ICE Agents Shoot Man in NYC as 5-Year-Old Boy Sits in Backseat of Car

Kerry Burke, Daily News, October 8, 2026

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents shot a man in an SUV on a bustling New York City street Thursday afternoon as a 5-year-old boy sat in the vehicle’s backseat, sparking a heated confrontation between the feds and outraged citizens, officials said.

One ICE agent fired seven rounds into the silver Honda Civic at about 4 p.m. on Marble Hill Ave. near W. 225th St. in the Bronx, hitting the victim in the neck, NYPD Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said at a late-night press conference at the scene.

The Department of Homeland Security said on X that the wounded man was “a criminal illegal alien from the Dominican Republic” that ICE had been searching for.

After the man was treated at New York Presbyterian Allen Hospital, ICE agents “put the man in an unmarked vehicle and whisked him away,” Mamdani said.

The shooting was not caught on camera, Tisch said. The man ICE shot has been arrested twice in New York City: one for robbery in 2023, in which he pleaded guilty to fourth-degree grand larceny and was sentenced to five years’ probation, and one for a drug sale in 2025. That case is still pending, Tisch said.

More than 300 outraged New Yorkers held a protest at the scene, then marched to New York Presbyterian Allen Hospital, trapping ICE agents inside the building.

Protesters grabbed metal barriers blocking off the street and charged a row of cops before the officers were able to pull the barriers away from them. {snip}

DHS confirmed the wounded man has a prior criminal conviction for grand larceny, and “multiple prior arrests for assault, robbery, possession of drugs, and weapons possession.”

Their target also had “associations to the Trinitarios gang,” DHS said, although they didn’t identify him by name.
