Former Congressman Mel Reynolds Arrested in Zimbabwe

MacDonald Dzirutwe, Reuters, February 18, 2014

Former congressman Mel Reynolds has been arrested in Zimbabwe, an immigration official said on Tuesday, after state media reported the convicted sex offender had been found with pornography at a local hotel.

Police and immigration officials were investigating Reynolds for living in the southern African country without a valid visa, Francis Mabika, an assistant regional immigration officer, told Reuters.

The state-owned Herald newspaper said the former Illinois congressman had been arrested at a hotel in the capital Harare on Monday, where he had been found in possession of pornographic videos and pictures.

Possession of pornography is a crime in Zimbabwe.

He had also run up $24,500 in unpaid hotel bills, the newspaper said.

Reynolds, a former Rhodes scholar, was a fast-rising star in the U.S. Democratic party when he was forced to resign in 1995 after being convicted of sexual assault, obstruction of justice and solicitation of child pornography.

The former representative made an attempt at his former seat last year, running in a primary race under the slogan “Redemption”.

  • Now he gets to do prison time in Zimbabwe. If I recall correctly, Reynolds was the one who wanted a Catholic schoolgirl, for which he was ridiculed by Rush Limbaugh.

Illinois’ 2nd Congressional district used to only elect white men but since the arrival of the blessings of diversity here are the very first three blacks elected in that district:

Gus Savage: black militant who hates whites and Jews

Mel Reynolds: removed from office for statuatory rape, solicitation of child pornography and securities fraud. Sentence commuted by Bill Clinton.

Jesse Jerkson Jr.: removed from office after he and his wife stole $750,000 in campaign funds.

I lived in the Chicago area back when this guy’s scandal was a big news story. It’s funny to hear his name again after all these years. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that it’s for something as sordid as this.

The most surprising part of this story to me is that Zimbabwe has laws against possessing pornography. Who knew they were so morally upright?

  • MekongDelta69

    Which applies more?
You can take the Reynolds out of Zimbabwe, but you can’t take the Zimbabwe out of Reynolds.

A zebra can’t change its stripes.

    “Weah mah porno at?”

    • One can only wonder why he went there. If I was going to voluntarily exile myself, I’d want a place with a reasonable government and some good fishing.

      • Extropico

He apparently had Chicago money connections working to finance real estate development in Zimbabwe. He greatly admired Mugabe.

“Reynolds was recently involved in a deal to construct a $145 million five-star Hilton Hotel and office complex in Zimbabwe, The Herald reported. He was pictured last year standing alongside government officials in a Herald report about the launch of the hotel construction. A spokeswoman for Hilton, based in McLean, Va., had no immediate comment.

Last June, the South African news outlet the Mail & Guardian Online reported that Reynolds was working with Chicago powerbroker Elzie Higginbottom on potential business pursuits in Zimbabwe.

When Higginbottom led a delegation of Chicago businesspeople to Zimbabwe in November 2011, Reynolds acted as Higginbottom’s spokesperson, the Mail & Guardian reported.”

        From the Chicago Tribune.

          “He greatly admired Mugabe.”

This is an important point. There is no such thing as standards with blacks. All you have to do is fight the right enemies in the whatever white power structure, and they will side with you.

It was only recently I learned how blacks are absolutely ga-ga over Che. All because he, a mass murderer, made some noises against apartheid in back in the 60s. Never mind that he’s on record in one of his books expressing personal contempt for blacks. Have the right enemies, they think you’re okay. No doubt Reynolds is wondering where his help is from Mugabe.

Blacks will vote him into some political office AGAIN. Or maybe he’ll become a pastor of a church.

    • Actually, his campaign against Jesse Jackson Jr. for the Illinois 2nd District saw him absolutely clobbered. Your second guess is likely spot-on, because his father was a pastor.

      • Katherine McChesney

They’re ALL pastors it seems. Even the women.

Too bad he was found out. He might have stayed in Zimbabwe (Rhodesia on my old maps). But now he’ll be kicked out and sent back to the US. Darn, we were so close to being rid of him, too. I am certain that he can get all the young flesh he wants very cheaply in Africa and better there than here where he can go looking for young white girls.

