Mike Ditka on Redskins Name Debate: ‘It’s So Much Horses*** It’s Incredible’

Michael W. Chapman, CNS News, August 21, 2014

NFL Hall of Famer Mike Ditka, former Super Bowl-winning coach of the Chicago Bears and a current NFL commentator for ESPN, said the debate over changing the name of the Washington Redskins was “silly” and “asinine,” driven by “the political correct idiots of America,” and constituted “so much horse—-  it’s incredible.”

“This is so stupid, it’s appalling,” said Coach Ditka in a recent interview with Washington Redskins historian Mike Richman. “And I hope that owner [Dan Snyder] keeps fighting for it and never changes it, because the Redskins are part of an American football history, and it should never be anything but the Washington Redskins. That’s the way it is.”

In the interview, Richman asked, “What’s all the stink over the Redskin name?”

Ditka, who lead the Bears to 6 first place finishes in the NFC Central and the Super Bowl XX win in 1985, said, “It’s so much horse—- it’s incredible. We’re going to let the liberals of the world run this world? It was said out of reverence, out of pride to the American Indian. Even though it was called a Redskin, what are you going to call them, a Proudskin? This is so stupid, it’s appalling.”

“It’s been the name of the team since the beginning of football,” said Ditka.  “It has nothing to do with something that happened lately, or something that somebody dreamed up. This was the name, period. I mean, leave it alone. I mean, these people are silly–asinine, actually, in my opinion.”

{snip}

When asked whether he knows Dan Snyder personally and what he thinks of his efforts to uphold the name, Ditka said, “I admire him for it. Really, I think it’s tradition. It’s history. It’s part of the National Football League. It was about Sammy Baugh and all the guys who were Redskins way back then.”

“You know, I didn’t think that Lombardi and Halas never had a problem with it,” said Ditka.  “Why would all these other idiots have a problem with the name? I’m sorry. I’m not very tolerant when it comes to the liberals who complain about everything.”

Sorry Mr. Ditka. You’re considered an old white man (ie, racist). Your opinions are no longer relevant.

I am surprised the pantie-waistes who run espn havent fired him or enrolled him in sensitivity training yet

    • Oil Can Harry

You know the corporate cowards at ESPN will lower the boom on him.

They recently suspended Stephen A. Smith and Max Kellerman for utterly trivial reasons.

      • IBWHITE

Max Kellerman is an anti-White boob who deserves to be run off. He was an aspiring rapper years ago and never misses an opportunity to try and criticize any talented White boxer.

    • MBlanc46

The idea of Mike Ditka in a sensitivity training session brings a smile to the face.

  • MekongDelta69

I’ve always loved Ditka (and Butkus) from their playing days. (You know – when football (and sports in general) were still somewhat White, and fun to watch.)

Now they want to fire him. I swear to God – ESPN (and ALL sportscasters) are (and have always been) even more leftist than the far-leftist MSM.

    • jane johnson

I’ve been a football fan for going on 40 years, but since Summerall and Madden stopped calling games I watch with the sound muted.

      • Paleoconn

Summerall and Madden were the best tandem. I enjoy Buck and Aikmam from the current crop of color men and analysts. Now I’m watching Simms and the other guy with Mike Carey, the retired ref. I lost respect for the latter when he recently came out saying he refused to do Redskins games because the name is offensive.

        • jane johnson

Graphics are so good nowadays that it’s easy to keep up with the action without having to listen to all the babbling. If I had to hear Kenny Albert call a 3-and-out a “drive” one more time, I might’ve chucked my beer right through the screen. Al and Cris aren’t too bad, though.

          • DLRisVH

Al is good but Cris worships at the alter of negro way too much for me.

  • I now find it a lot harder to care that much about whether the Redskins keep its nickname nor not after some of its players ran onto the field holding their hands in the air (“Hands Up Don’t Shoot”) in their most recent exhibition game. Then again, the ability to hold one’s hands up in the air to present one’s self in a non-threatening matter to cops is an important life skill for many players in the National Felon League.

    • SheilaTX

Why any White man would want to waste his time rooting for “his” group of feral negroes is beyond me. Surely they have better things to do. Stop supporting blacks and black institutions. Stop feeding the beast.

  • JustJeff

Who would win in a fight: Mike Ditka or the media?

    • Anglokraut

In this case, I’d still give good odds on Ditka to ride this out; it took six years of openly anti-White governing to shake the sleeping Whitey, but it is finally happening.

  • Rhialto

I am a bit cynical. These may well be his opinions, but he knows the consequences of publicizing them. If he wanted to keep his position, he would keep these opinions to himself.

I think Mr. Ditka wants to quit commentating, and have his contract bought out by ultra PC NBC.

  • Lion’s Mane

I’m just glad that Mr. Ditka had the courage to speak his true opinion. If the liberal media penalize him for speaking out, they’ll only show their misuse of power for all the world to see. It’s encouraging to see someone dare to say what he really thinks. (Think of the lines from the song ‘My Way’ about ‘to say the words he truly feels / and not the words of one who kneels.’

