The Limits of Latin American Democracy
Kevin DeAnna, American Renaissance, October 26, 2026
Despite the myth of multiracial harmony, race has always been decisive in Latin American politics. That reality is now on full display in Brazil’s regional tensions and what appears to be a stolen election. Deeper structural incentives work against any genuine change: there is a permanent interest in keeping populations poor, dependent, and useful only as vote banks and left-wing shock troops. This is why the region must move past “democracy.” Brazil shows that even a clear victory means nothing if the regime can simply rewrite the rules. And as El Salvador shows, even clear popular support will still be branded authoritarian by those who hold real power.
