Mexican Sex Offender Arrested by Border Patrol

United States Customs and Border Patrol, November 18, 2019

U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Sector arrested a previously deported sex offender Saturday evening.

The incident occurred at around 10:37 p.m., when agents assigned to the Calexico Station encountered a man suspected of illegally entering the United States approximately 12 miles east of the Calexico Downtown Port of Entry.  Agents arrested the man and transported him to the El Centro Station for immigration and criminal history screening.

Agents conducted records checks, which revealed that the man was identified as Sergio Cruz-Cabrera, a 32-year-old Mexican national, who was convicted of “Assault with Sexual Motivation” in 2013, out of Clark County, WA.  Cruz was sentenced to 27 months to life imprisonment, to which he served 30 months confinement for his conviction.

Cruz was removed from the United States in 2015 as an aggravated felon.

Cruz is being held in federal custody pending further criminal prosecution.  He is the eighth sex offender apprehended by El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents for fiscal year 2020
