Was Arrested Teen on His Way to Join ISIS?

Mariano Castillo, CNN, October 6, 2014

A teen from the Chicago suburbs was arrested at O’Hare International Airport over the weekend and accused of attempting to provide aid to ISIS, the U.S. attorney’s office for the Northern District of Illinois announced Monday.

Mohammed Hamzah Khan, 19, is charged with one count of attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization.

According to a criminal complaint, a round-trip ticket was purchased for Khan from Chicago to Istanbul.

In an interview with FBI agents and a letter to his parents, Khan indicated that he did not plan to return and was on his way to join ISIS.

Once he crossed security at the airport Saturday, federal agents stopped him and executed a search warrant at his home, where documents expressing support for ISIS and jihadists were recovered, the U.S. attorney’s office said.

The charge he faces carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

In his bedroom, he left a three-page handwritten letter telling his parents that his destination was Syria and warning them not to tell authorities about his trip because it could put his safety in jeopardy, according to the criminal complaint.

In the letter, Khan wrote that there is an obligation to “migrate” to ISIS-controlled territory.

“We are all witness that the Western societies are getting more immoral day by day,” Khan is wrote in the letter, according to the complaint. “I do not want my kids being exposed to filth like this.”

Finally, he asks his family to join him in the “Islamic State.”

During questioning at the airport, Khan waived his Miranda rights and told FBI agents that a person he met online (not identified by name in the court document) had given him the phone number of a person to call once he arrived in Istanbul.

That person, Khan told agents, was to take him to ISIS territory.

  • Let me be the first to display my total shock that a 19-year old Muslim man of Middle Eastern or South Asian racial heritage would want to join ISIS.

I read two stories last week, one from London and the other from Stockholm, about young Muslim women actually leaving or wanting to leave or heavily being recruited to leave those cities to go fight with ISIS. Which only proves that chicks dig the long ball.

    Speaking of ISIS:

    • proud white

funny how everyone wants to fight ISIL BUT we have knee-grows living here and we aren’t doing a damned thing about it.

    • Ron Cheaters

I’ve mentioned it before, but Nova Scotia is desperately trying to attract the worlds garbage. The reason I moved here is going to be destroyed. and the newspapers here are working overtime to destry this once beautiful province. We have no voice, only our racism, and worn-out tolerance.

    • propagandaoftruth

Perhaps Ben Affleck should step up and be the voice of reason.

  • Xerxes22

Typical msn report. No info on what country these people are from or how long they have been in the U.S.. Censorship as usual.

“We are all witness that the Western societies are getting more immoral day by day,”

Boy nature and it’s abhorrence of vacuums…here is your replacement of Christianity lefty’s. Did they think it would be their belief in nothingness?

    • WR_the_realist

Western societies are getting more immoral day by day. The Muzzies nailed that one. But the solution is not to force 13 year old girls into sexual slavery and cut off the heads of your opponents.

    • jayvbellis

The Western immorality he is talking about is…
      And now Islamaphobia!

Under cultural Marxism, the Islamic extremists and homosexual extremists are on the same team!

Some straight White guy who wants to watch the B&W Andy Griffith Show, he’s the bad guy – doesn’t like gays, third world transgender people, or Muslims!

  • Adolf Verloc

There’s a lot to be said for letting these folks go their merry way. It’s a hell of a lot less complicated to kill them overseas. Here they will be just ticking time bombs who sooner or later will conduct a bombing or mass shooting.

  • “I do not want my kids being exposed to filth like this.”

Me and the muzzie have something in common. It’s not people I consider white creating the filth though. If I had an option to leaving this filthy clusterfreak of a country and finding a place of Christian culture, I’d go. But secular humanists and cultural Marxists hold sway over the entire West. There is no place to run, no place to hide.

Let the muzzie go since he had no plans to come back.

I believe that much of the virulent hatred now being directed at Putin is not because he “invaded” Crimea (which voted to join Russia) and not because he has aided the Ukrainian rebels in that nasty civil war (he has since negotiated a cease fire while the U.S. busily tries to arm Kiev so that Ukrainians can kill more Ukrainians). No, I suspect the real source of the animosity is that Putin has been making a genuine effort at restoring the Russian Orthodox Church.

    • jayvbellis

No. He had plans to come back. Muslims are flooding in to White Western countries.and the new Marxist Catholic Pope supports the Muslim immigration invasions.

When do we get an ISIS? We can call it the Alternative Right Traditional European Men’s International Society

Well, I’m sure he’ll love gay marriage being legalized in 6 more states today by the SCOTUS, without even commenting on why.

    • I think the courts were trapped on the gay marriage issue. Since state governments have recognized marriages as being pertinent to things like inheritance and medical decisions, the “equal protection under the law” issue instantly kicks in. It was unavoidable.

      • Christorchaos

To the extent that equal protection means anything useful to our Western society, the justices needed to belly up to the bar and save it from insanity. But they did not.

And the societal consequences are huge. You can survive with 20% black population. Or even 90% as they did in South Africa. But when the family goes, society is toast.

        • Those people are already not part of traditional Western family structure, and never will be, because they are gay.

