AirAsia Captain Left Seat Before Jet Lost Control: Sources

Siva Govindasamy, Reuters, January 31, 2015

The captain of the AirAsia jet that crashed into the sea in December was out of his seat conducting an unusual procedure when his co-pilot apparently lost control, and by the time he returned it was too late to save the plane, two people familiar with the investigation said.

Details emerging of the final moments of Flight QZ8501 are likely to focus attention partly on maintenance, procedures and training, though Indonesian officials have not ruled out any cause and stress it is too early to draw firm conclusions.

The Airbus A320 jet plunged into the Java Sea while en route from Surabaya, Indonesia, to Singapore on Dec. 28, killing all 162 people on board.

People familiar with the matter said earlier this week that investigators were examining maintenance records of one of the automated systems, the Flight Augmentation Computer (FAC), and the way the pilots reacted to any outage.

One person familiar with the matter said the captain had flown on the same plane with the intermittently faulty device days earlier. There was no independent confirmation of this.

After trying to reset this device, pilots pulled a circuit-breaker to cut its power, Bloomberg News reported on Friday.

People familiar with the matter said it was the Indonesian captain Iriyanto who took this step, rather than his less experienced French co-pilot Remy Plesel, who was flying the plane.

Experts say the loss of the FAC would not directly alter the trajectory of the aircraft but would remove flight envelope protection, which prevents a pilot from taking a plane beyond its safety limits, and require the crew to fly it manually.

The decision to cut off the FAC has surprised people following the investigation because the usual procedure for resetting it is to press a button on the overhead panel.

Shortly afterwards the plane went into a sharp climb from which investigators have said it stalled or lost lift.

“It appears he (the co-pilot) was surprised or startled by this,” said a person familiar with the investigation, referring to the decision to cut power to the affected computer.

The captain eventually resumed the controls, but a person familiar with the matter said he was not in a position to intervene immediately to recover the aircraft from its upset.

“The co-pilot pulled the plane up, and by the time the captain regained the controls it was too late,” one of the people familiar with the investigation said.

{snip}

Lawyers for the family of the French co-pilot say they have filed a lawsuit against AirAsia in Paris for “endangering the lives of others” by flying the route without official authorization on that day. Investigators have said the accident was not related to the permit issue.

Remember what I keep saying about “acceptable losses”? It does NOT matter to the Powers That Be if a large number of lives are lost, or millions of dollars of equipment is ruined.
ALL that matters is diversity, at ANY cost.

    • AndrewInterrupted

      Praise the diversity Allah.

      • D.B. Cooper

I usually use the term “golden calf”. It makes more sense.

        • cjkcjk

I prefer Satan because it’s even more descriptive and accurate.
It could be argued they are the same though.

Allah and Satan? You know it, brother.

        • gemjunior

I’m surprised your comment isn’t being removed, actually, for your reference to the “golden calf” – it might remind people about who danced around it and we can’t have that….

    • A Freespeechzone

Don’t forget that they want to put unqualified minorities (blacks) into control towers as air traffic controllers in the USA to meet ‘diversity’ requirements…..

These ‘diversity’ hirees have very questionable educational and emotional backgrounds……

Just wait until these folks are directing air traffic in the sky……air travel will become riskier…

      • A couple of pissed off blacks in a control tower can do us a lot more damage than Al Qaida and ISIS combined!

        • TL2014

They don’t need to be pissed off to do a lot of damage.

Air Traffic Controllers will resemble many big city 911 dispatchers.

        They’ve been doing so for 40 years . . . hello.

          Yes they have. Now let’s examine their record; this from last year’s Wall Street Journal;
          www[dot]wsj[dot]com/articles/SB10001424052702304887104579302904075115882

Africa has just 3% of global air traffic, yet manages to rack up 20% of the disasters. Maybe it’s because they let passengers bring crocodiles on board.

          • B.A_2014

The pilot’s and air traffic controllers are clearly suffering stress due to racism and sheet.

More affirmative action at work. This time it resulted in the death of 162 people.

    • D.B. Cooper

So what? As long as AirAsia has black and Asian pilots, all if good. This plane crashed because of white racism, haven’t you learned anything yet?

