10 Reasons Why We Need Diversity on College Campuses

Sophia Kerby, American Progress, October 9, 2012

{snip}

As a nation we have come a long way in terms of inclusiveness—in 2008 we elected our first African American president—but our work is far from done. It’s important that as a country we continue to expand opportunities for all to ensure that we are giving everyone a fair shot.

Here are 10 reasons why diversity on college campuses is crucial for all students.

1. Our nation is changing, and our higher education institutions need to reflect this diversityMore than half of all U.S. babies today are people of color, and by 2050 our nation will have no clear racial or ethnic majority. Communities of color are tomorrow’s leaders, and we need to better prepare our future workforce.

2. While communities of color have made great strides in closing the education gap, disparities in higher education remain prevalent. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, in 2009 about 28 percent of Americans older than 25 years of age had a four-year college degree. That same year only 17 percent of African Americans and 13 percent for Hispanics had a four-year degree.

3. It’s in our national interest to invest in our future workforce. {snip}

4. Diversity in the workforce fosters innovation and competitiveness in business. Studies consistently show that diversity drives innovation and fosters creativity. In a Forbes survey, 85 percent of respondents said diversity is crucial for their businesses, and approximately 75 percent indicated that their companies will put more focus during the next three years to leverage diversity to achieve their business goals.

5. Fortune 500 companies agree that diversity is good for the bottom line. More than 60 leading 500 Fortune companies—including Coca-Cola, General Electric, Hewlett-Packard, Intel, Johnson & Johnson, and many others—came out in support of race-based admission policies in an amicus brief to the Supreme Court in the Grutter v. Bollinger ruling.

6. Diversity is a national security issue. In the past, our U.S. armed forces have argued that a highly qualified and racially diverse officer corps is essential to the military’s ability to provide national security. A top Army personnel official states that, “Diversity adds to the strength of the military as a force.” In Grutter v.Bollinger a number of high-ranking officers and civilian leaders of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps urged the Court to uphold the limited consideration of race.

7. Diversity on campus benefits all students. Diversity on college campuses isn’t just a benefit for the brown and black students. Learning with people from a variety of backgrounds encourages collaboration and fosters innovation, thereby benefiting all students. Research shows that the overall academic and social effects of increased racial diversity on campus are likely to be positive, ranging from higher levels of academic achievement to the improvement of near- and long-term intergroup relations.

8. The implications of race-neutral policies in educational opportunities are detrimental to the next generation. Admission polices that do not consider race are predicted to decrease representation of students of color at the most selective four-year institutions by 10 percent. {snip}

9. Research show that race-neutral polices simply don’t work. Scholars have already debunked the myth that a class-based admission system is an adequate replacement for a race-based admission policy as a means of creating greater levels of diversity. A study conducted by the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Law found that after using a class-based admission system, enrollment of African Americans and American Indians fell by more than 70 percent. A wide breadth of research concludes that race-conscious practices are necessary in some capacity to achieve a level of diversity that encompasses our diverse nation.

10. The majority of Americans support race-conscious policies in higher education. A CBS News/New York Times poll in 2009 shows that the majority of Americans are in favor of promoting diversity on college campuses through race-conscious policies—including the Asian American population, a group that is inaccurately speculated to benefit from the ban of such practices. {snip}

    • There is not one truth in the entire article. tt’s noting more that a cheerleader piece on why whites should be replaced. The simple truth is whites and east asians can not be replaced with NAMs with the same result.
      .
Diversity fosters innovation? LOL. Good one.

      • Only in #4 do they make a lame and easily refutable attempt to tell us why diversity is desirable. All other items, the authors just take it for a self-evident truth. I’m surprised they didn’t trot out the food and restaurants canard here.

        • smells_just_like

This article is written from the victor’s stand point. To argue against it is a hate crime against equality and social justice.

        • #4 was the worst in my opinion.

