A man is facing multiple charges, including first-degree murder, after investigators said he and four accomplices impersonated police officers, kidnapped a 22-year-old man from a North Miami apartment complex and later shot him to death in southwest Miami-Dade County.
According to a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office arrest report, Devorise Carl Johnson, 21, of southwest Miami-Dade, was arrested Wednesday after being discharged from HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment for gunshot wounds sustained during the incident.

The victim, identified as Eddrick Malik Bethune, was abducted early Sunday, Oct. 4, from the Aliro apartment complex at 14040 Biscayne Boulevard in North Miami.

Around midnight, Bethune walked into the parking lot, where the five men approached him in a gray 2026 Toyota Camry equipped with flashing red and blue lights, authorities said.
According to the arrest report, the driver and front-seat passenger got out of the vehicle wearing baseball caps, black pants and long-sleeved black shirts with the word “POLICE” on the back.
Both men were armed with guns, the report stated.
Investigators said the men ordered Bethune to the ground and handcuffed him.

Moments later, Johnson encountered the second victim in the living room and raised his gun, authorities said.
Investigators said the second victim opened fire, striking Johnson multiple times, while Johnson also fired at him.
The report states that Johnson and the two other men continued shooting at the second victim before jumping from a third-story bedroom window to escape.

Investigators said Johnson was dropped off at Jackson North Medical Center while the four other men continued driving with Bethune.
The group traveled to the area of Southwest 216th Street and Southwest 189th Avenue in the Redlands, where investigators said Bethune was shot multiple times and killed.
