President Obama on Monday described a surge in unaccompanied immigrant children caught trying to cross the Mexican border as an “urgent humanitarian situation,” as the White House asked Congress for an extra $1.4 billion in federal money to cope. Obama said the U.S. will temporarily house the children at two military bases.

Obama appointed the head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Craig Fugate, to be in charge of the situation.

In its new estimates, the government said as many as 60,000 children, mostly from Central America, could be caught this year trying to cross the Mexican border illegally, costing the U.S. more than $2.28 billion to house, feed and transport the children to shelters or reunite them with relatives already living in the United States. The new estimate is about $1.4 billion more than the government asked for in Obama’s budget request sent to Congress earlier this year.

Obama described the growing humanitarian issue at the border in a presidential memorandum Monday that outlined a government-wide response led by Fugate.

{snip}

{snip} Last month, the federal government opened an emergency operations center at a border headquarters in South Texas to help coordinate the efforts and the Office of Refugee Resettlement, a division of the Health and Human Services Department, turned to the Defense Department for the second time since 2012 to help house children in barracks at Lackland Air Force Base near San Antonio.

Mark Greenberg, an assistant secretary at the Health and Human Services Department, said about 1,000 children were being housed at the Texas base and as many as 600 others could soon be housed at a U.S. Navy base in Southern California.

The number of children found trying to cross the Mexican border without parents has skyrocketed in recent years. Between 2008 and 2011, the number of children landing in the custody of Refugee Resettlement fluctuated between 6,000 and 7,500 per year. In 2012 border agents apprehended 13,625 unaccompanied children and that number surged even more–to 24,668–last year. The total is expected to exceed 60,000 this year.

More than 90 percent of those sheltered by the government are from Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador, many driven north by pervasive violence and poverty in their home countries. They are held in agency-contracted shelters while a search is conducted for family, a sponsor or a foster parent who can care for them through their immigration court hearings, where many will apply for asylum or other special protective status. Border Patrol agents have said that smugglers are increasingly notifying authorities once they get children across the Rio Grande so that they can be picked up.

Rampant crime and poverty across Central America and a desire to reunite with parents or other relatives are thought to be driving many of the young immigrants. Munoz said Monday the administration is aware of false rumors that have circulated that migrant children who get to this country would be automatically allowed to stay here or benefit from some future immigration reform legislation.

Migrant kids remain in removal proceedings even after they’re reunited with their parents here, though many have been able to win permission from a judge to stay in the U.S.

The Office of Management and Budget said in a two-page letter to Sen. Barbara Mikulski, the chairwoman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, last month that the increase in children trying to cross the border alone could cost the government as much as $2.28 billion. {snip}

They are spending on housing feeding and reuniting these kids with relatives, knowing they will one day become registered Democratic voters.

The money would be better spent on a wall, guard dogs and armed troops at the border.

    But the insanity continues.

    • Kristinitis

Voting’s got nothing to do with it. The point is to make private land-owners and people with real jobs that pay the taxes that fund all the food stamps a minority, and “rich” minorities get no sympathy from the multi-millions who toil in tiny apartments and buy their groceries at Wal-mart with their free EBT card.

      • Luca

Minorities are coveted for their voting skills. The elites throw them crumbs paid for by taxpayers. Then they tell them they are victims and promise them a better future through welfare. The useful-idiot minorities continue to vote for more benefits. This is as immutable as the law of gravity and got its start with FDR. Blacks voted overwhelmingly Republican (the party of Lincoln) until FDR started the entitlement syndrome. LBJ kicked it into hyper-space in 1965. It is now carved in stone.

      • archer

Why are they our problem? Don’t tell me the Mexicans are not busing them close to our border to stick it to us even more.

    • rowingfool

$2.28 billion divided by 60,000 urchins equals $38,000 per urchin. Wouldn’t we all like to receive that kind of largesse from Uncle Sam.

      • Luca

That money would be better spent on 60,000 boots on the border.

        • ElComadreja

With orders to shoot on sight.

  • Non-whites flooding in, virtually all of them will be allowed to stay here, and the Federal government has to spend more money.

To Democrats, this is a feature, not a bug. So it makes me wonder why they’re complaining instead of partying.

