Kanye West Explains Those Confederate Flag Concert Shirts

Julee Wilson, Huffington Post, October 29, 2013

If you haven’t already heard, Kanye West is selling “Yeezus” Tour t-shirts emblazoned with the confederate flag. While we’re not shocked by this controversial move–we’re also not amused.

Nevertheless, we’ve been patiently waiting for the outspoken star to explain why he decided to use the historically racist symbol for his Wes Lang designed concert merch.

That moment came during an interview at Los Angeles’ 97.1 AMP radio station on Monday. The “Blood On The Leaves” rapper shared his thoughts on the backlash he’s getting about the products and his aim to reappropriate the flag.

“React how you want. Any energy you got is good energy. You know the confederate flag represented slavery in a way–that’s my abstract take on what I know about it. So I made the song ‘New Slaves.’ So I took the Confederate flag and made it my flag. It’s my flag now. Now what are you going to do?”

Well, there’s not much we can do. Kanye isn’t only selling these items at his concerts–the 36-year-old star also just opened a pop-up shop in L.A. filled with his Confederate flag gear.

“I just think people look cool in it. They look nice. And it’s colorless also,” Kanye told Los Angeles 97.1 AMP. “It’s super hood and super white boy approved at the same time. That’s really what my style has always been.”

  • “It’s my flag now.”

    Oh no it’s not.

    • So CAL Snowman

      Best. Flag. Ever.

    • RisingReich

Again, wouldn’t change a thing. Love it.

    • Paleoconn

You go to battle with a flag like that, the enemy scurries away. Not like the Stars and Stripes which conveys weakness and decadence.

      Your flag is pure.

      • BTW, it might be the ideal Disqus or other web avatar/AVI for someone who is both of German ancestry and in the South and pro-Dixie. You can find German ancestry in the South mainly in a belt stretching from the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia down to the North Carolina and South Carolina piedmont, and in central Texas hill country, and some patches in and around Memphis (there is a Memphis suburb called Germantown that is unfortunately anything but these days). I made this, admittedly it didn’t take long nor did it take much skill, but I’m not copywronging it.

        • Paleoconn

I bet a lot of these poor Germans fought valiantly against the Axis in WW2. What a waste. I wish all patriots well despite the errors of their ancestors who did not know better, but whose descendants now realize the red-white-and-blue is nothing but a globalist sham that sold its own people down the river.

  • Alexandra1973

Then back to the plantation with you, Kanye!

Honestly that guy is such a jerk….

    • bigone4u

Agreed, but I can’t decide whether he would be a better field hand or a house servant. Oh, I can think of a stronger word than “jerk” to describe him though.

      • Alexandra1973

        I’m being nice.

    • dd121

They deleted my enlightened comment about whipping him senseless. Don’t know why?

    • mobilebay

Never saw this person perform, but he’s sure scary looking. Can anyone tell me what he’s so angry about? He’s always scowling. And why does he call himself “Yeezus.” Surely he isn’t comparing himself to Jesus? I did see him years ago as he interruped some award show and embarrased himself by confronting Taylor Swift. Never heard of him before that and have ignored him ever since.

  • Jack Burton

    “the historically racist symbol”

So is the US flag, in fact it was a “racist symbol” before the Confederate flag was.

Kanye is a moron, like a typical Negro he says and does stupid things all the time.

    • CoweringCoward

Looks at mees looks at mees ooo ooo looks at mees

    • TheAntidote

Bingo. If the Confederate battle flag gets hauled down, the American flag will follow.

