Louisville Mayor, 64, Is Punched In Unprovoked Assault During City Event

Andrea Blanco, Daily Mail, June 19, 2022

Kentucky Police has launched a manhunt for a man who punched Democrat Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer.

The attack happened while Fischer was at an event at the Fourth Street Live entertainment complex located in Downtown Louisville, Kentucky on Saturday.

Officials confirmed that Fischer ‘is doing fine’ after the unprovoked assault.

Police said an investigation has been opened and more information will be released as it becomes available.

Surveillance footage stills show the moment that Fischer was attacked. It then shows the suspect fleeing southbound on Fourth Street.

It is unclear whether Fischer was targeted or the attack was random and unprovoked.

Authorities have not disclosed what the mayor was doing when he was punched but he did confirm he attended a Pride event that day, while several Juneteenth celebrations were also hosted by Fourth Street Live over the weekend.

‘Awesome energy at the Pride Parade! Louisville stands with our LGBTQ+ residents today & every day. You make our city better & stronger & we pledge to continue the work…’ Fischer wrote on Twitter, making no reference to the punch.

Fischer has served three terms in office and will not be able to run again due to term limits.

Authorities have asked anyone with information about the suspect to contact police at 502-574-5673.
