Ex-Officer Gets Three Years for Letting in Immigrants

AP, Feb. 10, 2006

McALLEN, Texas A former Customs officer has been sentenced today to three years in prison for accepting money to allow illegal immigrants into Texas.

A federal judge in McAllen sentenced 42-year-old Fabian Solis of Alto Bontio.

Solis last April pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to bring in and transport undocumented aliens.

The feds say Solis allowed immigrants traveling from Mexico to pass through the lanes he was working on international bridges at Falcon Heights, Roma and Rio Grande City.

Solis admitted getting 300 dollars for each immigrant he let through, raising at least 170-thousand dollars between March of 2003 and December of 2004.

Undercover F-B-I agents videotaped Solis accepting the money from a smuggler.