Diversity is key to the success of McRib. Diversity serves up McDonald’s burgers. A Korean Allstate insurance agent probably sells a lot of policies to people that attend the same Korean church he does. Diversity is crucial to Microsoft, but do we really believe the pollster is trying to portray this in a manner that Asian programmers are necessary. Kroger’s and Walgreen’s success requires a public healh cards and the EBT. Diversity is just “good” ….
          .
What is not explained is why diversity is crucial to their business.

        “Diversity fosters innovation”

Next time someone says something like this to me, I hope I’m brave enough to say “We went to the moon without diversity.”

        • GM (Australia)

Somehow I think it will be a very non-diverse nation that goes to the Moon next, namely China. They will of course be using the science and technology developed by a pre-diverse USA.

          • Sangraal

‘They will of course be using the science and technology developed by a pre-diverse USA.’

Who in turn used the science and technology developed by a pre-diverse Germany.

        • Tommy Gun

Yes and I can assure you that diversity would have prevented that.
Diversity is a weakness, not a strength. It is based on wishful thinking and improperly drawn conclusions.

      • Barnaby Sutton

Oh how the wonders of diversity have taken root in South Africa! What a cause for extreme joy! Diversity in action.

    • The__Bobster

Could you explain why? And don’t mention restaurants.

      • Because…diversity. It’s like our greatest strength, you know.

      • Anonymous

I can think of exactly one instance where racial diversity is beneficial. International sports competitions. I believe that America wins more gold medals than it otherwise would because of a racially diverse population.

        • me

Great! We’ll be the world leader in minorities that can manipulate a ball and who can run real fast…..I’d rather be the world leader in freedom, scientific innovation, and other wonderful gifts of the White races. Watching the negrophiles worship at the shrine of Blacks that can put a ball through a hoop, run a pigskin down an expanse of lawn, or beat each other to a pulp on a canvas mat is truly becoming old. “Diversity” is a high price to pay for children’s games….

        • Tommy Gun

But there is so much more to life than entertainment. Diversity may have its place in the circus but produces stress and conflict in daily life.

        • Nathanwartooth

I would rather the USA set policies that require the USA to stay majority White and get kicked out of the Olympics than win a million more medals.

Olympic medals are pointless when your country is falling down around you.

          • Jefferson

Jamaica and Cuba win a lot of Olympic gold medals but they are still 3rd world banana republics.

    • smells_just_like

Diversity is the Great Final Solution to the problem of White privilege.

    • e2734298

      You forgot diversity is great.

    • What I read into the article was—LOWER STANDARDS to appease those of color who can’t MEET the standard..

Make NO mistake, China, India and other emerging economic powers don’t subscribe to lowering standards….they are and will ‘kick our butts’ economically…

Fortune 500 companies believe ‘diversity’ is good for the bottom line? They must have been sued by Jesse Jackson for ‘discrimination’….or, not promoting unqualified minorities..

No wonder the USA is sinking……

      • Anonymous

Actually, India does subscribe to lowering standards in the name of diversity. It is well known that they have huge set-asides and affirmative action for people of lower castes.

        • e2734298

If I recall correctly, India was giving free cars and blenders to people of lower castes to sterilize themselves.

    • blight14

I think number 6 says it all…………it sums up the entire argument……great list overall……thanks!

    • christopher mahoney

Exactly. Diversity is a synonym for excellence, or holiness.

  • bigone4u

In Texas the state legislature and idiot Governor Rick Perry have signed off on the idea that every Hispanic must have a college degree. I call it the M & M’s initiative, where M & M stands for More Mexicans. So, the next time you snack on a bag of M & M’s just remember that the brown ones are the best. (snark)

    • The__Bobster

I always wondered why M&M’s came in two shades of brown. Now I know.

      • bigone4u

The irony is that most of them rack up a lot of student loan debt and never get a job worthy of a college degree. However, it’s not clear to me that most of the degrees are of the same quality as even 20 years ago.