How?: Western society ↦ traditional Western family structure

  • Truthseeker

Let him go fight for his true nation. And if he tries to return to the U.S., don’t let him back in. He’s nothing but a parasite.

  • MekongDelta69

Maybe NoBama will appoint him the new ISIS Czar.

  • AmericanCitizen

“Mohammed Hamzah Khan, 19, is charged with one count of attempting to
provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization”.

Why hasn’t Obama been charged under this law? He released the 5 Taliban prisoners and admitted they could return to the Jihadi lifestyle. Sounds like providing material support to a foreign terrorist to me.

  • John Smith

If Western societies are so flawed, why do millions of african, asian, m easterners want to come live in them?

  • IstvanIN

Let him go. In fact encourage him and his kin to all go. We shouldn’t be at war with ISIS, or ISIL or whatever they are called this week.

    • I think bombing them is just super. They started beheading folks, and demanded Spain back, so the hell with them. One of the few useful purposes our government has put to our tax money is bombing Muslims.

      • IstvanIN

If the US government wasn’t so big on sticking its nose where it doesn’t belong perhaps ISIS wouldn’t exist. Our government makes more problems than it ever solves.

And they haven’t actually attacked Spain yet. If they do take Spain it is because the elected officials there gave the kingdom away.

        • I think we should bomb them anyway. Islam demands world conquest, and so sorry, I’m not going along with that.

      • Ike Eichenberg

An air-burst over Mecca would probably settle the savages down for a hundred years, if not we can follow up with plan Nagasaki until we run out of targets or U-235.

    • Lagerstrom

Aye. Take their passports and bid them “Bon Voy-agg-ie”!

  • Going to join an organization that is being massively cluster-bombed doesn’t seem like a crash-hot idea to me. I have plenty of complaints about Western society, but really, it is the best thing going. I am certainly not in any hurry to sell my house and leave.

    • Christorchaos

      Not “smart” but maybe “brave”??

      • Beheading the occasional journalist or “immodestly-dressed” woman is hardly what I would call “brave”.

        • Christorchaos

Read your own post: “massively cluster bombed”

          • Bravery to me means staying out of trouble, even when it is easier to be angry. I have a wife and a daughter, and every day I am home for them, instead of rotting in jail is a good, good day.

If idiot-boy wanted to oppose what he described as Western immorality, he could have iced some Hollyweirdos instead of trying to travel to Syria. If someone wasted Tom Cruise or Angelina Jolie and I was later sitting on the jury, I wouldn’t vote to convict, even though they are technically white.

          • Christorchaos

You want him to be a lone assassin in enemy territory, rather than take the battle (as he perceives it) to the battle-front? I do not think you are very good advisor to the young man, sorry.

And on the word “bravery,” whenever MLB, NFL, NBA have pre game ceremonies honoring returning veterans. The word brave is always used.

          • propagandaoftruth

To masterfully cluster bomb where none have masterfully cluster bombed before?

            To double split infinity…

I could go on like this forever. The goblin is innocent of splitting infinitives.

  • Evette Coutier

Actually, the kids is not entirely wrong. Western civilization is becoming more immoral day-by-day. The morality of our current crop of liberals is despicable. However, Islam is replacing one immortality with another.

  • archer

More than likely the personal contact he had was a fbi agent, sounds like another false flag. I don’t doubt the kids intentions though, this is the fallout from changing our immigration laws to let anyone and everyone in regardless of race or culture.

    • Hardly a “false flag”, but a sting instead. FBI agent posts radical Islamist garbage online, and then idiots rise to the bait. If they actually make preparations to carry out a bombing, or to travel overseas to join Al-Qaeda, ISIS or whatever, they’re stuck like chuck.

Local police departments do online stings to catch pedophiles. If Mr. Ped-O-Creep actually makes preparations for a tryst with what he thinks is an underage minor, like going to meet the individual, usually while bringing condoms and booze, it is instantly a prosecutable case.

Another very successful sting operation was “Abscam”, in the early 1980s, which got a bunch of corrupt Washington politicians. The idea was the same: put out obviously illegal bait (bribery money in that case), and the idiots who rose to it got nailed.

These stings are popular with law enforcement agencies because they do not require much paid manpower time to run, and convictions are easy to get. An anti-pedophile sting could easily be operated by a single policewoman with a computer and internet access, pretending to be a 13 year-old girl online; it doesn’t get much cheaper than that.

Big Ben Affleck throwing his libtard weight around with the high priest of Atheismo, God of Atheism…

Was pretty priceless. Two bonerfied self important libtards squawking at each other on national TV. Reminiscent of the Gore Vidal/Norman Mailer spat, except with politics making it more fun.

I’d love to fight Ben Affleck. I think I could kick batman’s butt. Get him all huffy and puffy and righteously wrathful, offer to let him take a free shot to start things off, then come in on him when draws back to throw the haymaker.

    I hate Ben Affleck.

Sam Harris: We should criticize the bad ideas and the people promoting these bad ideas in the Muslim world.
Bill Maher: A poll showed that 90% of Egyptians believe in the death penalty for leaving the religion.
Ben Affleck: That is bad, but we must criticize the people who believe in this idea. Not the majority of the country.
Bill & Sam: 90% is the majority of the country.
    Ben Affleck: That’s racist.