  • Samuel_Morton

Once again, nobody is asking why it’s OK for Mexico to tell these Guatemalan ragamuffins to bugger off, but not the US.

    • Einsatzgrenadier

It’s because the US is a universal nation transcending all historical particularities. Anyone can become an American by stepping foot on American soil because America has an infinite capacity to absorb foreigners from all around the globe, no matter how racially or culturally dissimilar to earlier European immigrants. The federal governments imagines that it can turn America into a miniature version of the UN and we would still end up with the same American civilization, with the same representative democracy, western culture, internal political stability and first world standard of living.

      • Bossman

American democracy is a work in progress.

        • If by “work in progress” you mean “undergoing total destruction” you’re right on the mark.

      • rowingfool

Agree with the ironic tone of the first paragraph, but the people pulling the strings don’t want America to have an “American civilization, with the same representative democracy, western culture, internal political stability and first world standard of living”. That’s not how they envision America at all.

They want an ignorant, needy, desperate horde that are easily swayed by their stomachs and respond to simple stimuli such as what is offered by mass entertainment. In no way do they want a confident, educated phalanx of concerned citizens, aware of their place in history and capable of discerning and acting in their own self interest.

That is why watchdog groups such as the SPLC and ADL are given free rein to target and vilify any group that threatens the present by remembering the past.

For their plan to succeed the past must be erased. Each individual must be ensconced in a fuzzy buzz of sensations that keeps his consciousness grounded in the Now. This is no place for the ancestor worship and respect for tradition that grounds the far-East. An individual with shallow roots can be weeded out with little fear of his protesting. He will hardly be aware of his loss, while will others around him will not note his disappearance.

The recent deluge of home foreclosures illustrates this perfectly. Individual lives ruined by an apparently rational, legal process that Americans just accept as legitimate, while the Big Wheel known as Investment Banks inexorably grinds on.

    • Bon, From the Land of Babble

Mexico doesn’t want them any more than we do. They believe Mexico should be for the Mexican people, not Guatemalans.

That’s why their immigration laws are stricter than those of the U.S.

Walls work to keep out unwanted migrants. Ask the Israelis.

I’ll just go ahead and assume that the entire media has voluntarily agreed not to ask awkward questions about what kind of people would send their small children on such a journey. It might lead to equally awkward answers.

  • Stan D Mute

Of course Barakabama’s Marxist cronies have nothing to do with recruiting all these kids to make the dangerous (don’t want to get caught in Mexico!) trip from Central America. These kids just got the idea all on their own by reading the New York Times articles on how Barakabama plans to grant backdoor amnesty to illegal kids by either enlisting them in his Marxist Stormtroopers .. er .. US Military and/or enrolling them in his Marxist Training Centers .. er .. US Colleges with in-state tuition and government grants. In fact, we should be thrilled that such smart kids figured this out all on their own and delighted to have such brilliant minds among us in the future!

  • Bill Moore

    Hello,

    I already stated my solution.

Use C130s to return them to Mexico. Load up a C130 with as many as will fit, fly across the border, and once over Mexico, just push them out the back. From about a thousand feet.

Once the word gets around, they’ll stop coming. And the ones that are here will gladly walk back across the border instead instead of us giving them an airplane ride.

Problem solved. And, probably with a minimum of lives lost.

    Just My Thoughts,
    Bill Moore

    • Ahnenerbe ᛟ

I totally agree and if no one with gumption is able to herd them out the back I would gladly do it for free.

Huge wall, wire atop. Armed soldiers with shoot to kill orders.
Also, land mines would be a nice touch.

      • Bossman

That can’t be done. Mexico is a friend, neighbor and trading partner of the USA. Stuff like what you’re describing can only happen between hostile countries that are at war with each other.

        • Bon, From the Land of Babble

Flooding non-Whites into White lands to steal resources from Native Born White Americans is an act of war.

          • Bossman

The UN does not define it that way.

          • Martel

Why is the UN a legitimate source for such definitions?

          • Bossman

The UN is the body that OK’s any declaration of war.

