Man Sentenced to 9 Years for Random Stabbing of Woman, 71, Outside Union Station

A man has pleaded guilty to attempted murder and been sentenced to nine years in prison for a brutal, random knife attack on a 71-year-old South Loop woman as she walked her dog near Union Station in June 2024.

Prosecutors said Wilson Barreno, 27, attacked the woman just before 2 p.m. in the 200 block of South Clinton Street, hooking his left arm around her neck and using his right hand to stab her repeatedly on the right side of her body and neck.
