Obama Said to Plan Moves to Shield 5 Million Immigrants

Michael D. Shear et al., New York Times, November 14, 2014

President Obama will ignore angry protests from Republicans and announce as soon as next week a broad overhaul of the nation’s immigration enforcement system that will protect up to five million undocumented immigrants from the threat of deportation and provide many of them with work permits, according to administration officials who have direct knowledge of the plan.

Asserting his authority as president to enforce the nation’s laws with discretion, Mr. Obama intends to order changes that will significantly refocus the activities of the government’s 12,000 immigration agents. One key piece of the order, officials said, will allow many parents of children who are American citizens or legal residents to obtain legal work documents and no longer worry about being discovered, separated from their families and sent away.

That part of Mr. Obama’s plan alone could affect as many as 3.3 million people who have been living in the United States illegally for at least five years, according to an analysis by the Migration Policy Institute, an immigration research organization in Washington. But the White House is also considering a stricter policy that would limit the benefits to people who have lived in the country for at least 10 years, or about 2.5 million people.

Extending protections to more undocumented immigrants who came to the United States as children, and to their parents, could affect an additional one million or more if they are included in the final plan that the president announces.

Mr. Obama’s actions will also expand opportunities for immigrants who have high-tech skills, shift extra security resources to the nation’s southern border, revamp a controversial immigration enforcement program called Secure Communities, and provide clearer guidance to the agencies that enforce immigration laws about who should be a low priority for deportation, especially those with strong family ties and no serious criminal history.

A group of Republicans–led by Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, Senator Mike Lee of Utah and Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama–is already planning to thwart any executive action by the president on immigration. The senators are hoping to rally their fellow Republicans to oppose efforts to pass a budget next month unless it explicitly prohibits the president from enacting what they call “executive amnesty” for people in the country illegally.

“Asserting his authority to enforce the laws at his discretion”, what country am I living in.
He has no authority to enforce of not enforce laws that were passed by congress. He needs to be impeached if he tries this executive action crap again.

Won’t happen. He will do as much damage as possible for the next 2 years. There are plenty of judicial openings to which he can appoint the likes of Kagan, Sotamayor and Darth Vader Ginsburg. Look at his proposed AG, Loretta Lynch a real hater.

If he uses dictatorial power to “pass” this amnesty, we’re done. There will be no way to restore America’s founding stock to any level resembling what a country’s founders and settlers should maintain. I wish I knew how to stand up to this usurper and his cronies, because clearly, voting isn’t working.

I think that the biggest obstacles are the elite are transparent and global so that they live portable lifestyles. The media also makes people like us “weak” through so-called lacking numbers. The middle class has started to wake up to the endless problems as they become aware of the government’s intrusions and slow social destruction.

Look at the razor thin margins of elections around the country and tell me that a million Messicans here and a million Salvadorans there won’t determine who wins just a few years from now.

Democrats are salivating over the prospect of importing or creating millions of new mindless voters.

They realized in 1965 that they needed massive amounts of ignorant or greedy people and the blacks simply weren’t reproducing fast enough. It has always been known that immigrants coming from repressive societies are enamored with a government that is handing out freebies.

    This has to be stopped.

  • I never thought he would have the stones to do something this big with one fell swoop. I always thought he’d do it one salami slice at a time.

Why the hell does an American president care more about the people from a foreign country who shouldn’t be here instead of the people in own country. This won’t be America much longer. Soon we will live in northern Mexico. America being ran by Mexicans will not be a place worth living in. Corrupt government and decapitated bodies swinging from bridges and tin huts for schools and houses. They’ll be trying to escape the America they took over and jump the border to Canada that might still be a little more civilized. I’d like to be able to give Obama a double middle finger salute someday.

“Why the hell does an American president care more about the people from a
foreign country who shouldn’t be here instead of the people in own
country?” You have a tyrannical government at this point who puts a foreigner over a citizen. A philosopher once spoke about oppressive legislation as far back as Ancient Greece,

Romney was an overwhelmingly better option on the basis of this issue alone.

Obama’s ten-point plan includes so many different categories that it looks out of the “11 million” illegals here, only two people will be deported.

    • Uncle Bob

I remember there being “11 million” illegals in the US back in the late 1990s.
Why has that worn out number been used for so long? Are we expected to ignore the new multitudes crossing the border every year for the last decade and a half?Illegals who have been here for a generation likely have children here as well.

Obola must think he’s back in Kenya…..he’s becoming a dictator.

  • BlueEyedDevil

Country didn’t vote the way he wanted and now you must be punished. He won’t have to worry about that after he cancels out our votes. Asshole will grin from ear to ear for the next two years.

This will be the pay-off for all the ‘anchor baby’ activity these last couple decades. The Anchor Baby Redemption Executive Order. Crime pays, will be the message. Who else to deliver that message than a bunch of Chicago gangsters.

The NY Times demonstrates contempt for democracy and the Rule of Law. I wonder if they’d extend their advocacy of anarchy and forced minoritization to the people located in Manhattan.

    • none of your business

White Manhattan is a very small part of NYC. Whites are moving back to Manhattan and blacks are moving out, but NYC as a whole is becoming more and more non White due to Asian, arab and other 5th world immigrants.
