What Trump Hath Wrought

Terrible blunders; great achievements.

Donald Trump has made fearful, even unforgivable mistakes, but he has done something no other president has done in nearly 100 years: He has reversed the relentless increase in the number of foreigners living in the United States. During Mr. Obama’s two terms, the brown and blue lines, the number was up 6.3 million.

In his first term, the first green line, even Mr. Trump let in 1.6 million, and Joe Biden, the purple line, broke all records and in just four years, waved in 8.3 million. This term, Mr. Trump reversed course. By July this year, the number of foreigners was down 2.9 million.
There hasn’t been a drop in the number of foreigners since the Great Depression (except for a tiny dip during Covid). Reversing such a sustained trend is heroic. How did Mr. Trump do it?
By attacking on all fronts. First, he turned off the flow of illegals. Under Mr. Biden, there were as many as 300,000 illegal crossings in a single month, and most of those people stayed.

With Mr. Trump, yes, a few make it across the border, as you can see at the right, but almost every one is caught and booted back, so illegal immigration is statistically zero. That is a tremendous achievement.
Mr. Trump also took a meat ax to legal immigration. Here is a graph from the CATO Institute.

The vertical line at Jan. 2025 is the start of Trump II. To the left of that is Biden, and let’s look at the categories, top to bottom. Student visas surge along with college admissions in the summertime, and even under Trump, there was a sharp rise, the summer of his first year. This graph goes only as far as early 2026, but estimates are that the summer surge this year was 35 to 40 percent lower than last year, with visas for Indians and Chinese taking an especially big hit. Mr. Trump thinks American universities should be for Americans. What an idea!
The next category, H1-B and H-4 visas (H-4s are for families of the H1-B types), recently took a very gratifying tumble after stiff new fees for employers were imposed last September—though they are being litigated. The idea that those were highly skilled jobs Americans couldn’t do was always baloney. Next category, the thin yellow line, is foreign fiancés of Americans. There were never very many, but Trump put the squeeze on shady transactions.
That green stuff, “parole,” was a Biden trick to let in people legally who didn’t belong, and Trump got rid of that right away. He also cut way back on refugees, and the ones he has let in are overwhelmingly South African whites. At the very bottom in light blue are mostly family reunification visas, and since January this year, the end of the graph, Trump has cut them further, but family reunification is permitted by law and not easy to cut to zero.
Here are some other marvelous things the Trump admin has done. At the top you see the percentages of people who get asylum when they apply for it. Most asylum seekers are frauds, and everyone knows it, but Under Obama, as many as 55.5 percent got asylum.

Trump I brought the rate steadily down to just over 20 percent, but under Trump II, the rate is just 5-1/2 percent, and has stayed there through September. This, of course, discourages other frauds from applying.
Below, you can see monthly approvals for applications by foreigners who want to naturalize and become US citizens. Under Trump II, before the administration started clamping down, as many as 88,000 foreigners became citizens in a single month. Now, that’s down to about 15,000 a month. The process also takes longer because the government weeds out criminals, liars, America-haters, and potential welfare bums.
Keeping people out is easy. Booting illegals is a lot harder. There can be tremendous public opposition to ICE raids, and judges with unpronounceable names throw up every possible obstacle.

Still, as you can see from this graph, ICE has been making arrests in record numbers. There was a dip last winter, after the two shootings in Minneapolis, but now, in a good month, ICE rounds up 50,000 people.

It’s all very well to say it should do more — and it should — but catching, housing, processing, and deporting 1,600 people a day is a big job.
Trump II has really pushed what are called “voluntary departures.” As you can see at the right, these have taken off.

Most of these are illegals who have been collared by ICE and who decide to waive all appeals to get out of detention — and they agree to leave at their own expense. For the illegal, this avoids a final expulsion order, which makes it almost impossible to come back legally. For us, it gets them off our hands quicker — sometimes a lot quicker — and saves us an air ticket.
A wonderful Trump innovation has been the CBP Home app.

An illegal registers with DHS, which then gives him and his family a free trip home — if they leave soon. Each person gets a $3,000 “exit bonus,” once he is well and truly gone. By mid-March this year, 80,000 illegals had left that way.
The administration says it has deported a million illegals, and estimates that two million more cleared out on their own, rather than wait for ICE to get them. This is by far the best way to go. Every illegal should get the message: “We can come for you any time. Get your affairs in order and leave when you choose, not when we choose.”

It’s all very well to go after “the worst of the worst,” but ICE must go after everyone: deport that beloved Vietnamese nail salon owner and popular Guatemalan school teacher.

I want every illegal to go to bed thinking he could be snapped up tomorrow.
This administration also put the “temporary” back into temporary protected status. That is supposed to let foreigners stay while their country gets through a bad patch, like a hurricane or an insurrection. Seventeen countries had TPS at the beginning the term, and Mr. Trump lifted protection for these 13.

And look over on the right: Years of TPS. Twenty-six for Honduras and Nicaragua and 35 for Somalia. Temporary? What a joke. And every one of these countries is a dump because the people who live there made it a dump. It’s high time they left.
That is over a million people who never belonged here, and ICE is pitching them out as fast as it can.

Remember all the bellyaching about wonderful workers we were going to lose? The Center for Immigration Studies reports that only 44 percent of the decline in the foreign-born under Trump are workers; the rest are children, the elderly, and other non-workers. NO IMAGE Americans are filling those jobs.
Here’s a headline for you: “H-1B Crackdown on Indian Workers Erodes a Texas Real Estate Boom.” In the Dallas suburbs of Frisco, Prosper, and Celina, H1-B Indians bid up house prices. Out go the Indians, down come the prices, and in move the Americans. Bloomberg News thinks this is a tragedy.
In effect, we have a remigration government, without being explicitly white nationalist.

A few Irishmen and Poles get caught in ICE’s net. I know a German who wanted an H-1B and can’t get one under the new rules. But the overwhelming effect is to make America white again.

This, combined with Donald Trump’s fight against DEI madness makes him the best President for us since Calvin Coolidge. If we had 10 more years of Trumpian population policy this might be a country really worth having.
The tragedy, of course, is that it was just our luck to have a guy who did everything right on immigration and DEI — and everything wrong on just about everything else.

He also has a vulgar streak that makes it easy to hate him. Republicans — who are turning inexorably into the white people’s party — will have a terrible time keeping Congress, much less the White House.
If, by Inauguration Day 2029, the Democrats are in charge, they will wreck everything Donald Trump has done and, once again, flood the country with polliwogs. And bring back DEI, take Andy Jackson off the twenty, and maybe even find a way to force Elon Musk to sell X to George Soros.

But love him or hate him, Donald Trump will have proven what can be done with political power. And when the so-called “far right” takes over in a European country, what Trump hath wrought will be a road map to the first phase of the remigration program that will save our civilization.
