Player Banned for Racial Slur

A third-division player has been banned for five matches for a racial slur, while judicial authorities have opened a criminal investigation for suspected “insult with xenophobic motives.”

Torsten Ziegner, of Carl-Zeiss Jena, was sent off late in the match against Eintracht Braunschweig after a racial slur directed at Eintracht’s Kingsley Onuegbu, who is Nigerian.

Police in Braunschweig said they had opened an investigation after seeing reports about the incident in the media.