  • Erasmus

  • David Ashton

And a “diverse” society (not “nation” surely) requires the immigration of more and more diversity with lower and lower levels of achievement.

    • smells_just_like

High levels of achievement promote inequality and White privilege. You are supposed to “embrace changing notions and doubts” about the meaning of achievement.

The new achievement means achieving a non White privilege world. The White privilege world needs to call achievement keeping its inventions and advancements away from Diversity.

WHITES ONLY, BECAUSE ITS THE ONLY WAY.

      • whiteuncleruckus

I completley agree that non-whites should not have access to White technology. One day I saw some gringo hating mexican woman driving her car, invented by the White Man, while texting on her cell phone, invented by the White Man, while wearing a pair of glasses invented by the White Man. Makes me sick.

        • smells_just_like

We need a generalized White Privilege Invention Recall.

“Our inventions hurt your feelings, because you couldn’t have invented them, so out of sensitivity and compassion to your pain, we recall everything.”

      • David Ashton

Jumping up and down and flinging legs about to a jungle-beat thump, however, is REAL achievement. Nome sane?

  • Diversity = non-white

    __________

No, just detrimental to low-IQ Mestizos and Bantus.

    • GeneticsareDestiny

I love seeing liberals whine about how affirmative action has to be race based rather than class based, because class based AA lets in too many working class whites.

It really provides an excellent opportunity for them to show their true colors. They
A: Don’t want to admit that working class whites exist, and that they outnumber poor minorities (at least for now) because ‘all whites are rich oppressors’ is a key part of the liberal Narrative and
B: They loathe working-class whites with every fiber of their being.

      • Jefferson

Liberals support race based affirmative action over class based affirmative action.

But I thought liberals were suppose to be the ones who are color blind and only judge people by the content of their character, while it is those crazy gun loving tea bagging right wingers who are the race obsessed nazis.

    • As the low IQ meztizos and bantus won’t get to experience the diversity of …… white women.

  • bubo

Wow, imagine that. A black woman believes that discriminating against white people is a good thing for everyone, including whitey. She wouldn’t have an agenda would she?

White people are overwhelmingly against being discriminated against, but no one cares what we think. Soon they’ll have the numbers to enact whatever evil they have in their hearts. White people better get ready to fight.

    • smells_just_like

When the blacks get what they want, and they will, Whites simply will be erased by total Diversity immersion and then mongrelization of our bloodlines because White women have decided they have a duty to Eracism by giving their White wombs over to the rising tide of color.

What can you say about a race whose women don’t want their children to look like them?

      • The same thing you can say about a race whose men don’t want their
children to look like them. That’s all I see in San Francisco…
flat-faced, squinty-eyed, brown haired mongrels, out with their white fathers and Chinese mothers.

Good. Now I know who to boycott.

    • I wish I had read that earlier about G.E. and Hewlett-Packard, because on Sunday I bought four optical PS/2 computer mice: two GE and two HP. I prefer the PS/2 connection because (1) moving the mouse in normal use will eventually loosen up a USB connection to where the mouse constantly cuts in and out, and (2) on an older PC there may be only one USB port, so using this for the mouse prevents use of a flash drive.

Sigh. At least they were used at the ARC thrift store: $1.99 each.

      • I use either wireless mouses, or connect to a USB hub that has been taped to the side of the machine to secure it.

      • plaintruthforidiots

Total nonsense. “moving the mouse in normal use”? What do you mean? Unplugging it and plugging it back in every day? A PS/2 connection is MUCH more likely to be damaged doing that, due to the pins in it. You would have a job breaking a USB socket.
“on an older PC there may be only one USB port”. What? Seriously? I have NEVER seen a PC with only ONE USB port, and by “older” I take it you mean “It can’t even run XP”, secondly, have you never heard of USB HUBS? Duh. Stop writing rubbish.