      • Yeah, Asians driving cars; blacks flying planes. What could go wrong?

      • Alucard_the_last

If you believe the Afro-centrists, you’ll find that they use to fly. I have to admit, I invented gravity to hold them down.

Needless to say, the gay community was silent over this. One can say anything negative about gays and not get a rebuttal unless they one’s making the statement is white. The gay’s have nothing to say about isis throwing gay men off of cliffs.

Has affirmative action spread to Asia? That’s news to me.

      • Tim_in_Indiana

“Affirmative action” is being used as a catch-all term to mean “hiring for the purpose of political correctness.”

They’re catching the western diversity disease. It’s already killed more people than small pox.

  • Affirmative action kills!

    • Ronald

You may be right. As the Government more and more takes control of the once great American medical industry for the purpose of effecting social “diversity”, it seems inescapable that more and more patients will be victim of medical “mistakes” resulting from the medical personnel assigned to them. Any resistance to “the program” is likely to raise the ire of the IRS.

It took a long time to get the basic facts of the crash on the table. But now we have the a clear picture of who crashed the plane. Knowing this, it’s just not that complicated.

      • Americaandthewestshouldbewhite

Have you watched the new Denzel Washington movie ‘The Equalizer’. In it he is a negro hero that fights against the evil White Russian and white criminals and saves a white russian girl from russian sex slave trade and his fellow workers at Home mart who are black and hispanic from the evil white man. The movie is a complete piece of filth.

        • JInSanD

Have you seen Taken 3? Liam Neeson fights Russian mobsters in Los Angeles instead of maybe a black or Mexican gang or muslim terrorists while he’s on the run from the screwup cops. But super cool Forrest Whitaker is the police detective who’s always right there correctly anticipating Liam’s next move.

Have you seen John Wick? Keanu Reeves fights Russian mobsters in NJ instead of a black or hispanic gang or muslim terrorists. I suppose we’re just lucky it wasn’t the mafia again.

          • Itooktheredpill

I literally just saw both these movies the last couple days. Had the same exact thoughts. The propaganda is so obvious to anyone with half a brain. Unfortunately thats pretty rare these days.

          • Lt. Greyman, NVA

You guys are complaining about all the “Russian are evil” references in movies? Its even harder when you are making a picture here in the USA. It is very hard to get Whites in USA to fight Russians but we must have war if White race is to be eliminated. My Rabbi told me so.

        • kenfrombayside

Thank you. “The Equalizer” is nothing more than anti-propaganda. I glad someone else noticed.

          • Americaandthewestshouldbewhite

You’re welcome. It is made to look like the negro is a strong honorable man and the white race a degenerate criminal race that needs punishing by the negro. The Hollywood Semites do love pushing the negro is good agenda on us. They forget to mention that the Russian mafia is mostly headed by Semites. Various plots in the movie ended abruptly or had no sensible ending. A good example if how he managed to get the entire mafia into the refrigerating unit by himself. They never explained that

Indonesia doesn’t have affirmative action, so why did they do this unless it was a calculated risk to save money?

        • Because Obama is from Indonesia, and he was angry at how the Asian kids treated him in school. He demanded that the Indonesian people end their racist ways.

  • Americaandthewestshouldbewhite

A lot of those fliers were half breeds and octaroons.

  • ckmariner

Now this explains a lot. Last year when I flew to the Philly airport, a pilot was black and I was nervous, not just for that flight, but for my future flights infected with inferior affirmative action black hires. I literally fly less now because of affirmative action hiring of black pilots and air traffic controllers.

    • Anglo

Me too. I won’t fly unless really necessary.

  • Americaandthewestshouldbewhite

This story shows that affirmative action hires are not only a danger to others, but also to themsleves.

  • Americaandthewestshouldbewhite

I do not think I have had negro piloting any aircrafts I have flown in. I have had negro and negresses as stewards.

  • nignogger

I hope this would serve a lesson for other air carriers who want to hire lower IQ negroids and relax the passing flying standards/academics in order to promote Marxist racial mixing. Putting this lower IQ race of man on such complex flying machine is a joke, and 162 innocent people lost their lives for it. I hope this carrier goes bankrupt after a large judgement, then others will think twice on putting negroes in flight control positions.

