Southern Poverty Law Center: Wellspring of Manufactured Hate

James Simpson, Capital Research Center, September 25, 2012

Summary: The Southern Poverty Law Center began with an admirable purpose but long ago transformed into a machine for raising money and launching left-wing political attacks. Lately it’s become more of a threat to free speech and civil debate than a defender of the weak or a foe of violent extremism. It has also taken in millions from the Picower Foundation, whose own funds came largely from founder Jeffry Picower’s “investing” in his old friend Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme.

On August 15, 2012, an angry gay rights activist named Floyd Corkins stormed the Family Research Council’s Washington, D.C. headquarters and began shooting. Corkins shot a brave security guard in the arm, but the guard still managed to wrestle him to the ground before he could kill or injure others.

Corkins was carrying 50 bullets and two loaded magazines for his 9-millimeter semi-automatic pistol; 15 Chick-fil-A sandwiches; and the address of another potential target, the Traditional Values Coalition. Before initiating his shooting spree, Corkins reportedly said, “I don’t like your politics.”

Reacting to the shooting, Family Research Council President Tony Perkins stated: “Corkins was given a license to shoot an unarmed man by organizations like the Southern Poverty Law Center that have been reckless in labeling organizations as hate groups because they disagree with them on public policy.”

The Southern Poverty Law Center is a wealthy, well-connected, organized attack machine of the extreme political Left. It shares strategies, goals, and tactics with other similar organizations and colludes with them in campaigns of defamation, disinformation and legal threats to silence and/or criminalize political opponents.

The SPLC has unjustifiably secured itself a position of influence within our government and society. Its very presence threatens our freedoms and First Amendment rights. It abuses our system of justice, while hiding behind a Constitution for which it has little respect.

This article lost me after the first half sentenced, and I stopped reading.

Bingo. Why does every conservative criticism of the Civil Rights racket begin with the false assertion that these anti-white con artists started off nobly but then lost their way?

Morris “The Sleaze” Dees started the $outhern Poverty-Pimp Center with dollar signs in his eyes from day one: it was always “all about the benjamins” to this hustler.

      • anmpr1

         Franklins, or Netanyahus?

  • Notice how stories about that event disappeared just as soon as it was learned that Corkins was a left-wing nutjob.  Vanished, gone–like it never happened.

The SPLC, like the ACLU, is an anti-American and anti-White organization that’s deeply rooted in social-Marxism. Its real purpose is to undermine our Constitution and silence as well as displace Whites.

    • And they operate under the banner of “non-profit”. So I guess those shyster lawyers are working Pro bono.

    • Well, the ACLU is usually lousy, but they have occasional moments of value (for example, when they recently criticized efforts by various local governments to not give licenses to Chick Fil A stores on the basis of their owner’s view on same-sex marriage.)  I wouldn’t call them evil as I would the SPLC, ADL and the Marxist anti-fa groups that work to suppress freedom of speech by demonizing people who don’t hold their views.

The SPLC does provide one useful benefit, however–it divides conservative media into two groups, those that nervously ensure they never say or write anything that will meet with their disapproval (National Review comes immediately to mind) vs. those that happily flip the SPLC the bird every time they get the chance (VDARE, Amren, TakiMag, AlternativeRight, etc.)  Needless to say I think conservatives should keep their financial contributions to the latter category.

Morris Dees, founder of the so-called “SPLC,” made MILLIONS cheating and stealing from the little guy. There is a small family owned restaurant in our Alabama town that once allowed Dees to write a check to pay his tab. The check bounced several times and finally could no longer be redeposited. For many years the check was on display besides the cash register in this little restaurant. DEES NEVER MADE IT GOOD.

At the going interest rate businesses charge for past due accounts, Dees now owes over $500. But he will never pay. Way to go Morris Dees, you beat a small hard working family out of the cost of breakfast for yourself and a companion.

      It’s in the Talmud . . . a jew may deceive a gentile with impunity and without penalty . . .

      • Anan7

Where, specifically?  This sounds like the Jewish analogue of the Taqiyya.

I am not sure this is true as it seems to contradict the Mosaic law of not bearing false witness.

