Customs and Border Patrol, January 8, 2020
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Progreso International Bridge intercepted a load of heroin and methamphetamine. CBP officers discovered the narcotics, with a combined value of approximately $3,040,647, hidden within a 1997 Ford F-150 pick-up.
“Our officers did a fantastic job in intercepting these dangerous narcotics,” said Port Director Walter Weaver, Progreso Port of Entry. “I am proud of our officers and their dedication to the CBP mission of keeping our borders secure. Thanks to them, these drugs are off our streets.”
The seizure took place on Monday, Jan. 6, at Progreso International Bridge when a 25-year-old male United States citizen applied for entry into the United States driving a 1997 Ford F-150 pick-up. The vehicle was referred to CBP secondary for further examination after a primary inspection. With the aid of a non-intrusive imaging system and canine unit, CBP officers discovered multiple packages hidden within the vehicle. CBP officers removed the packages, which contained a total of 18.12 pounds of alleged heroin in 7 packages and 131.48 pounds of alleged methamphetamine in 110 packages.
The estimated street value of the narcotics from the seizure is approximately $411,000 in heroin and $2,629,647 in methamphetamine.
CBP officers seized the narcotics along with the vehicle, arrested the driver and turned him over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents for further investigation.
