California Affirmative Action Revival Bill Is Dead

Katy Murphy, Mercury News, March 18, 2014

A bill that would have let California voters reconsider the state’s 16-year-old ban on race-conscious college admissions is off the table, its author announced on Monday.

Constitutional Amendment 5 passed the state Senate in late January on a party-line vote but ran into an unexpected wave of resistance–mostly, from Asian-Americans concerned that affirmative action policies would unfairly disadvantage Asian applicants to the intensely competitive University of California system.

Change.org petition to stop the referendum had more than 112,000 signatures on Monday.

After an about-face by three Asian-American senators who voted for the bill in January, Sen. Ed Hernandez, D-West Covina, is putting the bill on hold–and making no promises about its revival.

“I’d like to bring it back,” Hernandez said. “I believe in it. I believe we need to make sure there’s equal opportunity for everyone in the state of California.”

Last week, saying they had received thousands of calls and emails from constituents, Senators Leland Yee, D-San Francisco; Ted Lieu, D-Torrance; and Carol Liu, D-La Cañada/Flintridge asked Assembly Speaker John Perez to stop the bill from advancing any further.

“As lifelong advocates for the Asian-American and other communities, we would never support a policy that we believed would negatively impact our children,” they wrote in a letter to Perez.

In 1996, California became the first state to outlaw affirmative action in public university admissions and state hiring, a policy that took effect in 1998. The amendment would have allowed voters to lift that ban, either this fall or in 2016.

Asian-Americans make up about 38 percent of UC undergraduates and have a high rate of freshman admission to its nine undergraduate campuses–73 percent in 2013, compared to 63 percent of all in-state applicants.

Some in the Asian-American community, which has historically supported affirmative action policies, still believe race should be considered in college admissions. Today, although some Asian groups–including the Southeast Asian Resource and Action Center and Filipino Advocates for Justice in Union City and Oakland–have pushed for the use of race, the scarcity of seats in UC has provoked intense opposition among others.

Republicans have tried to seize on the divide. The top GOP leaders of both chambers spoke at “Stop SCA 5” forum Sunday in Cupertino, sponsored by the San Francisco-based Chinese-American Institute for Empowerment.

But nobody seems to be concerned that affirmative action policies unfairly disadvantage White applicant to competitive universities.

Republicans are hopelessly in the minority in California, but they’re exploiting the situation to exert some influence against affirmative action.

Why can’t they be that smart when they actually run things?

    Yay!

      GFYS !!!!!!

I oppose affirmative action. A number of posters here are in favor of an affirmative action policy in favor of white Gentiles at the expense of Orientals and Jews.

Eight Assembly Democrats belong to the Asian and Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus, and if two or more of them vote ‘no,’ the bill will fail..Stunned by an unexpected uprising within their party’s minority base, Democratic lawmakers on Monday dropped a push to reverse California’s 16-year-old ban on affirmative action in college admissions.

What is a social engineer to do?

These non-White politicians’ political power is based on blaming Whites and now that Whites are a minority they’re turning on each other…but they’ll still continue to vote Democrat.

Over the last several weeks, the three senators who have had second thoughts about the referendum — Leland Yee, D-San Francisco; Ted Lieu, D-Torrance; and Carol Liu, D- La Cañada/Flintridge.

All three, pro illegal immigrant, all three recently voted to grant illegal immigrants driver’s licenses.

Imagine the following (and, keep in mind that Whites are now a minority in the state of California):

“As lifelong advocates for the Asian American White community, we would never support a policy that we believed would negatively impact our children,” the letter states.”

The underlying message here is that it only matters if the students being hurt by AA are non-White.

    Lefty Asians vs. lefty Hispanics.

Nobody to cheer for here; nothing here for Whites.

Good for those Asians in California who would rather compete than take a seat at the back of the bus, as they used to say. I just wish whites would also get tired of bending over.

If I have this quote from berserker correct……… “Whites create, Asians imitate, and blacks desecrate”

    That’s one of my favorites.

    • benvad

It is really as simple as that.

    • slash345

      I think it’s:

      Whites create
      Asians Imitate
      Arabs detonate
      Hispanics procreate
      Blacks desecrate

      or something similar

We are getting hit from every direction. Even as I type this, consider the potential candidate for US surgeon general, who is of South Asian descent. This jackazz has ideas on how to use this office to further the second amendment/ confiscation agenda.

    • That’ll never happen now because SCotUS has already ruled that the Second Amendment is an individual right. A surgeon general can’t overrule the Supreme Court.

      • Romulus

They attempt to employ the backdoor approach like their testing in CT. Google ; Lt. Vance’ gun conversation with caller in CT” A link should appear. Medical professionals tactic will be to define who and what constitutes “crazy”. Any found to have -right- leanings, will be considered for retraining or disarmed. You get the idea.

So, as people should realize-especially those calling for race war-we don’t need that. Notice what happens when just one racial group of fair intelligence and organizational skill turns against liberalism. IT WINS! That is what Whites must learn. The Asians stood together, and backed THEIR interests. If only we Whites would do the same on a national level. Even if we weren’t the majority, we could still cause a lot of trouble for the libs. Note that the blacks couldn’t do a damn thing about this either. People here, please take note.

    • IstvanIN

If we stood together we wouldn’t be in this mess. Too often we fight against each other on issues that affect every white person negatively.

        i.e. WWII

If the Aryan Brotherhood/Woods weren’t involved in major criminal activities, they’d be a good group to follow.

1% of U.S. Prison population, but responsible for 40% of the murders.
That’s white power really put to the test. They remind me of the Berserker Scandinavians and their furor in Battle.

        • IstvanIN

The Aryan Brotherhood is responsible for 40% of all murders that take place in prison? Wow. Doesn’t sound like a reliable group.

          • benvad

Well it depends? If you got to get rid of someone, they sound like your best bet.

    • benvad

You can learn a lot from them when it comes to group unity. Here in a Japan, they put only Japanese interests first.

Their answer to ethnic minorities is go back to your own country if you’re disenchanted. You Americans (White people) should do likewise, because no one will do it for you.

      • Northerner

Japan’s population has less than 2% minorities. They are one of the most homogenous nations on Earth; obviously they’ll put Japanese interests first. We can’t compare them with the U.S.

        • benvad

That’s very true Northerner, I learned of Jared Taylor’s views while living here. I’ve seen how well run countries & cultures are when they put their interests above the aliens.

The Japanese taught me to appreciate my own culture by how they are concerned about themselves. The lesson learned was “Who will be for me, if I am not for myself”.

    Another Asian-themed thread?

    And I should care, why?

What is this? People named Hernandez, Yee, Lieu, Perez, are deciding the fate of MY state? Since when?
    Oh…wait.

  • evilsandmich

The possible future of America: a nuclear armed, third world, single party dump where the only point of the government is to decide how to portion out the goodies. The only problem is that situation isn’t very stable within a bankrupt, multicultural empire.

  • WhiteGuyInJapan

    Two points to consider:
    1. The three Asian senators originally supported affirmative action but their constituents attacked them and they did an about face.
    2. Southeast Asians still support affirmative action. Go figure!
I see people supporting their own ethnic interests on all sides. Except one.

  • Hispanics are rampant and can be just as anti-white and aggressive.

    Believe me!

  • Alucard_the_last

Good for them! Affirmative action is racism in its purest form. Enough is enough with black privilege.

  • benvad

Mexicans are culling them as we speak. Goes to show you that the only thing a Bantu understands is brutal force & disdain.

  • Geo1metric

” When did European-Americans stop being people?”

    When aliens hi-jacked our countries.