    Zimbabwe enforces its immigration law.

    • Einsatzgrenadier

It’s scary to think that we could actually learn something from sub-Saharan African immigration policy.

  • dd121

Knowing how the media spins stories about misbehaving blacks, he’s still a rising star in the Democrat party.

  • Einsatzgrenadier

Thanks to the ineptitude of black majority rule, a once thriving and economically prosperous 1st world nation has been transformed into a brutal 3rd world kleptocracy. The negro Reynolds traveled to Rhodesia (not Zimbabwe) because he could indulge his sexual appetite by exploiting as many young negresses as he could possibly get his hands on without fear of retribution. Unfortunately, he got caught. Let’s see how long he lasts in a Rhodesian prison before Mugabe and his henchmen get greased by the next cabal of would-be African warlords, I mean dictators.

  • Biff_Maliboo

What was he doing in Zimbabwe anyway?

    • Running up an enormous hotel bill he refused to pay, among other things.

      • . . . $24,500 in unpaid hotel bills . . .

Zimbabwe inflation being what it is . . . he stayed a week?

        • Sloppo

He may have just checked in when they arrested him.

      • Bon, From the Land of Babble

It is axiomatic that American press is NOT going to report anything negative about “beloved” a black democrat.

        The British press, however…

“Mel Reynolds was allegedly in the country illegally since December, making pornographic films in hotel rooms with at least 10 models.

A former Reynolds assistant told the state-controlled newspaper The Herald that the Democratic pol had been paying a model and several other girls to produce his pornos.

‘His travel documents were not up to date and he used to bring beautiful women at different times,’ said the former employee, identified only as Sunny. ‘He employed five of us including a personal assistant and a driver.’

The Herald also reported that Reynolds had made more than 100 dirty movies and shot some 1,000 nude photos of at least 10 women.”

  • Pax Romana

The Democrat Mel Reynolds’ career in Congress is distinguished by being charged and convicted of repeated aggravated criminal sexual abuse, criminal sexual assault, child pornography, obstruction of justice, tax evasion, and fraud. This of course, impressed Democrat President Bill Clinton, who, in one of his last acts as president commuted Reynolds sentence. Of course, Reynolds also played the ‘race card’ for all it was worth.

    • r j p

Mel Reynolds should not be a free American, he should still be in prison.
He, like Bill Clinton, is a sexual predator.

  • Truth Teller

That thing was a Rhodes scholar? Affirmative Action in action!

  • Sick of it

Does anyone actually believe this clown was a real Rhodes Scholar?

    • Bon, From the Land of Babble

He was a RODENT Scholar, same as Bill Clinton and Rachael Madow.

Brings into question those on the selection committee, doesn’t it?

      • Sick of it

Go back even further – Who was Cecil Rhodes?

  • Bon, From the Land of Babble

As usual, I had to go to the British press to get the REAL story:

Disgraced Democratic congressman arrested in Zimbabwe after allegedly making 100 porno films and taking 2,000 naked pictures in hotels

‘They denied me my passport so that I can contact the United States Embassy which is a violation of international laws,’ he said.

‘It’s the way it is,’ Reynolds added, defending himself and suggesting that he was the victim of a scheme to embarrass him.

I expect old Mel to return to the U.S. and run again on the Marion Barry Forgiveness Ticket.

He had also run up $24,500 in unpaid hotel bills.

Don’t worry, Mel, this is Zimbabwe and you can pay with this:

I wonder why this isn’t bigger news in the U.S. I mean, I just can’t think of anything that would prevent the press from keeping this a front page story for weeks.

Nope, I can’t think of a single reason.

This is off the subject, but I watched some of the Olympics last night; and I have to get it out. I was so embarrassed for France. In the women’s figure skating, France’s entry looked like she came straight out of Zimbabwe or the Congo. All she could do was a couple of spins. she was big, black, and ungraceful. She looked absurd. If that’s the best France could do, they should have had no entry at all and spared themselves the humiliation. Sorry, off subject, but I had to vent.
Yes, I heard about Mel Reynolds on the news. How pathetic what is tolerated in the name of multi-culti diversity craziness. Blacks have no place in civilized society. All belong in Africa.
