City Council OKs Resolution Urging Media to Curb ‘Racist, Sexist Slurs’

CBS Los Angeles, March 22, 2012

The City Council has approved a resolution calling on local TV and radio stations to limit any “racist” and “sexist” comments on their broadcasts.

The City Council voted 13-2 to approve the resolution with a motion urging “the management of radio and television stations in Los Angeles to do everything in their power to ensure that their on-air hosts do not use and promote racist and sexist slurs over public airwaves in the City of Los Angeles”.

Councilmen Joe Buscaino and Mitchell Englander cast the two opposing votes to the resolution, which was introduced on Mar. 7 by Councilwoman Jan Perry in response to a the controversy over recent comments by KFI 640 talk radio hosts John Kobylt and Ken Chiampou.

The duo had recently drawn criticism for referring to the late pop singer Whitney Houston as a “crack ho” in February in the wake of her untimely death.

  • And just as AR posted this, the Coroner’s report on Whitney Houston came out.

    What else?  Cocaine.

When John and Ken said “crack ho,” they were half right.

    • Oil Can Harry

No more racial slurs or demeaning terms for women?

If this law were actually enforced the rap stations would have to be shut down!

Unless something drastic happens otherwise, in another two generations the US will be a police state with no open expression of independent thought allowed.

  • Ah, Mexicaliforeigna, the land of beans, fruits and nuts.

Of course not.  And derogatory comments are also totally acceptable about the White women who are the wives of those same White men who are definitely NOT protected under civil rights laws (Eric Holder) and are absolutely NOT protected from media comments that are derogatory or racist.  Or offensive.  See, you have to be one of the protected classes.  White  Women who are married to White men aren’t the sort of “womyn” that are protected.  And they are fodder to be served up any time for a laugh.  By people like Robert Deniro who have produced many half-wit half-breed mulatto spawn but little else.  A much debauched individual with a penchant for black women only.  And he’s naturally a negro-loving, sympathizer, white-privileged idiot who hangs around with left wing assholes who laugh at his disgusting remarks.  AS IF the dark-skinned black hounds he’s been with have been more attractive than the candidates’ wives.  Oneof his black lady’s backside was so huge that if he was normal he’d have been scarred for life.  Good God.

  • On behalf of California, I apologize to the rest of the country for the insanity emanating out of this loony bin. LA is ground zero for the multicultural and diversity zealots. As Rome burns, this is the garbage they waste their time on. It’s truly insane!

Urging is not law. They would have a small problem passing a law banning speech. It’s called the First Amendment.

    • haroldcrews

News outlets live and die by access to policy makers.  This ‘urging’ is an implied threat to cut off access.

    I’m not an American.
Just what is that amendment to your constitution guaranteeing the right to free speech again?

      I wish I knew…

“the resolution, which was introduced on Mar. 7 by Councilwoman Jan Perry in response to a the controversy…”

Oh, wouldn’t jan perry LOVE to lord over the airwaves deciding what constitutes “hate speech” or “racist slurs.”  She would also LOVE to dole out the punishment too, especially to John & Ken who have been criticizing her and calling her out for years.  Punishment = Zyklon B treatment.

For years J & K (AND NO ONE ELSE) have called out and drawn attention to  local and California’s entrenched lefties, those the papers praise and fawn over  —    villar, gray davis, brown, molina, parks, beck– pointing out the outrageous salaries, luxurious offices, expensive “working” vacations and junkets, perks and fat retirement packages these public leeches receive from  broke cities and the state.  John and Ken also specialize in hamming the illegal immigrant issue, the dream act,  driver’s licenses and report on crimes the msm won’t touch (such as the Kelly Thomas beating to death by the cops).

The lefties are upping the ante against them and building up ammunition:

Recently  John & Ken  were suspended for nine days when John called Whitney Houston a ‘crack ho.’

Here’s the quote:  “At some point you’re just sick of it all, and so is everybody else in the industry. All her friends and hangers on, everybody who knew had to deal with her. It’s like, ‘Ah Jesus…here comes the crack ho again, what’s she gonna do? Ah look at that, she’s doin’ handstands next to the pool. Very good, crack ho…’ After a while everybody’s exhausted. And then you find out she’s dead. It’s like, ‘Really? Took this long?'”

Also, this “study” from UCLA  adds fuel to the fire:

A UCLA study, “Quantifying Hate Speech on Commercial Talk Radio,” of broadcast hate speech, included a look at L.A.’s controversial John & Ken Show   The study found that two thirds of hateful statements analyzed targeted undocumented immigrants and Latinos.  “They portray economically disadvantaged blacks and Latinos as inherently violent and undeserving of the public’s support.”

(that last statement is the reason why their audience numbers over one million).

Meanwhile…the execrable maher referred to Sara Palin by the “c” word, called her a ‘dumb t***’ and has called Palin and Bachmann “bimbos.” Maher made a “joke” about Rick Santorum’s wife and a vibrator and all is well — especially after maher donated $1 million to a pro-Obama super PAC.

Imagine Maher saying any of the above about Michelle Obama.

    Bon

  • Is calling a white person a racist, anti-semite, or sexist also considered a slur?
