New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker, police chief Karl Jacobson, and the victim’s family held a news conference for Thursday morning to talk about the latest developments in the case.
They were at The Shack on Valley Street at 11:15 a.m. Vazquez was said to have been a frequent visitor of the business.
The shooting happened at the intersection of Valley Street and Harper Avenue in New Haven on Dec. 19, 2022 just after 4:20 p.m.
According to police, Vazquez had just left a convenience store when that store’s video surveillance caught a black SUV approach the teen. Someone inside the vehicle shot him.
Police said Gibson’s mother was driving the car when her son fired off the deadly shots.