        • I don’t know whether these older machines will run XP, but I know one of them will only run Win-98 second edition and nothing else. The PS-2 socket does not seem to be flexed in use the way that USB connection was. If it helps any, it was the mouse end of the connection, rather than the tower case, so the mouse (H.P.) is lunch.

If we’re going to stop writing rubbish, you first.

The Center for American Progress was created in 2003 as a left-leaning propaganda mill, which plays a central role in the Democratic Party’s infrastructure. It’s advocacy and lobbying arm is the American Progress Action Fund, which shares a physical address and staff.

George Soros donated “up to 3 million dollars” to the group. The Center for American Progress “is classified as a 501(c)(3) organization under U.S. Internal Revenue Code. These are just highly subjective reasons for having more diversity, they aren’t actually reasons for why diversity benefits colleges. The only reasons for a kid to get into college should be that they have the aptitude to do well in their chosen subject, not that they are part of a minority ethnic group or from a lower socio-economic class.

I’m working class and I don’t think they should let working class kids in unless they get the grades they need. I don’t think sports teams should accept inferior athletes on the basis of being part of a minority group, only the best should get in. If anything it’s even more important that we keep our education system based on merit, as these kids will be a major part of how competitive the country is.

  • cali

Just keep telling yourself diversity is great and ask no follow up questions. God forbid we simply give the BEST the opportunity. This article is simply PC mumbo-jumbo with absolutely no real information. Who really looks at this and agrees with this “feel good” presentation. If I need surgery, give me the BEST surgeon. If I need an attorney, find me the BEST council. If I want a mechanic, give me the BEST you have to offer. We are simply making our nation weaker and weaker.

Research papers found here: Dr. Eran Israeli Elhaik, exposes the DNA genome. Published by Oxford Journals 01/16/2013 Title: Google: The Missing Link of Jewish European Ancestry. McKusick-Nathans Institute of Genetic Medicine, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD, USA, 21208.

You can’t be Anti-Semitic against people who are 70% European.

        • David Ashton

Well, you can certainly oppose people of any racial ancestry who do undesirable things. There is no case for hating all Jews because they are born of Jewish mothers any more than hating any group as a whole. We are certainly entitled to oppose Jews who promote non-white mass-immigration, including Muslim Israel-haters, into the “western democracies”, but we should also acknowledge Jews, whatever their numbers or influence, who do not do so and who, whatever their motives, align with us on our own “existential” issue.

          • PesachPatriot

So by marks logic 70% european makes us pretty damn white….If the average british tourist in florida saw me walking my kid down the street he’d probably guess I was just a regular white american of mixed irish/italian/anglo ancestry. I’m also pretty sure that in about 20 years even guys with swastikas and schutzstaffel runes tattooed on the side of their heads will be finding my blonde haired blue eyed daughter pretty attractive and asking for her number.

Most american jews have pretty natural pro-white tendencies until they hear a lot of verfluchte juden and hitler was right type nonsense being spewed and are then driven into the arms of the multicult crowd. This also drives off a lot of fairly sensible gentile whites too. I don’t think most americans or europeans, especially germans, have particularly warm feelings for an austrian painter who ended up destroying a thousand years worth of art and architecture in less than two decades. I do recognize the enormous damage being done by jews with positions of power in the political and economic realm, but many of us are just as upset with some of this stuff as christian white brits, americans and canadians. This is one of the big reasons I post on this site….the only jews who are really pushing this stuff are the multi-billionaire CEO’s of Fortune 500 corps and useful idiots in academia like TIm Wise and Noel Ignatiev who have never been in the hood after dark and live safely behind gates with private armed security who will never have to deal with the consequences of their actions.

    9. Research show that race-neutral polices simply don’t work. Scholars

    encompasses our diverse nation.

So, in essence what this means is that poor whites far outshine blacks of any income bracket, so much so that they would decrease their numbers by 70%. Reading figures like that you cannot help but see that the artificial elevation of blacks does have a detrimental effect of the educational opportunities of poor white kids.