Here are some talmudic quotes . . .
The Talmud specifically defines all who are not Jews as non-human animals, and specifically dehumanises gentiles as not being descendants of Adam. We will now list some of the Talmud passages which relate to this topic:
“The Jews are called human beings, but the non-Jews are not humans. They are beasts.”Talmud: Baba mezia, 114b
“The Akum (non-Jew) is like a dog. Yes, the scripture teaches to honour the the dog more than the non-Jew.”Ereget Raschi Erod. 22 30
“Even though God created the non-Jew they are still animals in human form. It is not becoming for a Jew to be served by an animal. Therefore he will be served by animals in human form.”Midrasch Talpioth, p. 255, Warsaw 1855
          “A pregnant non-Jew is no better than a pregnant animal.”Coschen hamischpat 405
“The souls of non-Jews come from impure sprits and are called pigs.”Jalkut Rubeni gadol 12b
“Although the non-Jew has the same body structure as the Jew, they compare with the Jew like a monkey to a human.”Schene luchoth haberith, p. 250 b
“If you eat with a Gentile, it is the same as eating with a dog.”Tosapoth, Jebamoth 94b
“If a Jew has a non-Jewish servant or maid who dies, one should not express sympathy to the Jew. You should tell the Jew: “God will replace ‘your loss’, just as if one of his oxen or asses had died”.”Jore dea 377, 1
“Sexual intercourse between Gentiles is like intercourse between animals.”Talmud Sanhedrin 74b
“It is permitted to take the body and the life of a Gentile.”Sepher ikkarim III c 25
“It is the law to kill anyone who denies the Torah. The Christians belong to the denying ones of the Torah.”Coschen hamischpat 425 Hagah 425. 5
“A heretic Gentile you may kill outright with your own hands.”Talmud, Abodah Zara, 4b
“Every Jew, who spills the blood of the godless (non-Jews), is doing the same as making a sacrifice to God.”Talmud: Bammidber raba c 21 & Jalkut 772

  • I don’t care what anyone says, 7/8th of a bagel is still a bagel.

  • The SPLC  is made much worse by the insane MSM propaganda machine that gives it an air of relevance. Like the ACLU, it is a bunch of money-grubbing lawyers bent on the tactic of “Divide and Conquer” and continually creating more work for itself by filing untold lawsuits. And who do they want to conquer? I’d say White, heterosexual, Christian, males.

I suppose it will ever be so, that the Southern Poverty Law Center will be the go-to authority for American journalists as to which groups and individuals deserve banishment from public discourse, termination of employment and financial ruin.

But at least we can be grateful that the SPLC’s pursuits have inspired notable assessments. A few examples to enlighten and entertain:

    1) Carol Swain, Professor of Law and Political Science, Vanderbilt University and Director of the Vanderbilt Public Policy Program:

“….what is most shocking is that the SPLC has spent far more resources hounding conservative organizations, such as the Center for Immigration Studies, and prominent citizens like CNN’s award-winning anchor Lou Dobbs, than it has protecting the civil rights of American voters . . .  Rather than monitoring hate groups, the Southern Poverty Law Center has become one.”
(“Mission Creep and the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Misguided Focus, “ Huffington Post, August 10, 2009)

    2) Alexander Cockburn, columnist for The Nation, Editor of CounterPunch, a man of impeccable leftwing credentials:

“The Southern Poverty Law Center: We published a piece about them years ago in CounterPunch saying . . . it’s scare-mongering for elderly people . . . elderly Jewish people across America, saying that if you don’t send us ten bucks or twenty bucks the brown shirts will be marching down your main street tomorrow. SEND CHECK NOW . . . It’s a racket, a lot of it.”

    3) Mark Krikorian, executive director, Center for Immigration Studies, Washington, D. C:

“Across the West we see efforts to restrict free expression of political ideas related to immigration . . . The most recent salvo on this side of the ocean is a report released last week by the Southern Poverty Law Center tarring the three leading groups working to limit immigration—including my own Center for Immigration Studies—as part of a racist conspiracy, supposedly orchestrated by a retired eye doctor in Michigan named John Tanton. The fact that they went after mainstream groups rather than fringe ones shows that the goal is not elevating the tone of public discourse but shutting it down altogether. Perhaps a more honest title for the report would have been ‘The Protocols of the Elders of Restrictionism.’”*

“…a bunch of slick, parasitic hucksters who live high on the hog by raising money on behalf of needy people who never see a dime of it.”

And, saving the best for last:

    6) Laird Wilcox is an expert on fringe groups of both left and right. He is founder of the Wilcox Collection of Contemporary Political Movements at the University of Kansas’s Kenneth Spencer Research Library. Below is Wilcox’s primer on the SPLC:

“When you get right down to it, all the SPLC does is call people names. It’s specialized a highly developed form of defamation however — a way of harming and isolating people by denying their humanity and trying to convert them into something that deserves to be hated and eliminated . . . They use their enormous resources to practice it on a mass scale . . . Anyone attacked by the SPLC is basically up against a contest of resources, from the ability to engage legal counsel, the access to fairness in media treatment, to the ability to survive the financial destruction of a reputation or a career. What they do is a kind of bullying and stalking . . . Their victims are usually ordinary people expressing their values, opinions, and beliefs and they are up against a very talented and articulate defamation machine.”

