Families Reeling After Weekend Shooting Kills 2 at Carencro Apartment

One fatally struck 20-year-old Adam Williamson. Another killed Wiltz, who had stood in front of Barnes and her friend when the gun went off.

“He did it before the rest of us could think of anything else. He’s in the (Army National Guard) so he reacted the only way he knew how to,” Barnes said.

[Dustin] Wiltz and Williamson were killed at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the French Colony apartment complex, according to the Carencro Police Department.

Carencro Police Chief David Anderson said his officers — one of whom lives at the apartment complex — arrived at the scene in under a minute.

Jeremy Edwards is charged with two counts of murder, armed robbery, theft of a vehicle, possession of a firearm, flight from an officer and operating vehicle with suspended license.

Carencro police arrested the suspected shooter, 20-year-old Jeremy Edwards, the same night after they say he stole a vehicle, fled from police, and crashed into a tree on Acorn Drive, where he was taken into custody.

Edwards was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Facility on charges of armed robbery, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of firearm by a convicted felon, aggravated flight, driving under suspension, and two counts of first-degree murder.