  • I don’t think ESPN will fire Ditka before Sunday. After all, they want to get through Saturday night hoping that when the Rams play at Cleveland in the preseason, that Michael Sam will sack Johnny Manziel, just to be able to milk the intersecting story lines all night.

    • I doubt Ditka cares whether he gets fired. He’s 74, and has plenty of money. What does he need ESPN for?

  • antiquesunlight

I saw this the other day and laughed so hard. I don’t know anything about him as a football personage, but I am a fan of his for this.

    • willbest

When Obama supporters at the Chicago Tribune sabotaged Jack Ryan’s chances to beat Obama for IL Senate by getting his sealed divorce proceedings with Seven of Nine unsealed one of the people the IL GOP tried to get to run was Da Coach.

If Ditka would have stepped up then, you would be talking about President Clinton right now instead of Obama because Ditka could ritualistically kill a goat and still get elected statewide in IL

      • Spikeygrrl

I was there too, and have been screaming my dam’fool head off about Soetoro since…but nobody listened. 🙁

When I get REALLY morose, I wonder what an alternate history would look like with Ryan, after 12 increasingly influential years in the Senate, tossing his hat into the 2016 Presidential ring….GAWD what a candidate…!

(Sigh.) Hey, a grrl can dream.

  • Eagle_Eyed

I know it is of no use, but let me try logic one more time on liberals. If “Redskins” is so offensive, why is labeling other races by skin tone (like “white” for Europeans or “black” for Africans) not?

Of course we all know it’s a game, despite their whining about a nickname liberals hardly care about the poverty or alcoholism on Indian reservations. They get worked up over a nickname because it’s a way to attack the historic American culture and people.

  • jane johnson

Keep da name; change da logo”

    • Anglokraut

Then all teams with Amerind imagery in their logos would have to change: the Cleveland Indians, the Chicago Blackhawks, the Kansas City Chiefs, etc. Besides, that would still be capitulation, and eventually nothing short of disbanding the “insensitively” named teams, and the expunging of the team’s records and history would be acceptable. Erase their very memory.

      • MBlanc46

        Many have already done so.

      • jane johnson

I was just kidding, but lots of people must’ve had the same idea because when I did an image search for redskin potatoes, about half of them were on helmets.
Just think; Mr. Potatohead could be their new mascot.

      • The libtards will eventually get around to deciding that the team named “Pirates” is offensive to Somali criminals.

      • anony

While they’re at it, how many States will have to change their names?

        • Anglokraut

Oklahoma, at least, but perhaps Utah (for the Ute tribe), and the Datokas.

          • anony

Well, others immediately come to mind such as: Kentucky, Idaho, Tennessee, Mississippi, Massachusetts, and probably others.

          • Most US states have Amerind names:

            Alabama (1)
            Alaska (2)
            Arizona (3)
            Arkansas (4)
            Connecticut (5)
            Delaware (6)
            Hawaii (a Polynesian name) (7)
            Idaho (8)
            Illinois (9)
            Iowa (10)
            Kansas (11)
            Kentucky (12)
            Massachusetts (13)
            Michigan (14)
            Minnesota (15)
            Mississippi (16)
            Missouri (17)
            Nebraska (18)
            Nevada (19)
            North Dakota (20)
            Ohio (21)
            Oklahoma (22)
            South Dakota (23)
            Tennessee (24)
            Texas (25)
            Utah (26)
            Wisconsin (27)
            Wyoming (28)

That’s 28 out of 50, which puts us at 56%.

        • anton drexler

Indiana will have to become Native Americana.

This is supposed to teach us how others feel:

      • jane johnson

Ha Ha Ha. Doesn’t look remotely like anyone I know, and I know a LOT of good old boys. Billy Che Cyrus, maybe?

        • TruthBeTold

And if that image was used, white people would run with it; they’d have fun with the image. Just like they have fun with the Vikings and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

White people can laugh at themselves. They can take a joke. Not only do they have white skin, they have thick skin.

    • Dale McNamee

You could use “Beer Nuts” as a logo… Their peanuts have red outer skins…

    • anony

Best laugh of my day! Thanks.

  • anony

When this “Redskins” faux issue arose a few years ago, IIRC, many tribal chiefs came together and said they felt honored that the name Redskins was being used.

  • Let the American Indians (with feathers) take their casino monies and buy the team. They could then name it anything they want. I don’t care because pro football is just too often a manifestation of Negro worship by stupid white Americans. Spend your Sundays working calculus problems or planting a garden and you’ll be better off than worrying about this junk.

    • Paleoconn

The thing is the Injuns don’t care. Most of them are honored by warrior depictions of their people. It’s the White liberals who pretend to be offended on behalf of the red man. Is there any more loathsome creature on this good earth than the White liberal?

    • Making fishing lures here. I turned out three copies of the Old Creek “Chub Weedbug Type-2” plug lure this morning. Producing something useful is better entertainment than anything on TV, Negro Felon League games or otherwise.

Amerinds using casino money to buy the team is a great idea, except that overwhelmingly they are not the ones pretending to be “offended”. It’s almost all white Cultural Marxists who are using this tempest-in-a-teapot to posture as being morally superior to the rest of us. Suppose the Redskins do change their name to something PC. The same white libtards will immediately find something else to pretend to be “outraged” over.