    • Maximo Partagas

A lesson, are you kidding, the liberal one-worlders will double down on affirmative action and diversity hiring. A few deaths, a few million $$ lost nothing compared to a one-world utopia.

    • We can only hope, that SOME common sense gets through and people see the obvious.

  • ckmariner

And wasn’t it a black quarterback who made the dumb play and lost the super bowl? It has long been known that few Blacks are quarterbacks because they don’t have the intelligence for it.

    • Michael Samuel

It was the Seattle coach to blame they had it in the bag! until the coach made the wrong call!

      • libertarian1234

Some are claiming the quarterback called an audible and the original play was for running the ball.

I can’t imagine a coach deciding to pass in a situation like that, but it fits right in with black thinking.

        • Charles Martel

Nonsense! Seattle was in a 3 wideout formation. They were NOT going to run the ball from that set. It’s the coaches’ (Pete Carroll & the Offensice Coordinator’s) fault.

          • libertarian1234

I didn’t see the game….I quit watching years ago…….so I don’t know what formation was originally set, but I still can’t imagine a coach calling a pass play.

It seems odd the coach would have them set up in what the opposition would perceive to be a pass play telegraphing his intent.

But I can imagine a black quarterback thinking he knows better than everybody else doing it.

If the coach called the play then I’m inclined to believe he’s been around blacks so long he’s thinking like them. If it were the offensive coordinator I’d have to wonder if he were black.

To blacks no sense makes sense.

            Something’s not adding up here.

But I’m wondering if any white pilots ever lost control of a plane while it was cruising and wasn’t able to keep it from diving.

I know a few years ago blacks in South Africa were being given training to be pilots by white instructors. One of them who was described as a repeat failure trainee forgot to drop his wheels before landing and crashed. Another had problems in the air and had to eject his fighter aircraft, but didn’t hit the canopy release before he ejected. I’m not sure, but I think he wound up as a black spot on the inner roof of his canopy. Another failed his tests several times, but because of PC he was allowed to keep trying. He was killed when his plane crashed.

The black defense minister said the incidents were due to racism.

I don’t think the race of the co-pilot had anything to do with this tragedy. Seeing that Air Asia is a Malaysian based airline, my thoughts are this flight was in trouble from the start. Let’s see: one Malaysian airliner has disappeared, one has been shot down, this one was having very strange problems with its flight control computer.

I’m thinking Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Commission. Madmen are in charge.

  • KenelmDigby

Honestly, I would have thought that an Asian airline would never ever had employed a black man as a pilot, no matter what the black man’s qualifications and experience were.
I always thought that Asians were very astute and unabashed about this sort of thing.

    • AndrewInterrupted

They probably came under recent pressure by the multi-culti demons to dumb down their workforce. No one will be allowed to escape the cultural Marxist grip.

    • Nimadan

The globalists are putting heavy pressure on local Asian elites to get on board
with the agenda if they want to reap the profits of globalization. Worldwide racial integration is one of the major planks of the globalist agenda along with gay rights, population control, and state control of child-raising.

There are now something like a half-million black Africans in China. The resulting mutts, so-called “Blasians”, are being celebrated in the mass media in several Asian countries. I hear different things about the status of blacks in Japan but there IS beginning to be a phenomenon of Japanese women deliberately seeking out-of-wedlock children with White fathers. While this may please White male egos, it is at the same time a symptom of profound social decay.

  • Richard Roelofsen

I don’t see the relevance in this tragic incident being used to show what? Black incompetence? Indonesian incompetence? South Asian incompetence? I can give you a list of numerous incidents where pilots made blunders and errors that were far more serious than this. The Tenerife airport disaster is the deadliest accident in the history of aviation. It was caused by the arrogance a senior captain KLM who took off without getting clearance. That little incident caused the death of 583 people.
Or how about Flight 447 Air France crash in the Atlantic Ocean. The pilots made numerous blunders with a brand new A330, causing it to stall and then crash. I wonder if amren reported this incident which occurred not so long ago (summer of 2009).

I believe amren is valuable and I especially like the analysis, book reviews and other contributions from the amren staff, however these type of articles (including the comments from people who have no knowledge of, in this case, the aviation industry) seem not too valuable.