    • GeneticsareDestiny

Just wanted to post this related image here. Only the blacks making over $200,000 a year can even scrape past the white kids making under $20,000 per year.

This infuriates the liberal elite, because it instantly disproves their ‘poverty causes low test scores’ meme.

      • Jefferson

How many Black households in the U.S make over $200,000 a year ? It has to be extremely miniscule.

Because the vast majority of Black neighborhoods in this country are of the lower income variety.

Right now I am reading “Race and Reason: A Yankee View.” This was published in 1961 and written by Carleton Putnam as a polemic against the Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court decision of 1954.

Back then integrationists argued that when public schools were integrated, blacks would perform as well as whites. Carleton Putnam disagreed. 52 years later we know he was right.

Now integrationists are changing the subject of the debate. They are claiming that it does not matter that blacks generally perform less well than whites.

    • David Ashton

Well done, J E. I read it as a student when it first came out, and it led to a lifelong subscription to “Mankind Quarterly” and private correspondence with Professor Ruggles Gates, an expert who never shared your view that wide racial out-crossing had no “downside”.

The only kind of diversity that conceivably benefits the United States is diversity on every characteristic but merit. When standards are lowered for politically favored minorities they continue to perform less well. This reduces the confidence most of us have in the institutions they work for.

In “The Inequality Taboo,” Charles Murray wrote: “Consider an observation furtively voiced by many who interact with civil servants: that government is riddled with people who have been promoted to their level of incompetence because of pressure to have a staff with the correct sex and ethnicity in the correct proportions and positions. Are these just anecdotes? Or should we be worrying about the effects of affirmative action on the quality of government services? (77) ”

Every characteristic? A Babel of tongues, ethnic loyalties and (a Putnam concern) sexual moralities?

      • JohnEngelman

OK, it is important that those hired by American corporations be fluent in English, and that they not engage in industrial espionage.

Employers have the right to prefer non whites with good written and verbal skills in English to those whites who make errors of spelling, grammar, and capitalization.

As I have pointed out in the past, quoting Professor J. Philippe Rushton, who spoke at six American Renaissance conferences, Orientals tend to have better sexual morality than whites.

I bet Eve Carson believed this nonsense too, right up until she was brutally murdered by the forces of diversity.

Someone is always attempting to lower the bar, for the undeserving, ill-equipped, low IQ applicant who has no business pursuing higher education in the first place; affirmative action hires are often elevated to the level of their own incompetence, making them totally ineffective in management positions, which begs the question, what has become of standards? And perhaps more importantly, what will happen to academic integrity if this is allowed to continue unabated?

  • What exactly is the point of lowering collegiate admissions standards if the beneficiaries will not be able to handle the coursework? Even the most trenchant advocates of dysfunctional nonwhites must understand that their favorite two-legged pets do not benefit from flunking out during or just after their freshman years.

Money, honey! College is big business. The rotating door of ‘minority’ students dropping out will still demand payment for the loans given them on the taxpayer’s dime.
College is a waste of time, unless you go into the hard sciences like engineering, computer technology, chemistry, etc. Otherwise, it’s just Marxist rhetoric and fluffy, feel good ‘multicultural’ fairy tales disguised as ‘knowledge’.

      • Agreed, but given that total enrollment at a given university is going to be capped by capacity, the total amount of tuition money an institution will take in would be fixed by this capacity (leaving aside higher fees for out-of-state students). In other words, five students each paying tuition for one year before they flunk out will pay the same total tuition as one student who attends for five years and then graduates. The major difference is that single successful student is taking upper division classes after his first two years, and is not placing a burden on high-demand space in lower-division classes.

China, Japan and Korea did not get this memo and yet..they are doing just fine. Go figure.

  • LHathaway

When they celebrate diversity at historically black colleges, majority black colleges, and at women’s colleges, what they mean is admitting even more women and blacks and doing more to support them and raise their consciousness..

