Ilhan Omar, the Minnesota congresswoman, is the subject of a Thursday report claiming her real name is not Ilhan Omar and that she has used a different last name. The report identifies her as Ilhan Nur Said Elmi and links that assertion to a federal investigation into her past, but the claim has not been independently established in public records.

The Western Journal, citing a Fox News report published Thursday, said two people familiar with the investigation described Omar’s “real name” as Ilhan Nur Said Elmi. The account did not provide documents establishing that assertion, and the people cited were not identified.
That is a consequential gap. A source’s description of a person’s name, particularly in the context of an active investigation, is not by itself proof of a legal identity, an alias or wrongdoing.
