TWO hero men were reportedly beaten unconscious in the street after they tried to stop two girls being raped.

The men were rushed to hospital with serious injuries after a shocking attack in the early hours of the morning.

It’s now emerged that the casualties, 19 and 25, were stepping in to stop an alleged sex assault when they were beaten.

Friends and family say they quickly tried to help after seeing two young women in distress in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent.

One of the men was raced into theatre for facial reconstruction surgery after horror unfolded just before 5.18am yesterday.

Staffordshire Police say detectives are still hunting those responsible.

In posts to Facebook group Stoke-on-Trent Live, one man said: “My stepson and his friend showed pure bravery to prevent the rape of two girls.

“These two deserve a medal for putting themselves in danger.

“My stepson has multiple broken bones in his face due to the guys stamping on his face.”

A woman said: “Just so everyone knows, my brother and his friend stopped an attempted rape and they got beat up for it.”

Others said the men are “heroes”.

“Without them, the outcome for the two young girls would have been horrendous,” one said.

“Take a bow lads. You should be proud of yourselves, regardless of the outcome.”

Another said: “These two men were attacked because they were trying to rescue someone from being raped.
