Video: Middle School Teacher Arrested for Punching Neo-Nazi Claims It Was Self-defense

A middle school teacher in Berkeley, Calif., who has been charged with a felony for punching a white nationalist during a demonstration last year claims she was acting in self-defense.

Yvette Felarca, who teaches humanities at the Martin Luther King Jr Middle School, was arrested last month for allegedly punching a man during an far-right rally in Sacramento in June 2016, CBS reported.

The 47-year-old was charged with felony assault by means of force likely to inflict great bodily injury and two misdemeanor counts of inciting and participating in a riot.

“Standing up against fascism and the rise of Nazism and fascism in this country is not a crime. We have the right to defend ourselves,” she said.

Because she has not been convicted of a felony, she is allowed to continue teaching.