I hope the Redskins do change their name, but to something genuinely tasteless, like the “AIDS-Raddled Hookers”, the “Chlamydia Queens”, the “Ebolanistas” or the “Homonecrobestialitoids”. That would place a name like “Redskins” in its proper context, and might cause the leftist whiners to shut their pie-holes for a day or two out of pure shock.

      • tancred guiscard

“chlamydia queens”. Heh, Clap for the Clap! Im quite puzzled by this nation’s affinity for adults playing kid’s games.

        • Pro ball games stopped being family entertainment long ago, anyway, what with the terrible behavior of the players and the high price of tickets.

  • Look what I found.

Ironically, both the baseball and football teams referred to in this piece eventually moved out of Boston.

Incidentally, St. Louis had both a football and baseball Cardinals from 1960 to 1987.

  • Caucasoid88

When did Americans become such pussies?

I think it happened when white males conceded power out of their innate kindness to feminists and colored people, I mean people of color. The result, expectedly, is everyone is now a weak-minded, sensitive little baby.

Watching sports that are dominated by negroes is money flushed down the toilet. As a White man, you should not watch any professional sport other than hockey, golf(now T.W. is on his way out), and tennis. If, you can’t bear this, at least try to restrict your viewing to those teams that actually have some Whites playing. (Besides the QB), but more than just offensive linemen. Come on! Is a Safety too much? Give the White dudes a chance. I love fing football. I stopped watching basketball twenty years ago. Couldn’t stand the whole no Whites thing. I had season’s tickets to the Knicks once upon a time. Even so, loved the Celts, Danny Ainge, anyone? What has happened? My beloved game of baseball is hispanic city. This country sucks! Bring back the morality of “Leave it to Beaver”. Wally and the Beav were righteous. June and Ward were outstanding as parents. Now, they are something to be mocked. REALLY????? Back then, we knew a liberal and he was hated, hello Eddie Haskell! That’s right, I consider Liberals, slimy, lying, say whatever insincere thing you have to say to get your way, as modern day Eddie Haskells. These swarmy Eddie Haskells are trying to do a Leave it to Beaver 2.0. OOh, we think gays are terrific! (What do you think Ward would have told the Beav about gays?) That’s right! And, Ward was correct. Now, I don’t think back then that Ward would have been so forthcoming on negroes. But, then again, the Cleavers lived in an all White neighborhood. As God intended.

    • The real life Ken Osmond was nothing like his Eddie Haskell character. He was on the LAPD motorcycle squad for quite some time after LITB.

I remember at one point Wally had a throwaway line about Beaver marrying his best friend at the time, Gilbert.

As far as blacks, the whole series had only one black with a very short speaking part (which necessitates them being in the closing credits), and even that was in the final season. Other than that, the only other black I saw was a background crowd extra, just one.

Realize as someone with Ward Cleaver holding a noose in front of aghast June as his Disqus avatar, I am second to none on LITB trivia(lities).

      • IKUredux

You do realize that I don’t conflate Eddie Haskell with the actor who portrayed him? Right? And throwaway lines about affection were plenty, back in the day. “If you like (it,him, her) why don’t you marry them? You know, back in the day when being married meant something!

  • MBlanc46

Da Coach has never been one of my favorite people, but he’s bang on about this.

  • Paleoconn

Well done, Mike Ditka. I like the panel he’s on Sunday mornings on ESPN, but sometimes even those respectable blacks act silly, but Ditka is the essence of decorum and manliness.

  • Dalliance

They should rename it to the Washington Whiteskins (and adopt a colonial soldier logo) and then let the libs try to explain how Whiteskins is supremacist while Redskins is disparaging. (Yeah, I know, it would be funny to see a bunch of blacks on the field under that name, but I don’t think the argument is that the Washington Redskins are lacking in redskins.)

  • bubo

I never really understood why “indians” were so revered. All they were doing was squatting in the Americas. No civilization to speak of. Few, if any, had any sort of written language or history. Once encountering the European they quickly tried to enlist him to fight against the next tribe a mile down the road as that was the scope of their existence.

  • He must have been sniffing too much Tinactin.

I finally read the comments by the black worshipping White men who spend their weekends and Monday nights worshipping at the Church of Black Sports. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; if 50 thousand White women a year have some sort of brief relationship with a black man a year, who are the 100 million White men who spend their time worshipping Black Sports to say anything about White women and black men.
No race conscious White man or amren reader should be watching black sports.

You don’t purposely go to black neighborhoods for shopping, movies etc. So why go to black TV venues to worship blacks?

  • Augustus3709

The real problem with the NFL is not the Redskins, it is the Whiteskins who founded and built the league but have been relegated to the stands, rather than the rightful place on the field.

In two short generations the NFL went from 100% White to majority black. The startling lessons of demographic decline in White sports leagues should ring the warning bell to what will happen to White civilization as a whole.

When it was a White league they didn’t need unsportsmanlike penalties and celebration rules for taunting and gyrating and jungle jive dancing . The race changes, and the culture changes, for the worse.