      • me

The Confederate flag is a symbol of state’s rights versus the all-controlling and all-powerful Federal ‘government’. Lincoln’s terrible ‘legacy’ is the needless deaths of hundreds of thousands of men, trying to maintain their liberty against the tyrannical, centralized behemoth of power and corruption that is Washington DC. Sherman and his ilk did their best to lay waste to the South, in retaliation towards their fellow countrymen for daring to defy the Federal government’s unconstitutional directives and overreach of power. Decade after decade since that ‘Civil’ War was fought, the voices of the people are getting fainter and fainter to their ‘elected representatives’. I say to let the Blacks wear this flag as a symbol of the blood shed on their behalf. Let the Blacks remember the White blood that ran like a river in order to ‘free’ them from the yoke of slavery. Let Whites wear the Confederate flag as a symbol of the last brave and desperate stand of an outnumbered and outgunned few against the Federal ‘government’ and the rising tide of ‘multiculturalism’, the ‘welfare’ state, tax slavery, the loss of sovereign rights, and the loss of the White man’s country to the hordes of ‘diversity’.

        • Personally I don’t think it has to be that complicated, nor should the CBF be cast in ideological abstractions or in terms of “rebellion.”

To me, it’s the flag of a particular group of people in a particular place. Blood and soil nationalism.

I know the CBF is the world’s best selling flag, mainly because of its political ramifications or that it’s a symbol of rebellion. If I got my way, it probably wouldn’t be the world’s best selling flag anymore.

          • Brian

I mentioned this in another thread a while back: in Greece I saw at least seven CBFs flown; I asked two guys about it and they said they hated the EU, and they didn’t know much about the Am Civil War but knew that flag was something to do with rebellion and local control.

    • salvagesalvage

      AHAHAHAHA

Oh man, if you didn’t have your racism how would you feel good about yourself?

      • Jack Burton

        Well hello, Mr. Troll!

If you couldn’t post irrelevant and nonsensical replies, how could you ever comment? You couldn’t, we’d never hear from you again.

        • salvagesalvage

Hmm, well your racism is obvious so I guess it wasn’t all that much of a contribution my pointing it out.

Still I do enjoy laughing at your kind, must be awful living in this modern world where your kind continues to shrink and shrivel to a joke.

          • Jack Burton

“Racism” is a Jewish communist invention to pathologize normal White ethnic loyalty and harmony.

When you say someone or something is racist, what you’re really saying is you hate White people and White people have no right to advocate for their own. I don’t take offense to this, you’re actually giving me a compliment.

Your attempt at condescending laughter is just thinly veiled hatred and jealousy. You’re not fooling anyone.

So other than repeating your nonsensical accusations of racism ad nauseam, what else do you have? Nothing, just as I said. You’re just another stupid, anti-White troll.

          • salvagesalvage

            > “Racism” is a Jewish communist invention to pathologize normal White ethnic loyalty and harmony.

            AHAHAHAHAHAH! The Joooooss did it!

            > When you say someone or something is racist, what you’re really saying is you hate White people and White people have no right to advocate for their own.

            No, it means they’re racist.

I get that you don’t understand that but you’re not very smart so that’s probably why.

            > Your attempt at condescending laughter is just thinly veiled hatred and jealousy.

Is it? Well I don’t know you well enough to say if I hate you, obviously you’re stupid but that doesn’t automatically engage my hatred.

            And I’m jelly? Of what?

            > So other than repeating your nonsensical accusations of racism

You’re not racist? Are you sure? You seem pretty racist to me but again, you’re not very smart so I can see why you would be confused about it.

  • sbuffalonative

    Controversy gets you headlines.

If this guy believes he can now claim this symbol and make it his own, he’s dumber than I gave him credit for.

Let’s hope it backfires and blows up in his face and the face of the black community.

  • NeanderthalDNA

Well, gotta admit I have no clue how to feel about this. It’s like a step show. What? What’s that negro thinking?

    Oh. OK…

  • Katherine McChesney

If he’s claiming our flag, to him I say “Shine my shoes, boy!”

  • We are a band of brothers and native to the soil
Fighting for our Liberty, With treasure, blood and toil
And when our rights were threatened, the cry rose near and far
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star!

Hurrah! Hurrah! For Southern rights, hurrah!
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

  • pcmustgo

He’s just addicted to shock value and controversy.

    • Kindly allow me to tweak your words …

“He’s just addicted to acutely aware of the marketing value of shock value and controversy.and behaves accordingly. He’s laughing all the way to the bank.