          • Bon, From the Land of Babble

Do you think non-Whites stealing resources and living space from Whites and ONLY Whites is an act of love?

Here’s what the UN says about genocide:

Section C of the 1948 United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide:

            ( c ) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
Section C applies to what anti-whites are doing to my race:

Flooding our countries with non-whites, force integrating our communities, encouraging us to blend ourselves out of existence and attacking anyone who opposes these things are imposing conditions of life calculated to bring about the physical destruction of my race. It’s genocide.

Despite what you or obama says, UN “law” does not trump American law.

          • Bon, From the Land of Babble

Of course not. The UN is anti-White and is on board with flooding White and ONLY White countries with non-Whites.

In recent years up to 95% of the refugees coming to the U.S. were referred by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) or were the relatives of UN-picked refugees. Until the late 90’s the U.S. picked the large majority of refugees for resettlement in the U.S.

Rampant crime and poverty across Central America and a desire to reunite with parents or other relatives are thought to be driving many of the young immigrants.

    – Fox News, June 3, 2014

Why is the inability of other people to create civilized communities our fault? Why is it our responsibility to make sacrifices to help?

    • Ahnenerbe ᛟ

It’s all for the glory of jesus. You see.

    • SentryattheGate

Rampant crime and poverty is nothing new to Central America! And high birthrates! I agree, not our problem! Mexico, I heard, has lots of orphans, abandoned on the streets to become gangs of young criminals. Mexican police round them up occasionally at night, bring them into the countryside and shoot them! Hispanics have most of the western hemisphere with it’s wealth of natural resources, let them figure out something!

      • Bill Moore

        Hello SentryattheGate,

I understand the same thing is done in Brazil. The police pick up the street kids, take them to the city dump, shoot them and throw them in with the garbage.

That’s sad, but it’s their country, and they can make their own laws.

        Bill Moore

        • SentryattheGate

Yes, let them curb their birthrate like the First World does! Animals curb their population when they sense that there’s not enough to eat. Survival of the fittest enhances the gene pool! I understand that in wolf packs, only the alpha male and female produce offspring, that the rest of the pack helps to feed and care for.

        • ElComadreja

We have been sold down the river by both parties. Any perceived difference between the two is an illusion anyway.

          • JohnEngelman

That is largely true on immigration, but not on other issues. Democrats really do want to raise taxes on the rich. I know I do.

By the way, yours is the kind of argument I heard from Marxists during the War in Vietnam. Back then there really were Marxists in the U.S.

        • John

“Republicans are complicit too….” So true. Sheldon Adelson and his ilk buy off the RINOs while his coreligionists buy off the Dems. Together, they play both sides against the middle while the media sits back and provides the sob story backgrounds about the “children” and other assorted misdirections, lies if you will, such as the “Iranian threat” (not). Meanwhile, the ongoing destruction of what used to be a good country in every respect continues to be destroyed for the benefit of this hostile elite. History repeats itself.

  • dd121

So spend the money on the National Guard and surge them back into Mexico.

    • ElComadreja

Not with the bunch we have in power and that includes both parties.

  • Magician

They are acually men in their early 20s. Notice how it never, ever discusses the actual age of the “children”. And how likely is it that five year old boys and girls safely walk across the border as undocumented immigrants? With no money for food or shelter?

Same thing happens in Sweden. The Swedish media reports that they are getting so and so number of children refugees every year but they all are young men in early 20s. And many of them intentionally injure themselves to legally prevent the Swedish government from deporting them.

    • ElComadreja

      The Trayvon Martin syndrome.

  • Three simple words, forming an easily repeatable mantra: Send them back. Along with their relatives who abandoned them in their thurd world hellhole.

  • Bon, From the Land of Babble

The flood of children is putting a tremendous strain on government resources… It costs the U.S. $252 a day to care for each child.

We do not owe a thing to the children of a foreign country. They are here to steal resources that should go to American children and bring over tens of millions more just like them: destitute, unemployed, unskilled and uneducated.

If we had real leaders, they would make it very clear to the governments of Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and every other 3rd world hell hole that ALL of these children will be repatriated immediately and ALL American aide will be cut off.

The sending countries should be punished severely for allowing its children, some as young as three, to be let loose like dogs.

