Student Gov’t Rep Removed from Office over Opposition to in-State Tuition for Illegal Immigrants

Glori Foster, Campus Reform, February 24, 2015

A former student representative at George Mason University was removed from his position after tweeting about “illegals” receiving in-state college tuition which was perceived as offensive by some students.

Storm Paglia became the undersecretary for university dining services last May and on Feb. 13 tweeted his disapproval of the Virginia Senate and House allowing “illegals” to have “in state tuition with an easier process than if I were to apply.”

“And the next time someone tells me the word ILLEGAL is inappropriate please enlighten me on how they haven’t broken our country’s laws,” Paglia continued in a separate tweet.

GMU’s student body president, Philip Abbruscato, released official message on Sunday boasting of the school’s “thousands of unique voices” and the student government’s “variety of backgrounds, cultures, ideologies, academic interests, and more.”

Abbruscato also said that “demeaning” remarks from members of GMU’s student government would “not be tolerated at any level regardless of belief,” and removed Paglia from his position on Feb., 20.

“While we all live in a society that permits us to express our opinions, we must also recognize that we live with the consequences of their impact on those we represent,” Abbruscato said.

Hearing about “tweets” keeps reminding me about the Angry Birds vs. the Bad Piggies.

Seems to me the bad piggies keep winning.

While I’ve heard this type of malarkey from academics before, I never get used to the stupidity of it all.

    • RebelliousTreecko

It’s how lefties repress free speech while claiming that we still have it.

“You are free to make hateful statements against North Korea’s government, but you aren’t free from the consequences of your speech. People have the freedom to arrest you or fire you for your speech.”

Here in the U.S., the government might not be able to arrest you, but you can still get fired, fined, and made an outcast for your views. How is that protection of unpopular views?

  • superlloyd

Hypocrisy and irony would be lost on this cultural marxist drone Abbruscato as well as an objective appraisal of the reality of criminals being pandered to through their brown privilege.

  • dd121

This is how leftists treat their opposition now. What happens if they get total control?

    • WR_the_realist

      The gulags return.

      • dd121

I think you’re right. They got darkskins primed to hate whites, I think they’re going to somehow enable open season on whites.

    • LHathaway

That’s like saying, ‘we have to remain vigilant, the government could take over’.

      • dd121

I’m saying that if they have total control, they won’t mind sending some of us to the wall. Just don’t let the marxists take your guns in the mean time.

        • LHathaway

right we have to take care, or the government could take total control.

Except, one who takes immigration law serious is not allowed to be part of this variety.

  • IstvanIN

He said nothing demeaning, simply stated his opinion.

What an incredible contradiction in terms, but no doubt this loony thinks its profound and intelligent. People like this person have zero critical thinking skills, in my opinion, for them to spout such nonsense as this, and truly believe it.

  • Luca

Hurting someone’s feelings is not tolerated. But breaking the law and getting an unearned benefit is perfectly fine.

  • Race Heretic

If he tweeted, “Ugh I hate these damn wetbacks being giving everything for nothing!” then sure, that would be hateful and demeaning. They’re just butthurt because the word “illegal” accurately describes the nature of their immigration, and they don’t want to face reality.

Yes, we know — express hatred of white people, and you can keep you job or your university position. Oppose illegal immigration, and you get fired.

  • MekongDelta69

I’m ‘offended‘ by this black muslim Marxist Dictator and his entire totalitarian regime, along with every leftist on the planet.

If I whine like a butt-hurt 9 y/o and stamp my feet, can I send them all to Mars too?!

The left are babies. The problem is, almost everybody else has been caving in to them for 50 years. Just slam the top of the cookie jar on their hands once or twice and they’ll stop doing it.

    • Zimriel

We’ve seen the Left’s “Plan B”; it is to squeal for mercy when the other side defeats them. This was noticed and mocked in “The Shortest Way With The Dissenters”.

  • LHathaway

    “thousands of unique voices”

Yet none of them White. Certainly not speaking for Whites. I’d be shocked if they had one white student union or one white racial group of any kind even affiliated with the school, even one, something they have numerous of, by the way, perhaps hundreds of groups affiliated with the university for every race but whites, even as they claim they are desperately promoting diversity no matter the cost . . .

    • John Smith

Not all voices are of equal value, no matter what progressives pretend.

  • MBlanc46

Kiss of death, Storm. Surely you knew this would happen.

  • Mahtoofislooth

He should have known better than to voice opposition to the Party.

Yes, there are consequences for telling the truth in what used to America.

  • Pat Kittle

Illegally illegal illegals illegally try to make it illegal to call illegally illegal illegals illegal.

    Hope that doesn’t offend anyone.

  • A Freespeechzone

Apparently Freedom of Speech and thought are no longer compatible with college; further advancing the likelihood that the Constitution of the United States will not survive.

Colleges have become brainwashing institutions and not an institution to encourage free thinking and innovation–only absolute compliance to the master–government.

    Where are the Patriots?
