NASCAR Criticized Over Apparent Discrimination in Diversity Internship

An internship program from NASCAR has been criticized for seemingly discriminating against white people, with one college professor arguing that the program is illegal.

The program, titled NASCAR Diversity Internship Program, is a paid internship that gives college students mentorship in the racing industry. Applicants are required to meet multiple requirements, one of which is being a member of one or more ethnicities, with white or Caucasian absent from the list.

NASCAR is also offering a program titled “Drive for Diversity,” which helps train “minority and female” recruits to either become a driver or a pit crew member. In the program’s list of requirements, an applicant must be either a woman or a member of one or multiple “ethnic minority classifications.”
