Whenever the media mentioned the Unite the Right 2 rally of last Sunday, it was invariably a “white supremacist rally.” The organizer, Jason Kessler explained over and over that he was marching for “civil rights,” and that he wanted dialogue with all sides. This idea failed to penetrate the minds of his interviewers.
Mr. Kessler was joined at the rally by two Hispanics and one black. A black and a Hispanic were among the speakers, and stressed the importance of civil rights for all. Mr. Kessler had them at the front of his small group of demonstrators, as can be seen in the photograph below, but for the most part, the media were careful not to show them. It would have spoiled a good story about “white supremacy.”
