‘Corrective Action’ Will Be Taken Against Stranahan Flag Football Coach

Stranahan officials said they were in the process of determining whether girls’ flag football coach Bennett Wyche will be reprimanded for pulling the flag of an opposing player during the Dragons’ district semifinal against Western.

According to district records, Wyche is a security guard at the school.

“Corrective actions will be taken, without a doubt,” Stranahan athletic director Jen Hamilton said. “He will be preparing an apology, a whole-hearted apology for Western. That will definitely be done.”

A spectator’s camera caught the moment and Wyche was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct.

A season ago, Wyche led the Dragons to a berth in the state tournament and was the Sun Sentinel Coach of the Year.

A photograph sent to the Sun Sentinel shows Stranahan coach Bennett Wyche grabbing the flag of Western safety Jessica Lucarelli as she runs past him on an interception return.
