The NYPD last year began citing e-bike sidewalk speeders and scofflaws with criminal summonses, not just traffic citations, precisely to protect pedestrians from this rising urban menace.

Writing traffic tickets for cyclists is a waste of time, Commissioner Jessica Tisch explained, because riders who ignore them face zero consequences.

But the pro-illegal-immigration crowd was furious, because any kind of criminal record could open the door to the feds apprehending and deporting the e-bike scofflaw.

In announcing the end of criminal summonses for e-bike traffic violations, he didn’t mention ICE or deportation, instead offering blather about holding the food apps “accountable” to supposedly confront “the root causes of unsafe e-bike and cycling delivery practices.”
