ICE Detention Reported at Lower Manhattan ER as Immigration Enforcement Surges in NYC

An ICE vehicle pulled into New York Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital Sunday after an eyewitness said she saw a man detained in the ER.

At around 1:50 p.m. on Aug. 2, a young woman was visiting her friend in the emergency room at the hospital, located at 83 Gold St., when she told amNewYork that she saw masked ICE agents with the detained man.

Meanwhile, security guards for the hospital became strangely irritated with members of the media standing on the sidewalk outside, even going as far as to call 911. However, when police arrived, they explained to staff that they could not legally move the journalists.

Later that afternoon two vehicles that immigration rights activists believe to be DHS vehicles sped away from the hospital, chased by activists who blew whistles and screamed, “These are ICE vehicles!” while pointing. Although they sped away without incident, they continued to loop around the hospital throughout the afternoon.

ICE agents, in the meantime, had parked one of their vehicles in the ambulance bay at the hospital, where protestors punched and kicked it. It is believed this was a distraction as agents removed the man from another exit, put him in a different vehicle as both vehicles drove away.
