 . . . . One in 10 people eligible to vote in the state were born outside the United States, up from one in 28 in 1990. It is also significantly less white.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) has been ineffective in Virginia. Located in the heart of Fairfax County, NRA headquarters are clearly visible from Interstate 66. It has raised huge sums to fight gun control, but refuses to acknowledge that demography is destiny. The Great Replacement means the end of not just our culture but our rights.

The neighborhood is changing right under the NRA’s nose. In 1990, the surrounding county was 81.3 percent white. Now it is only 61 percent white. As the Washington Post notes happily, the NRA’s demise is “inevitable,” because it’s only whites who care about gun rights, and whites are on the way out. Do NRA brass read the Post — or even look out the window?

Aside from demographic change, no one on either side of the debate asks the obvious question: Who is committing the gun crime that Democrats claim they want to prevent.

The data are easy to find. Look no further than a story from the Virginia Mercury in September 2019, admitting blacks are either suspect or victim in 94 percent of the shootings in Norfolk — one of Virginia’s largest cities — even though they are no more than 42 percent of the city’s population.

The 2018 Virginia Uniform Crime Report notes that statewide, although blacks were 19 percent of the population, they represented 70 percent of the arrests for homicide. That meant they were eight times more likely than non-blacks to be arrested for murder. The difference compared to whites was probably even greater, because the report calls Hispanics “white.”

In the capital, Richmond, gun murders are practically a black monopoly. The Richmond Times-Dispatch reported 95 percent of homicide suspects were black in 2016. This was down from 97 percent in 2015.

White conservatives and the NRA don’t dare talk about this. The push for gun control in Virginia and the United States will unfairly punish law-abiding whites because of black crime. Unless white Americans become immune to accusations of “racism” they will lose their Second Amendment rights and their nation. And they’ll deserve to.