  • Puggg

Either one night ago or a few back, Kanye West played Kansas City, in their around 20,000 seat basketball-hockey arena that most bigger cities have, even though Kansas City has neither an NBA nor NHL team. The joint was 3/4 empty.

  • dd121

Kanye is the sort of fellow, that had I owned him 200 years ago, I believe I would have spent many of my spare moments whipping the crap out of him.

  • That is not a contradiction.

    Think it through.

    • Jack Burton

Being pro-black while having a White or non-black girlfriend is a contradiction. It’s the height of narcissism and hypocrisy.

Of course one expects this from Negroes because they’re stupid and illogical, a race driven by base lusts with no regard for consequence.

  • M.

A Negro promoting the Confederate flag… I quite frankly don’t know what the think of that.

  • Pro_Whitey

I’m not too surprised. Blacks can say “ni66er” at will, but it’s a terrible crime should a white persona say it. Now it’s OK for him to don the stars and bars, but don’t worry, it will still be a terrible crime for a white person to do it.

  • bigone4u

I’ve never seen nor heard this Negro “sing” or whatever it is he does, but his love of my ancestor’s flag tells me he’s channeling his black ancestors, who must have fought for slavery on the side of the Confederacy. In fact, his black ancestors probably owned slaves themselves. Subconsciously, he’s looking for a white man to put him in his place.

    • Kayne West *already is* in his place; he’s black, isn’t he? Here I am, an ex-con on the Terrorist Watch List, and I wouldn’t trade places with him.

  • Martel

He uses the flag to symbolize capturing an enemy flag. Kanye West hates whites, he was bred in the Trinity Church of Chicago.

  • Non-white who hate white people but have relations with white women do so because they hate white people. As far as Kanye West and Cain Velasquez are concerned. As far as they’re concerned, they’re taking them out of circulation for us.

    • TheAntidote

You are of course correct. I’m very surprised you had to write it out in this forum, for I took it for granted people with even a modicum of race realist consciousness would be well apprised of this fact.
In 1966 Eldrudge Cleever summed it up beautifully and succinctly in his manifesto ‘Soul on Ice’ , in which he announced his campaign of mass rape of White Women by Negroes as a revolutionary, redistributive act.

      • Anglo

Any decent White woman would have no problem aborting a fetus conceived from a Black man. I can’t even imagine giving birth so such a thing. Only White women who are fools do that.

      • gemjunior

and yet, he hangs on people’s walls and is supposedly one of the giants of negro “literature”…. pathetic.

    • Massif1

Kim K is not a loss for the white race.

  • John K

The Confederate flag is not, nor ever was, historically racist. It was simply a Confederate battle flag and became a symbol of Southern heritage and pride.

Labeling the flag racist and trying to ban it is another tactic blacks are using to get whitey.

I celebrated the passing of Mandela, and I will celebrate even more when I finally hear of Kanye West’s passing. A talentless imbecile with a habit of making moronic statements, West is truly a credit to his race. I believe that the dumber they are, the more blacks will support them.

    • The battle flag is really just based on the Cross of St. Andrew. St. Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland, and this emblem was likely picked because of the large Celtic component in the South’s white population.

  • George Clark

Maybe Mr. Kanye will do us all a favor and “appropriate” blackface makeup for his next “sold out” tour. Make that blackface makeup your own, you radical negro, you.

  • Andy

What I get from the above:

In the new South, people can no longer spell three-letter words.

  • Sangraal

”So I took the Confederate flag and made it my flag. It’s my flag now. Now what are you going to do?”

Classic blackness. ‘Dis be mine now. Wha yo gon do? Gibs me moar!’
    Like toddlers.

  • mobilebay

    What?

  • Spartacus

The South MUST rise again ! It’s the only chance America has of not being completely erased from history .

  • Edruezzi

There are more important things happening in the world than the antics of this fool. Things like the death of Nelson Mandela, leaded of the ANCCCP

  • gregCall

Again Kaye West demonstrates that he is even lower on the IQ scale than even most other blacks. This childish, self centered and self important idea that just because I say or believe something makes it so, is one of the hallmarks of black psychosis.