I have worked with numerous airliners throughout my career and can say that some of the whitest were the worst (Eastern European), whereas some of the black flag carriers were very impressive (Kenya Airways and especially Ethiopian Airlines). I’ve had plenty of discussions with aviation industry experts from Boeing, ICAO, NTSB, FAA, OAG and others about Ethiopian Airlines and the airline industry in emerging countries in general. This flag carrier is about to become the biggest in Africa (overtaking ‘white’ South African Airways), it has it’s own pilot school and aviation maintenance school (which trains not only Ethiopian pilots and technicians, but also foreigners and is FAA accredited), a young and expanding fleet, it has joined Star Alliance, and it makes a healthy profit. More than six million passengers fly Ethiopian annually and that number is growing. If I were to travel to the Middle East from Europe, I would prefer Ethiopian Airlines with it’s Ethiopian (and thus black pilots) anytime over Aeroflop, or many other Eastern European airliners with their white pilots.

    • IstvanIN

You make valid and excellent points. Please remember, however, random examples of black competence or random examples of White incompetence do not negate the simple fact that black societies are far more likely to be failed societies than White societies.

      • 4321realist

        Exactly.

    • 4321realist

What this story tells us mostly is that this is very likely a case of an airline hiring an unqualified black due to political correctness. None of the remarks state or imply that there are not white mishaps, but that has no bearing on rampant black incompetence.

Also pointing out that you know of cases where blacks aren’t incompetent doesn’t negate the fact that blacks are put in positions due to black privilege and the results, more often than not, amount to a disaster. Nor does it mean your examples are not exceptions….which they certainly are.

And examples of black incompetence occur so often I don’t think it’s out of line for people to react with disdain over this incident and be hypercritical.

      • Richard Roelofsen

‘What this story tells us mostly is that this is very likely a case of an
airline hiring an unqualified black due to political correctness.’

Political correctness? How do you get that idea? Where in the story does it indicate that this copilot was accepted due to political correctness? Remember we are talking about Malaysia here not the US. If it were an American airliner I would have understood and shared your assumption, but in a semi third world country in South East Asia where there are hardly any blacks, they don’t have to show any leniency to this group fearing they would cry racism and send some Sharpton type of leech threatening them with a boycott.
The reason he was accepted was most likely due to the economic growth of countries like Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and others in that region, which has resulted in a rise in demand of cheap airline flights. Asia is currently one of the fastest growing regions in the aviation industry. These budget airliners have a shortage of pilots and will take on any pilot from anywhere in the world, regardless of experience. That is why an inexperienced black pilot from France is co-pilot on a Malaysian flight. And don’t forget that the Indonesian pilot probably made an error too (we’ll have to wait for the final report of the Indonesian investigative board). Strangely enough there is little mentioning of this Indonesian incompetence.

“If I were to travel to the Middle East from Europe, I would prefer Ethiopian Airlines with it’s Ethiopian (and thus black pilots) anytime over Aeroflop, or many other Eastern European airliners with their white pilots.”
I don’t believe a word of what you’re saying, especially about Eastern European pilots, since those countries you’re referring to have a proven historical track record of turning out excellent pilots in both war time and peace.
And if your black airlines are excellent, it’s a first for any of the countries they represent to be excellent in anything, because they give example after example of sub-standard proficiency in anything they do of an intellectual nature.
In checking your past posts I find there are none. This is the only post you’ve made under the above name, which indicates you’re probably a troll whose purpose is to do as leftists always do which is to inanely promote all things black by citing false examples or making invalid claims.
It is delusional people like you who promote all things black and all things of a rabid leftist nature who will lie, steal and obfuscate anything you deem will promote your idea of a rainbow utopia, although, to a man, you’re all dangerous and detrimental to any nation you occupy.

