Sheriff Clarke: To Curb Violence, Obama Must Target ‘Underclass, Young Black Male’ Involved in Crime–But He Won’t

Michael W. Chapman, CNS News, March 14, 2016

In reaction to President Barack Obama’s executive actions in January to expand gun control, Milwaukee County Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. said the way “to reduce violence” is to “target criminals,” but Obama does not want to target those who are disproportionately involved in gun violence, specifically “the underclass, young black male.”

On Fox’s Hannity program, Sheriff Clarke said, “If you want to reduce violence–and the president knows this–you target criminals.”

“You do not target otherwise law-abiding citizens,” he said, “and you don’t make them have to go jump through hoops in a higher threshold to exercise their Second Amendment rights.”

Sheriff Clarke continued, “But Sean, if he [Obama] goes after the real perpetrators of violence in America, he would have to target the underclass, young black male who disproportionately is involved in this violence. And he doesn’t want to do that.”
