A local police reform activist arrested Wednesday is accused of leaving her children in a home full of feces on the ground and more.
Jourdyn Parks, 29, was arrested when a neighbor called deputies saying she had left her children home alone. The children are ages eight and two.
According to Sheriff Javier Salazar, this was the third time his deputies had been called to Parks’ home.

The third time was Wednesday. This caller, though unclear if it’s the same person, also alleged Parks would “leave the children alone all day” while out protesting. The caller also said the children were given medicine to make them sleep while she was gone.

Deputies say they were soon able to get in through the back door, which was unlocked, and found “deplorable conditions.”
“Feces, excrement on the floor, human, they believed it to be human, there was no animals in the house that they could see,” Sheriff Javier Salazar said. “There was old food with insects flying around and not a whole lot of what you consider wholesome food, what you want these kids to eat. It was a lot of old food wrappers that were gathering insects.”

The girl allegedly told deputies her mother had gone to a Black Lives Matter meeting.