  • TheAntidote

He’s just a low IQ negro shuckin’ n’ jivin’ himz way through life. Even Barack Hussein Obongo has publicly called him a jackass (twice). In the old slave days he would have been a footman helping the crackers in and out of their coaches. Probably would have played the fiddle or harmonica in the parlour after large dinners.
He’s just a low IQ Negro; he doesn’t have any idea what the Confederate battle flag represents. He could just as easily have draped himself in any colorful pattern— the flag of Zimbabwe or Israel or McDonald’s. This is not a political or social statement. There is nothing provocative, innovative, controversial or “artistic” in his use of the flag. Just a low IQ Negro up on his hind legs. Ignore it and it will go away.

  • For his next act, Mr. West will invent the helicopter.

  • DiversityIsDeath

    Da Nu Souf

  • Larry Klein

I wouldn’t look for any deep wisdom out of Kayne Waste. Doing that is as fruitless as the Obama sycophants crying chicken little over Dennis Rodman’s trip to N Korea. These people are man-children with poor impulse control

  • Massif1

You can’t take this dude seriously

    • IstvanIN

Hey, he hooked up with Kim Whoredashian, that says more about him than anything else.

  • Anglo

    It’s a beautiful flag!

  • Brian

Kanye, despite his best efforts, is right about one thing: that flag is, purely aesthetically speaking, one of the most attractive flags around. I’d put it third, behind the UK’s Union Jack, and the Greek flag.

    • saxonsun

I agree with your flag list.

  • I’m not quite sure about that. My wife is Japanese, and when we make love it is because we love each other. It doesn’t involve any other emotions except the natural mammalian affection for a mate and the human desire to please and be pleased. Nobody conquered anyone in this particular story.

  • Please don’t sag your trousers or wear “afawete” clothing six sizes too large. That’s just tacky. Wear your hat straight and tie your shoelaces as well.

  • Jack Burton

He’s a typical example of a narcissistic, sociopathic Negro. He just has some musical ability, if you want to call it that, which modern, drug-addled young adults find entertaining.

His father was a Black Panther, so you can see where he gets his ideas.

I don’t consider the Kardashians White, so no loss.

  • Young Werther

hmmmmmmmmmm I think I get what West is talking about

  • Young Werther

He knows he has been tricked like all the *others*.

  • Kenner

    Brilliant!

  • SomeRandomDude

Okay that is not the Confederate Flag, though many call it that. It was originally the battle flag of the Army of Northern Virgina, it was square, was adopted as other state’s battles flags, like the Army of Tennessee it was rectangle, and was flown in many variants by our Navy. It also is not the “Stars and Bars” that was the first flag of the Confederacy. It also is not the Bonnie Blue flag either, it was flown at Fort Sumter. To those who actually flew it in battle it was better known as the Southern Cross.

I’m a very proud descendent of a large number of family members who fought under that flag from Virgina and Georgia. I’m also a descendent of great women who suffered greatly in the War Crimes committed against Georgia. I’ll never forget what Sherman done to my beloved Georgia with Lincoln’s blessings. My family never owned slaves and was nothing more than simple yeomen fighting against exactly what this despicable Union has became today and most of this World can’t stand. It’s a damn shame The Great Stonewall Jackson was not with us for Gettysburg. Robert E. Lee is the only graduated of West Point ever to graduate without one demerit, talk about outstanding character.

Speaking of Germany I understand Heinz Guderian studied the Confederate Calvary tactics of J.E.B Stuart and Nathan Bedford Forrest. My family supported the German cause and her People, none of my family fought in WWI or WWII. I did have two Uncles who fought in Vietnam, but, it’s not like they had a choice in the matter being drafted.

Oh I’m a good ole Rebel and that’s just what I am and for this Yankee Nation I do not give a damn. I won’t be Reconstructed and Kanye West can go to hell. I salute the Confederate Flag with affection, reverence, and undying remembrance.
