Sixth Football Player Charged in Assault near Cal U Campus

WPXI, November 1, 2014

A sixth California University of Pennsylvania player allegedly involved in a brutal assault near the campus early Thursday morning has turned himself in to police.

Shelby Wilkerson, 20, of Harrisburg, turned himself in to campus police Saturday, authorities said. He was then turned over to the California Borough Police Department and charged with aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, harassment and criminal conspiracy.

Police said Wilkerson had been identified as one of the participants in the beating of a man outside of Spuds Restaurant on Wood Street. Wilkerson and five other Cal U football players are accused in the assault that left Lewis Campbell, 30, of West Chester, with a severe brain injury.

Witnesses said Campbell was defending his girlfriend when he was beaten unconscious about 2 a.m. The suspects were said to have been yelling, “Football strong!” as they fled.