  • LHathaway

“China, Japan and Korea did not get this memo and yet..they are doing just fine”

Maybe they did get the memo and to them it meant the USA’s search for diversity includes them.

For years, many Asian-Americans have been convinced that it’s harder for them to gain admission to the nation’s top colleges.

Studies show that Asian-Americans meet these colleges’ admissions standards far out of proportion to their 6 percent representation in the U.S. population, and that they often need test scores hundreds of points higher than applicants from other ethnic groups to have an equal chance of admission. Critics say these numbers, along with the fact that some top colleges with race-blind admissions have double the Asian percentage of Ivy League schools, prove the existence of discrimination.

Affirmative action works against Orientals. They succeed on the basis of talent.

I suppose you could look at a pile of dog dukie and find something positive to say about it. The author has strained pretty hard to do that with “diversity.”

I wonder how diverse her neighborhood is or her parents? I wonder if she really practises diversity in her daily life. A good dose of real diversity would likely change her perspective on many things.

  • Kathy M

Diversity only benefits non-whites. The end results are wealth and knowledge transfers from whites to non-whites and the exclusion of more qualified whites in education and employment. This only benefits non-whites.

  • Athling

In the great record of human achievement diversity is sorely lacking.

  • 1Forced_Registration

I take some major issues with “7. Diversity on campus benefits all students. Diversity on college campuses isn’t just a benefit for the brown and black students. Learning with people from a variety of backgrounds encourages collaboration and fosters innovation, thereby benefiting all students. Research shows that the overall academic and social effects of increased racial diversity on campus are likely to be positive, ranging from higher levels of academic achievement to the improvement of near- and long-term intergroup relations.”

During undergrad I had an English class that showed me the true benefits of diversity. A black teacher with a masters degree who could not pronounce words such as: docility, rapport, and permeability. It was truly embarrassing watching this teacher struggle to read aloud a paper I had written. I had four lovely black co-workers on a group project that demonstrated every level of street thuggery, inability to write, inability to communicate effectively, inability to meet deadlines, and absolute inability to accept any criticism of work. Of the four, only one of them could write at a college level, and even her work often missed the point. I ended up stuck with the editing job, and it was like herding cats to get these folks to submit a revision, meet a deadline, or actually put forth anything approaching effort. The only thing I got back was serious attitude that was completely unjustified given the lack of effort put forth by 3 members of the group. The one thing that stayed with me from having to work on the group project was that I never wanted to work with blacks on anything in a group ever again! In groups, blacks are more often than not miserable to work with. Whatever restraints exist upon black behavior when they are a minority, disappear completely when they are in a majority.

In my opinion, two of the members of that group had no business being in college period. One of them actually belonged there, but needed help with understanding concepts that should have been ironed out in the first year of college. The last member of that group was what some people call a civilized black, but that was only a thin veneer that was easily stripped away when actually called on her performance.

The experience left me even more soured to blacks than I was before working on the project. It soured me to such a degree that I actually feared for my country. Diversity is why an associates, bachelors, and even masters degree are often not worth the paper they are printed on. These events happened at a school I had been to 15 years prior, and they would not have occurred at that earlier point in time.

One of the other students in the class was awaiting a court date on felony resisting arrest, assaulting an officer, and drug charges. I actually liked the kid, and referred him to a great lawyer. I could see where drugs had dulled his mind, but at least he didn’t pretend to have a veneer of civility. He had the intelligence to be there, but his temperament was likely going to be a lifelong struggle to overcome.

Security issues also changed at the campus. We had a shooting, a rape on campus in one of the bathrooms, hundreds of vehicles broken into, assaults, a mob assault, and many acts of theft. Someone literally took feces, and stuffed it into the vending machines. 15 years prior the school still had the occasional vehicle break in, or petty theft, but there were no: rapes, serious assaults, feces stuffed into the vending machines, and mob assaults.

