Censorship Can’t Make AmRen Unpopular

Chris Roberts, American Renaissance, April 11, 2021

Last April, I wrote about how American Renaissance has:

built-in obstacles to reaching new readers. Many schools, colleges, and offices use WiFi programs that block our site completely. Many social media platforms won’t let us use them, and if someone tweets a link to us Twitter warns that our site could give him a virus. . . . Journalists who write about us often don’t link to us, and Google clearly modifies its search results to keep AmRen ranking low. Every year, the amount of staff time and energy dedicated to finding workarounds to these digital blockades increases.

Despite all these obstacles, we continue to grow, and are more popular than plenty of news and opinion websites that have far more resources and favorable press.

One year later, what I wrote is even more true. In June, YouTube deplatformed us. That website is second only to Google in global popularity, and helped our videos reach a wide audience. But now, several months later, the American Renaissance website is still attracting new readers. Last month, we had more visits than several mainstream conservative websites. Human Events, for example, had 224,380 visits in March. AmRen had 823,140. The high-toned Catholic magazine First Things did better than Human Events, but with 596,410 visits, is still far less popular than we are.

American Renaissance is also more popular than a number of trendy and respected leftist sites. Below are some data from SimilarWeb.com, which analyzes  traffic. The “bounce rate” is how many visitors look at one page and then leave, which is taken to mean the visitor wasn’t impressed with what he found, or arrived by mistake.

Some sites with more visits than American Renaissance have much higher bounce rates. For example, the Southern Poverty Law Center, with its hundreds of employees, half a billion dollars in the bank, offshore bank accounts, and reverential coverage by the media, is a little more popular than American Renaissance overall, but has an abysmal bounce rate. Moreover, its readers, on average, spend only a minute and a half on the site before leaving. AmRen readers average more than six minutes on the site.

Even compared to other dissident websites, American Renaissance is  popular. Here are more data for March from SimilarWeb:

Between Jared Taylor’s signature videos, Gregory Hood’s brilliant commentary, and our readers’ riveting stories about the harsh realities of race, American Renaissance continues to be one of the best websites for whites around the world. Year after year, censors try to change that, and year after year, AmRen endures. So thanks to everyone who supports us — it’s not in vain.