“The SPLC has managed to engage police and government agencies to assist them, interfacing informational resources about personal circumstances vulnerability, and opportunities for prosecution. The have even counseled the military in stigmatization and defamation procedures …”

“Americans really need to ask themselves if they are willing to tolerate this kind of operation in a free society . . . remember that sooner or later they might start looking at you or someone you love . . .” (“An Expert on Fringe Politcal Movements Reflects on the SPLC’s Political Agenda,” The Social Contract, Spring, 2010, pp188-189)

And from Wilcox’s “The Practice of Ritual Defamation,” in the same issue of The Social Contract:

“It (ritual defamation) is not used to persuade, but to punish . . . its thrust is primarily emotional. Ritual defamation is used to hurt, to intimidate, to destroy, and to persecute, and to avoid the dialogue, debate, and discussion upon which a free society depends. On those grounds it must be opposed no matter who tries to justify its use.” (p191)

    • They’re not just the ‘go to’ organizations for stories, in many cases they write the stories and give them to the MSM who simply ‘copy and paste’ a story together.

Notice at the end of some articles, it gives a link to the SPLC or the ADL.

Every news outlet has a contact person with the SPLC and the ADL

      • You are correct.

I have even read online copy and paste ‘news’ stories (usually some breaking news) where the news organization was in such a hurry to post the story, they forgot to edit out the SPLCs masthead and other telling items that showed who originally wrote it.

Sadly this was a few years ago before I knew how to take screen-shots, but I would not be surprised if somewhere out there some diligent White Nationalist or White Advocate has taken such ‘screenies’ before.

        • The SPLC has a distinct writing style that gives itself away if you pay close enough attention.  That’s how I knew the infamous MIAC report of 2009 was written in a tacky looking building in Montgomery, Alabama that will become an Apple Store after the SPLC is sued out of existence by a future right wing President and his or her Attorney General.  SPLC denied at first that they wrote it, then they essentially admitted it.

  • Is it just me or is Mark Potok one of the creepiest looking bipeds on the planet?

Throw Heidi Beirich into the mix and that has to be one of the ugliest organizations in America. Ugly inside, ugly outside.

  • JohnEngelman

To the best of my knowledge the American Communist Party does nothing to interfere with the free speech rights of others.
I have known members of the American Communist Party. I have always liked them.

  • JohnEngelman

I have difficulty understanding why the Southern Poverty Law Center continues to have any clout. It does nothing to help poor people with legal problems in the South, or anywhere else.

  • At every opportunity, we should be questioning why the SPLC and the ADL are used as consultants for law enforcement agencies.

  • I know, I was being sarcastic. We need a sarcasm icon.

  • MerlinV

I personally am not interested in any blog unless the SPLC has them listed as a hate group. Kind of a badge of honor thing.

    • Yes the SPLC has started listing just plain old Blogs as ‘hate groups’.

It is really laughable how low the bar has been set to be labeled a hater in 2012.

  • Kungfoochimp

I’d ask you to define “white”.

    • Gary Jenkins

      Anyone non-Jewish of European ancestry

  • sammy

And isn’t it interesting that Lenin came from nobility and used  that fact when it suited him.

  • sammy

New book out called “Former People” about the destruction of the Russian nobility by the commies.

  • Tony Soprano

The SPLC is also about open markets and cheap labor. We have quite a bit of diversity where I work. Otherwise I think I would get paid more. Do not let these lefty organizations fool you it is all about capitalism. We all know we need Walmarts in tibet and KFC in Nepal. The problem is the destruction of ancient cultures including our own.

  • Michael C. Scott

The $PLC is a non-profit 41(c) organization and these by law are supposed to remain apolitical.

In addition, they bank their money offshore so it can not easily be seized.  I would not be at all suprised if most – or all – of the principals have obtained dual-nationality in a nation or nations that do not have extradition treaties with the US, should they ever be indicted on federal racketeering charges.

    • Franklin_Ryckaert

Yes, and which nation they have dual citizenship of would THAT be?

      • anarchyst

        That’s easy . . . Israel

        • My guess is Cayman Islands, where their money is parked.

  • Franklin_Ryckaert

Hmm, if you go to Who controls the SPLC? you will find out  WHICH country is most likely.

  • Southern Poverty Law Center a misnomer?  I’ve heard it referred to as the Northern Over-Endowed Lie Center in some circles.

  • If they could get a rabbi, they could probably incorporate as a shul.
