Los Lakers, Los Spurs and Other Noche Latina Jerseys

More news stories on Race and Sports

J.E. Skeets, Ball Don’t Lie, Mar 4, 2009

Kicking off the The Association’s third annual Noche Latina event—a program that recognizes the NBA’s fans and players from across Latin America and U.S. Hispanic communities—“Los Kobe” and his Lakers wore celebratory jerseys in their front-running 99-89 win over the Grizzlies on Tuesday.

Announced back in February, Noche Latina frenzy is set to take place in eight of the top 10 American Hispanic markets this season (up from four in 2007-08): Los Angeles, Miami, Phoenix, San Antonio, Dallas, Chicago, Houston and New York.

But here’s a fun twist: Rather than translating the team names literally (“Los Sols,” “Los Espuelas,” what have you), market research has apparently concluded that Spanish-speakers in the U.S. refer to them a little differently. The Miami Heat, for example, is called “El Heat”; the San Antonio Spurs are “Los Spurs.” I’ll have to take their word for it.

NBA CAN’T and wouldn’t improve my quality of life whatsoever, anyway.
NBA’s demographics don’t include me and quite frankly,
my life never includes the NBA. It’s that simple. It’s great.
It’s a win-win situation.
Hip-Hop,blacks,ghetto talk,their fan base,
they exist in one sphere.
I am on a higher plane, in another sphere.
I’m here and they’re there….and we’ll keep it that way.

Outside of Argentina and Brazil (Brazilians speak Portuguese), I was not aware that basketball was very popular in Indoamerica.

Ironic since the only Hispanics in the NBA are white Spaniards.

In fact, all-white Spain won the last world championships of basketball in 2006. They even got the silver medal in the 2008 Olympics, just losing to “our” all-black “dream team.”

The American to Mexican NBA logo change is just another outright
example of corporate America following through on its
anti-american agenda to transfer Americas culture into the hands
of tens of millions of subcultural blacks and foreign hispanics
as Washington sets the stage for the overthrow of Americas white
identity as a republic.
Here in the state of Pennsylvania many ATM’s and supermarket
products are labeled in the Mexican language throughout
the southeastern region in a state where Hispanics are
relatively nonexistent.
It is now more clear than ever that the corporations and the
federal government seek to deconstruct America and resurrect
a nation of multicultural despots so that the people will have
less influence in government affairs as long as they are
satisfied with unlimited comfort foods, high definition cable,
and outright materialism.

The irony is that a number of the white players in the NBA come from South America and Spain. Definitely European stock, not Mestizo. The NBA is going to be in a world of hurt, anyway, I’m sure the Mexican fanbase will pull it out, yeah.

Having played semi-pro basketball myself back in the 1970’s (shooting guard,) and knowing how the game should really be played, the NBA has been on a downward spiral for the last thirty years and has been basically reduced to a circus sideshow act. Noche Latina is just an additional sideshow act in the circus.

It breaks my heart.