The administration seems powerless to stop most of the border breaches…

Because this traitorous administration doesn’t want to stop them; they want to use them as weapons of war: to replace White Americans in a White homeland, steal wealth from White Americans to pay for this outrage and hand over White living space to 3rd world foreign nationals.

It is an act of war.

    • Bossman

The USA has tied itself to Mexico and Central America through trade, military and other bilateral agreements. The price that it will have to pay for this greater integration is a greater tolerance of their nationals.

      • Bon, From the Land of Babble

“Nationals” who live on American soil are still as of this writing, subjected to American laws and the American Constitution as SCOTUS ruled in 2000.

An Obama EO in this matter is an attempt to circumvent the 2000 Supreme Court ruling in Rice v. Cayetano that Hawaii state-based law providing benefits and preferences to Native Hawaiians was unconstitutional.

Cajuns are an identifiable ethnic group in Louisiana who have had a continuous presence there for over two hundred years. Their ancestors may have been none too pleased when Napoleon sold the lands of the Louisiana Purchase to America, and they had no opportunity to assert sovereignty. Should Cajuns be allowed to seek tribal status? Should the Amish of Pennsylvania or the Hasidic Jews of New York be allowed to seek tribal status? Both groups have far more separation from mainstream society, much lower rates of intermarriage, and all- encompassing rules governing the lives of members than do Native Hawaiians. Both groups also have histories stretching far back.

–Letter from four members of the U.S. Civil Rights Commission to obama.

      • GeneticsareDestiny

We can have trade and military agreements with Mexico and Central American countries without letting their citizens in. It’s not necessary to let them in. They can produce products in their home countries to sell to us. There’s no reason they have to come here to do these jobs.

We simply don’t need them, and they don’t have any inherent, inalienable right to live in the United States. If they want to live in a nicer country, they should work on improving their home countries.

        • ElComadreja

We can live without trade from these countries. They need us much more than we need them.

          • GeneticsareDestiny

Very true. The United States could probably produce almost everything it needs on its own, if necessary. They are very dependent on us, though.

It’s considered an “urgent humanitarian situation,” because this derelict administration has no intentions of sending them back and cannot figure out what to do with or how to subsidize them. Rest assured they will find the 2.2 billion to care for these invaders, which should have been sent back within the first 24 hours of being apprehended.

  • none of your business

The money won’t be spent on the aliens. It will be all spent on salaries for “executive directors” of non profit do gooder govt contractors. I saw a youtube of the poor, pitiful children in a bus station. Nothing but 300 pd women in their 20’s, not a child among them.

    • IstvanIN

  • MBlanc46

I’d pop for the $1.4 billion in a heartbeat if it were for kicking their raggedy little bottoms back across the Mexican border. But not a penny to assist the little buggers in moving in.

  • GeneticsareDestiny

We should be deporting these kids back to their home nations. Every single one. Just wait until there’s enough kids from a single country (Guatemala, for instance) to fill a plane, then fly them all back at once. The Mexican kids can be driven back in a bus, since that would be cheaper.

If the parents aren’t in the home country to take charge of the children upon arrival (because they’re squatting illegally in the U.S., or for any other reason), the kids should be released into the care of their home governments.

    • Bill Moore

      Hello,

We should return illegal immigrants to Mexico.

My plan would be to put as many as will fit into a C130, then fly to Mexico, and at about 1000 feet, just push them out the back.

It wouldn’t be too long before the word would get out, and they would start self-deporting before we fly them back to Mexico.

And they wouldn’t keep pouring into our country.

      Thank you,
      Bill Moore

Wondering where we got the $1.4 Billion for this mess…

I suppose Old Yellin just tapped a few more billion into existence over at The Fed and then loaned us the cash, which we will have to pay back, with interest… courtesy of YOU, Mr. and Mrs. Taxpayer Producer…

The entire financial mess we’re in can be explained so that even the biggest simp in America can understand it:

The Fed has the only dollar in existence.
Our Government wants to borrow it, and promises to pay it back – with interest.
Where does the second dollar come from?

That we are paying to house millions of these 3rd world mouthbreathers only makes it that much worse…