Blacks mostly disappeared in graduate school, but the few that remained often didn’t truly belong there. However, they were not the students that gave me the most pause as to behavior issues. The Indians in grad school showed me a side of that culture that reminded me why half of the country is in immense poverty. While the Indian students were often good at math, and sciences; they had horrible tempers, and impulse control issues. There were displays of contempt, and a general lack of compassion that astounded me. As a group, the Indians were incredibly rude to professors, and this behavior became worse when their numbers increased. There is a stereotype that Indians do not think creatively, but do well at rote memorization. I would put that as somewhat false. Indians could think creatively, but it was often with a great deal of effort, and incredibly stress provoking when they were called to do so. The Indian students often acted out with petty vandalism such as keying cars when they faced those stress producing tasks, and did not succeed at them.

Whites have their faults, but there is a world of difference between the level of compassion demonstrated by whites as opposed to Indians. I do not know where the touts of diversity get the idea that contact with people of other races will make us get along better. The contact I had with diversity greatly increased my dislike dealing with people of several races. My experience with diversity has turned me from a person that did not harbor prejudice into one that does, based upon repeated negative experiences with certain groups. If one sticks their hand into the fire often enough, eventually an association with the fire causing a burn develops.

    • David Ashton

This reminds me of an experience while walking across Magdalen Bridge in Oxford with a fellow undergraduate who was (believe it or not) an Indian Jew. Two poor Indian workers in tatty clothes, probably from the motor works, shuffled towards us. Abrahams suddenly remarked: “You feel sorry for people like them. We DON’T.”

You have just entered the Twilight Zone……………Will the follow up article be titled, ‘436 Reasons Diversity is Not Needed’?…………

  • tgb

Colleges are already lowering standards for minorities(except for Asians).Don’t worry, they can’t handle the coursework and transfer to the local community/tech. schools or drop out. I don’t get the point of the article…

  • Hunter Morrow

There are never any studies that show diversity around increases test scores for the student body, or increases graduation odds, or lowers time taken to graduate. Just feel-good stuff. Like the Forbes survey where 85 percent of people said it was “essential” to have a diverse workforce. Why? Less absenteeism? Less injuries on the job? Faster turnaround, lower turnover in the work force, smaller overhead? What? What does “diversity” do? Show me a study! If it was so good you could give me 500 studies showing it as a hard fact.

“Diversity in the workforce fosters innovation and competitiveness in business.”
    How? Show me how!

    • There isn’t any evidence that diversity promotes these things. However, by continuously repeating these myths as if they were established facts, the left is attempting to give itself some traction in their parallel accusations that conservative whites are either mentally ill, “ignorant” (their favorite), evil or some combination of the three for opposing the left’s societal agenda.

“See,” they say, “diversity is good for you, too. How can you possibly want to resist having it imposed upon you? Are you crazy?”

    • JohnEngelman

There are two kinds of diversity. The good kind is hiring without regard to race. This kind of diversity means that Orientals and Jews will be admitted to prestigious universities and hired by leading corporations far out of proportion to their numbers in the population.

The bad kind of diversity is lowering standards for blacks and Hispanics.

Because affirmative action does not create opportunities it takes them from those who deserve them, and gives them to those who do not.

      • If diversity was beneficial in and of itself, it would happen naturally, without the need for moralizing busybodies on the left to promote it so assiduously.

        • JohnEngelman

The moralizing busybodies advocate the second kind of diversity, which amounts to discrimination against white men.

These ‘reasons’ are all wishful thinking. Of course ‘corporations’ are going to say ‘diversity is great’ because to do otherwise is to invite a boycott. I could address every one of the 10 ‘reasons’ but at this point it’s like “why bother.”

  • Diversity destroys culture. I will agree with both black and white that diversity is nothing more than genocide. I liked it back in the days where there was only black and white in this country. At some point we as a people were beginning to respect each other. Now it seems as though we have to let everyone else in this country.

Every one of these claims is backed not by real evidence but by opinions of respondents who don’t want to risk a charge of racism, so they just spout the party line.
