No More Online Learners Permits

Jennifer Bisram, WOFL-TV (Orlando), January 3, 2011

For the first time in nearly a decade, anyone wanting a learners permit has to make the trip to the department of motor vehicles. Florida state officially canceled its online testing program over the weekend.

The main reason why officials decided to put the brakes on the online program is because of its inaccuracy. In 2009, they re-tested about 600 people who passed the test online and more than fifty percent failed.

Law enforcement officers are not surprised. “I think I ran in to some of those people who got it online probably cheating,” said Officer Matt Walker who works at the Sanford police department.

“I’ve seen some of the drivers here in Florida and seen so many accidents–its unreal,” he said. The state started the online exam in 2004.