      • Richard Roelofsen

Mr. guest, you don’t have to take my word for it as I could care less. How about the officials from the FAA, Boeing, OAG and pilots and technicians from other airlines. All of these aviation experts were very positive about Ethiopian Airlines on numerous and separate occasions. Should we have trust in their expertise or some anonymous individual who has not shown to have any knowledge about the airline industry whatsoever.
If you want to believe that I’m a troll then that is up to you. I do not consider myself a ‘white nationalist’, but a Dutch Nationalist. I don’t believe a Romanian should become a Dutch citizen anymore than a Moroccan should. And if that makes me a leftist in your confined view than so be it. The irony of people like you calling me delusional and dangerous while we have dozens of commentators here on this site, openly calling for either ethnic cleansing, violence, or a separate ‘homeland’ for whites in North America can not be understated. Good luck with that.

        • BlueSonicStreak

I would agree with you about violence and ethnic cleansing; but you must be suppressing some intense cognitive dissonance to have the hypocrisy to scorn a white homeland in North America while simultaneously calling yourself a Dutch Nationalist.

  • Speedy Steve

I heard the plane was climbing at 6000 feet per minute.

  • Alucard_the_last

You are the source of stupidity.

  • MooTieFighter

AirAsia uses quota’s too? Destroying civilizations and lives everywhere.

  • 4321realist

You’re right, but the leftist dregs would NEVER agree to that. They want to create the impression that there’s no difference in anybody including the sexes as part of their sick delusional idea that everybody is the same. They bend to the whims of almost every flaky, kooky, oddball group in the country even though they know full well what they’re doing is wrong-headed and silly.

Also putting homosexuals in barracks with normal men who they shower and sleep with and who they find sexually attractive is another sick scheme. Isn’t it strange they don’t apply the same standards to everybody and still mandate that men and women do not shower together and sleep in the same area?

Feminists and homosexuals are mentally disturbed people who should be on the outer margins of society, because they deteriorate our culture in almost every way.

You can bet Russia, Iran, North Korea, or China doesn’t follow the same silly policies. And it is Russia and China that will dominate the world as we get further into the 21st Century.

The US has been the 800 pound gorilla militarily compared to other countries up till now.. But the others are catching up now…… VERY FAST…….. so let’s see what transpires with the new politically correct military from this point forward.

    • Isn’t it strange they don’t apply the same standards to everybody and still mandate that men and women do not shower together and sleep in the same area?

Obviously you’ve never heard of World War T.

      • 4321realist

I’ve heard of it o.k., but I regard them as an “it,” not a he or she.

To me they’re no more than cardboard cut-outs to be ignored.

According to latest CDC figures, homosexuals are 1.6% of the population, and since T’s are even fewer there can’t be many of them.

It is the media as usual that promotes their agenda making it appear as if they’re in the majority and we’re bystanders whose opinion on anything doesn’t count.

    • You wrote:

Isn’t it strange they don’t apply the same standards to everybody and still mandate that men and women do not shower together and sleep in the same area?

      I respond:

Haven’t you ever heard of World War T?

  • BlueSonicStreak

    Gee, wonder why!

Don’t many, many female soldiers bluntly admit from personal experience that women aren’t physically capable of many combat positions? Isn’t it true that only a small fraction of surveyed female soldiers even want combat roles?

    Who is pushing for this?

    • Butch lesbians. That was the driving energy behind the repeal of DADT. Other than the Navy, which has a lot of gay men, homosexuality and military service is a way bigger deal to butch lesbian women.

      • Richard Roelofsen

Don’t ask don’t tell was an excellent policy that most people in and out the US military could live with. What a shame that this homosexual agenda is being propagated around the world with such determination. I’m ashamed that my country (The Netherlands) was the first in the world to have gay marriage. Virtually all parties (including Geert Wilders’ Freedom Party) support this and even believe we have some moral responsibility to promote this agenda around the globe since we were the first ‘Pioneers’ in this race to the bottom (no pun intended). Accepting homosexuality as normal is a sign of moral decadence and vulgarity taking over a nation.

  • 4321realist

That’s the same post you made above.

And it’s no more believable than it was the first time.

Incidentally, on the above post I noticed you gave yourself 8 “up” votes., but the one down here only one.

Did you like it less the second time around?

    Hahahahahahha!

    • Richard Roelofsen

No actually I decided to make a disqus account, whereas this post was made just using my email (you can ask the moderator if you wish). If it’s not believable you should try and refute my reply to your comment, which made very little sense (assuming Malaysian airliners have a PC policy towards blacks that is). Good luck with that.
